17.01.2022 SUSHI MAKING! Today Miss Yukiko and our new friend Miss Yumi came in to teach us all about Japan and helped us to make sushi. The children got the chance to fold and construct paper sushi hats and then take turns to help make cucumber sushi rolls and a special flower sushi roll were beetroot juice was added to the rice to make it pink. The children enjoyed being able to make their own sushi but their favourite part was eating them all up. Yum, Yum!!

17.01.2022 SHAPE EXPLORATION The children of Puddleducks have been exploring shapes, and how they can be found in all things. We have spent time looking around our lovely centre identifying the different shapes we can see, both inside and outside.... The children have also used their interest in shapes to extend on their fine motor development through tracing shapes and cutting them out with scissors. Using the wooden shape blocks the children also created different animals, following the patterns provided or creatively coming up with their own designs and patterns.

17.01.2022 SPOOKY PLAY! Halloween has been a continuing interest for the children at Puddleducks. We have decorated our cubby house to be a haunted spooky house, this has seen some fantastic dramatic play occurring. The children have also been making some Halloween crafts using their hand prints to create bats, spiders and ghosts. Reusing our tree from our spring time craft we were able to make it into a spooky tree for our bats and spiders to hang from.

15.01.2022 Mayor Gail enjoyed her visit as much as we did at Puddleducks. Thank you for visiting!

14.01.2022 EXPLORING ST LEONARDS Today the children at Puddleducks went on an excursion to explore our local community and buy a special Easter treat of hot cross buns from the supermarket. Our adventure started with walking up the street towards the train station, there was lots to see and the children enjoyed saying hello to the different people they passed and looking at the different buildings and cars. There was the opportunity to look over the train platform and watch the trains c...ome and go before enjoying our hot cross buns in front of the water fountain and then chase away the birds who had come to nibble at the crumbs. Engaging the children in the local community allows for them to enhance their sense of belonging, discover new interests and transfer their learning from our centre environment to the everyday environments.

14.01.2022 This week is recycling week, this week the children have helped to water the garden. Our educators have helped the children to check our rain water buckets to see if they could be used on the garden. The children learnt that we can reuse rain water to help our plants grow. At group time their have been discussions about what is recycling. "When you take one thing and when your finished use it for something else." "If you put something somewhere and someone wants to use it ag...ain." What can be put in a recycling bin, and where does it go? "Bottles." "Cardboard boxes." "Paper." "recycling goes to the recycling factory to be made into other things." We also discussed another type of recycling we do at Puddleducks, with our food scraps. The children knew that our bunnies get our fruit and veggie scraps but for some of the children did not know about the scraps that go into our worm farm. As a group we looked at the worn farm and could see the worms moving around, there was already some food scraps and we will check back everyday this week to see how the worms recycle these.

11.01.2022 FUN IN THE SUN! The children of Puddleducks have been showing great respect for the environment and are all eager to help out in our laneway garden. This week has been all about watering our plants, the children all took turns to hold the hose and made sure all our vegetables and plants got a good drink of water.

10.01.2022 COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS Mayor Gail arrived for her special visit today, the children were all so excited and had been talking about her arrival all morning. The children were very eager to show her lots of different things at Puddleducks, including our tomato's which have been growing and ripening over the past few days. Mayor Gail showed the children how she wore a long medal and a chain that had all the different names of the people who had been the mayor before Mayor Gail. ... The children then asked Mayor Gail if she would like to see the bee hive and lane way garden. Mayor Gail told the children how the bee hive had been given to us from another council and she took some pictures so she could share how well it was going and how happy the bees were. Mayor Gail stayed at Puddleducks and watched everyone play and have fun for almost a whole hour, when it was time to go we gave Mayor Gail the flowers and bee that we had made for her and everyone got to give her a high five and said thank you for visiting.

09.01.2022 CONNECTING WITH TECHNOLOGY One of our educators Miss Crystal is visiting her family in China, the children have been questioning where Miss Crystal is and what she is doing. To share her holiday with us Miss Crystal emailed photo's of her family in China and the different places she has visited. There was a lot of excitement as everyone gathered around the laptop to see the photo's.... Being able to access and use different technologies allows for the children to connect with their world, resource their own learning and investigate ideas. The children were also able to gain knowledge of the Chinese culture as they identified similarities and differences.

07.01.2022 A good reminder on this hot and sunny day

07.01.2022 WELCOME BACK PUDDLEDUCKS! We hope everyone has had a great break, we are very excited for all the amazing things we have planned for this year. One exciting discovery we made this morning was finding two cocoons on our tomato plants. We will be watching them very closely and can't wait to see if a butterfly appears.... To continue this interest and discovery; together with their educator the children read the very hungry caterpillar story.
