24.01.2022 LOCKIE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT IN HIS JOURNEY TOWARDS WEIGHT LOSS! ***no negative comments please 20 month old Lockie arrived into the care of our NSW/ACT team just over a week ago and when we saw him for the first time we could not believe our eyes! Poor Lockie weighed in just over 14kgs. ... Although Lockie had come from a loving family and we are sure they never meant for him to reach his current size, Lockie is an example of what a pug should NOT be or any other dog for that matter. Lockie was scheduled to have his veterinary work undertaken the day his was dropped off, but due to his size our vets could not perform any surgery on him and he will now need to wait until he is under 11kgs. So, it is straight off to boot camp! Lockie will be on a diet that measures a 1/4 cup morning and a 1/4 cup night till he he weighs less than 11kgs. You may say this sounds cruel, but we are saving his life! Lockie will be having regular check-in’s and we will keep you updated on his progress This is a reminder for all pug families to check their pug’s size and if they need to lose some weight then you’ll need to be strict and measure their portions. To help you assess if your pug is overweight, we have included the well-publicised ‘Body Score Condition’ (BSC) guide developed by the University of Cambridge. The ideal BSC is between 4-6, ideally 4-5, anything more than this means your Pug is in an unhealthy weight range, increasing the risk of medical issues and shortening their lives In the meantime, please do not hesitate to PM us if you have any questions regarding your own pug's weight or need any weight loss tips!!! *** Please note the information is published as a guideline only and you should consult with your veterinarian if you have any concerns.
24.01.2022 NSW/ACT: Gorgeous Honey is on the lookout for her loving home Our NSW/ACT team is on the lookout for a deserving home for our deserving 3 year old little girl - Honey! Honey hasn't had the best start to life, having lost her right leg as a puppy, being bred and having to live in a back of car! Yet with all this adversity, she is an absolute delight and is ready to start her new chapter in her new loving home.... About Honey (please read carefully): AGE: 3 years old BREED: Pug LOCATION: Sydney KIDS: Suited to kids CATS: Suited ONGOING TREATMENT: To assist with Honey's joint care, she will require a daily Glyde chew. Honey's new family will also need to be dedicated to her weight to ensure it is maintained and does not impact on her breathing. IDEAL HOME: Honey is a beautiful, sweet natured, loving pint sized little girl. As Honey only has three legs it’s important the right home is found to accommodate her needs. We believe she would be best suited to a family with someone who is at home regularly or able to take her out and about with them. She will also require another calm furry companion, as Honey loves being around other dogs. Honey is an indoor girl and this arrangement will need to continue. She loves following her human family around the house and loves pats and cuddles. It would be preferable to re-home Honey to a home with minimal stairs and one that has easy access to the garden for her to toilet. Honey is a social butterfly and loves going on walks and being out and about. She will require her family to pick her up and carry her frequently throughout walks to support her walking as she is easily puffed. Most of all all, Honey loves cuddling up with her humans through the night and is equally happy to snuggle up with her foster brother on a comfy bed. Honey has plenty of love to give and we know that there’s loving family that would be perfect for her. If you believe this could be your family, we would love to hear from you. You can submit an application via the link below, providing as much information as you can: https://www.pugpatrolrescueaustralia.com.au/pug-adoption-a/ If you have previously applied and you believe you're a suitable family, please do not hesitate to send a PM letting us know. And remember, if you are not able to adopt, please SHARE this post as Honey needs to find her forever home! ***Please note: Honey is not available for interstate adoption and only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. 23.01.2022 Shelly has found her forever loving home in NSW 11 year old Shelly has gone on to find her forever loving home with her new pug mum Tracie! Whilst Shelly was in foster care the decision was made to re-home her as an only pet. Although Shelly was a wonderful pug to her foster carers, she wasn't all that nice to her foster siblings.... During her stay in our care, Shelly underwent a thorough medical examination where she was diagnosed with arthritis. Not only does she require regular Synovan injections and a daily Glyde chew to help with her mobility, she also requires a daily dose of pain relief for the rest of her life - meaning she needed someone that would be dedicated to providing her with the required medication. Tracie submitted an application for another rescue as she had recently lost her little Frenchie Huey and was heart broken. When we reviewed her application on file, we knew Shelly would help mend her heart. Shelly now has her own pug mum and doesn’t need to share any attention and now is happily enjoying the pug life. Thank you Tracie for loving Shelly and for giving her a warm and comfortable home. To Jennifer and Stephen Shelly’s foster carers, we are beyond grateful that you allowed Shelly to recover from her surgery in your wonderful home, that you loved and looked at her her and managed to keep her from too many arguments with her foster fur siblings. To Dr Katelyn and Dr Rennie and the team at Caring Country Vets - Thirlmere and Tahmoor, thank you for all the wonderful work that you do for our rescues. To our community and supporters, TOGETHER we have enabled Shelly to live the pug life she deserves! Our mission accomplished!
20.01.2022 Proposed Puppy Farm in SA Update We have a very positive relationship with RSPCA South Australia and we're SO happy they have been so proactive in their public response to the proposed puppy farm in Two Wells, South Australia. Please listen to the attached interview with the CEO Paul Stevenson. It is VERY encouraging to see such an immediate response from the organisation with their submission of opposition to the proposed development, and to hear the importance they are... placing on the need for drastic legislation improvements Its also amazing to hear that the Adelaide Plains Council were inundated with YOUR emails of concern (not that we didn't already know ). Mass public outcry is what brings about change and we are so grateful to every single one of you who took the time to email the council. We look forward to our continued positive working relationship with the RSPCA in South Australia, and highly commend them for their high standards regarding animal welfare Cavalier Rescue SA Coordinator Megan spent a day in the shelters recently and was very impressed at the level of genuine commitment from each and every one of the staff and volunteers in providing such great care to the animals in the shelter. Keep an eye out on our page for further updates regarding this important issue and other updates about our rescue work that still takes priority. The pugs need us more than ever, and we need your continued support https://www.abc.net.au//rspca-calls-for-change-t/12874102

