15.01.2022 I’m so excited to share this! It started with an idea! To create this image from start to finish took almost 6 hours but man! It was worth it!! My favourite image from Alchemy! The inspiration for this idea came from wanting to create a cut & colour completely from nothing! So I hired a special FX makeup artist Kristie from Kreature FX & Makeup who amazingly applied a prosthetic bald cap to my beautiful model. ... I had precoloured all of my hair wefts, customising the tones I wanted to see using Organic Colour Systems Australia & New Zealand No Limits. Then using eyelash glue and hairspray, the wefts were applied to the bald head using a crisscross pattern. From there, one by one, the wefts were cut to create a haircut! I really wanted an exaggerated shape and that each individual coloured weft was its own stand out piece. This was so much fun to conceptualise! The day to create this collection was hectic, but I loved it so much! To be able to photograph it myself to be able to capture what was in my minds eye was amazing. But I couldn’t have done it without my team! Thankyou to my model Allie for being so patient and amazing! Thankyou to my team, Jonathon Hand Ceionie-Lea without you guys, this collection wouldn’t have happened! Teamwork makes the dream work always! 05.01.2022 Alchemy by Nichola Alchemy : Noun : any seemingly magical process of transforming or combining elements into something new. : a process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary. Alchemy is a perfectly crafted collection created by Nichola Hand. With Alchemy Nichola strived to really think outside the box with how she could blend together her love of Art with hair! She really worked ... hard at fusing her different strengths to push the envelope on creating wearable art! This collection is more than cut and colour work! Nichola says I really wanted to exceed my full potential in this collection, which resides in my Visual Brain, it incorporates my creative approach, vision and the execution of Alchemy and showcase my methodology in cutting and styling. The inspiration for my collection stems from many aspects, I’m inspired by my industry everyday, as well as fashion, photography, art, architecture, nature, music... anything visual that captures my visual brain inspires me. Firstly the colour palette, my approach with colour - in everything i do, comes from a place of it has to serve a purpose within the haircut! So with Alchemy, the haircuts and construction of shapes were the primary focus, followed by hue selection and placement of that colour to bring out the best parts of the shapes i had created I also wanted more of an editorial feel to this colour collection to show that colour can be a wearable form of art. From using hair colour as spray paint, to creating global application, punchy tones to crafting an entire haircut with colour onto a bald head, as well as creating a cloud, from a bag full of hair i had cut off in the salon.
