10.01.2022 Watch wildlife photographer & one of my guests David Whelan Photography get up close & personal with some young elephants. This great encounter was captured in ...Hwange National Park. Many of Hwange’s waterholes have viewing hides & platforms. We were at such a hide on a private concession watching the elephants enjoy a late morning wallow & drink. This young elephant noticed us very late & made a quick u-turn. He was a little startled but no harm was done. We were kept safe as we were sitting right against the viewing platform behind, and the logs out front keep elephants from coming any closer. David did exactly what he was meant to. Remain where he was, no excessive movement, allowing the elephants to move off. The head-held-high posture from the elephants is both meant to intimidate, and also to see better. They have poor eye sight but by raising their head they gain a better view of their surroundings. I love these wild encounters & to have guests see sights like this will change their lives forever! Remember, use responsible, experienced guides & operators. Safety first! African Bush Camps Wild Eye