18.01.2022 A reminder..........please take care of your companions!
17.01.2022 Attention SA. Meet Bentley BENTLEY IS A VERY SPECIAL PUG! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST...It is very important that Bentley goes to the right home for him.... Bentley has recently turned 5 years old. He is desexed, microchipped and up to date with all his vaccinations. Bentley came to PPRA with an undiagnosed illness. He had a series of tests and a CT scan, but the results did not produce a diagnosis. His specialist suggested that he have a series of blood tests to rule out Addison’s disease. We went ahead and after an anxious wait our wonderful vet Sam rang and confirmed that Bentley does have Addison’s disease. So, what is Addison’s disease? Well its very difficult to diagnose! Dogs, cats, and humans as well as other species have a pair of small glands located next to each kidney. They are called the adrenal glands and produce two substances, hormones, that are released into the bloodstream to support healthy cell function. Addison’s disease occurs when the body contains too little of these substances. Bentley is only deficient in one of these substances, glucocorticoid, and so he has ATYPICAL Addison’s disease. He may go on to be deficient in both substances in the future, so he will need to have blood tests, for the first year every 3 months and second year onwards every 3-6 months. Bentley is on a steroid supplementation program and this medication must continue for the rest of his life. There may be times during Bentley’s life that this medication will need to be increased if he is showing signs of illness. Dogs that a correctly diagnosed and properly treated live healthy and happy lives. Bentley has shown signs of anxiety and so we have also included a medication plan to assist him through this period of his life. Stress is not good for him! SO... we are looking for a very special family for this very special pug! Bentley loves life, he loves to play with his toys, chase a ball and play with his foster siblings. His foster family have told us that he is 5 going on puppy! At this point there are no signs of lethargy, tiredness, or any illness. He is sleeping well, eating and socialising with other dogs and humans as much as he can. Bentley would love to be re homed with another desexed dog. He needs his human to be home A LOT, almost all the time. He needs exercise and he loves to play. He will follow you wherever you go and gives unconditional love We do not recommend small children under 12 years. Our usual adoption fees will not apply for Bentley’s adoption and this will be discussed with the successful applicant. If you believe you can support Bentley, with medication and ongoing tests and help him to have a happy life please go to our website and fill in an application to adopt him. Please be patient with us, our team is wholly run by volunteers that do work and have families. Bentley is only available for adoption in South Australia. www.pugpatrolrescueaustralia.com.au

02.01.2022 HAPPY ADOPTION: NSW/ACT - Pirate Polly has found her forever loving home ! Linda, David and pug boy Charlie have welcomed their new rescue Polly into their beautiful home and life. Polly is totally in love with the beach and visits it almost daily. Both Charlie and Polly adore each other and have many snuggles and cuddles in bed together. ... Linda and David can’t believe how quickly they fell in love with Polly and have thanked us for their new little girl. We can’t thank you both and Charlie enough for giving Polly her wonderful new life and for allowing her almost daily beach visits. While Polly loves the beach it has been discovered that in fact she doesn’t like the rain, go figure. To Alice and family, you fostered Polly for a while till she got back on her feet. You nursed her through two surgeries and while it broke your heart to see her go to her new family, you were so happy she went to the perfect family. Thank you for all your love and care of Polly. Polly’s vet bills amounted to just over $1,800, and through your ongoing support we were able to pay them off. TOGETHER we have enabled Polly to live a pain free life and a pug life that she deserves. From all the volunteers and our rescues, we send you all pug hugs.

02.01.2022 Hi SA.. Meet Gary. Gary is a Pug x Beagle. He is 10 years old but you wouldn’t know it! What an absolute delight. Full of personality and full on energy. Gary came to us after he was surrendered to the RSPCA because he needed extensive dental care and his old owners couldn’t afford to see to his vet needs any longer.... His vet work is now complete and Gary is very keen to meet his forever family. His foster Mum sent me this about Gary! Despite finding himself needing a new forever home Gary is a happy, happy, happy guy. His tail does full propellors to demonstrate this, particularly when it is breakfast, dinner, welcoming you home or he is happy to see that you are awake! He also does a little happy dance that will always bring a smile to your face. Please don't let this gorgeous boy's age of ten fool you, he has the energy and enthusiasm of a three-year-old. Gary has very good house manners. He knows how to sit and being fully toilet trained he never has accidents inside. He is very much an indoors boy who loves taking himself into the yard on occasion to explore or sit in the sun. Through no fault of his own Gary was never walked in his first ten years of life. For this reason, he thinks it is the BEST thing ever, but he does require a strong handler. He adores everyone he meets however his assertive approach can be uncomfortable for some other dogs and his socialisation needs continued work. Gary discovered the ocean with his foster carers and boy does he love a swim. Early mornings are best before all those other distractions become overwhelming. Gary has been fostered with a large female dog and he is extremely respectful of her space. He has a super healthy appetite. Food, people, and evening cuddles on the couch are three of his favourite things in life. He is great with kids and visitors to the home; his excitement however means that he may bark quite loudly upon their arrival. Gary is best suited to a house with a well fenced backyard without too many distracting bikes and people rushing past. He is such a sweet dog with so much love to give and so much enthusiasm for life. If you think you are the right family for Gary please go to our website and fill in the application form to adopt Gary!.# https://www.pugpatrolrescueaustralia.com.au/pug-adoption-a/
