22.01.2022 About 70 per cent of Australian strawberries are being grown on runners that have been fumigated with an environmentally damaging pesticide that has been banne...d around the world. Methyl bromide is an odourless and colourless gas which was banned under the United Nations Montreal Protocol in 1989 because it depletes the ozone layer. Australia agreed to phase it out by 2005 but a decade later, nine strawberry runner growers at Toolangi, in Victorias Yarra Valley, are still using nearly 30 tonnes a year. Action: please support the organic/spray free industry and stop these dangerous chemicals from being in our bodies and covering our lands. They talk about not being economical, but if we dont look after our soil and our bodies, the price WILL be paid later. Look at the current health statistics as theyre already telling us this story. The more demand for this, the more the prices will drop too. Win win.

22.01.2022 Vitamin D has many important functions in our body. Getting a sufficient amount of vitamin D is crucial for: * Prevents bone fractures vitamin D helps our body to absorb calcium. * Reduces the risk of cancer, especially colon cancer, prostate cancer, and breast cancer * Protects against heart disease, including high blood pressure and heart failure. It increases levels of nitric oxide (NO) in our bodies - linked to a dilation of blood vessels, less risk of strokes and heart ...attacks. * Improves your mood- and it increases serotonin levels. Serotonin is the feel good hormone. It assists with depression and encourages melatonin production which helps us to have a deeper sleep. * Vitamin D has also been shown to reduce gut inflammation and gut bacterial composition is known to play a role in asthma as well. Vitamin D, acts like a hormone, and it has anti-inflammatory properties which help with reducing inflammation in the airways. Here is a list of just some of the foods that contain vitamin D: * Salmon * Mushrooms * Sardines * Almond milk * Egg yolk * Butter It can be hard to get enough vitamin D each day through sun exposure and food alone, so taking a vitamin D supplement can help. If you deficient in Vit D or need to know more PM on [email protected] See more

15.01.2022 The Federal governments legislation that removed private health rebates for naturopathy is based on flawed research and should be repealed. Toowoomba naturopat...h David Howell discovered an anomaly that has led to a 40% reduction in his business since the loss of the rebate in April this year. Other practitioners are also reporting a slow down in patient numbers. The NHMRC review into natural therapies (see image below, page 103, paragraph 2, sentence 2): SRs (systemic reviews) of components of naturopathy, for example, massage therapy, acupuncture, individual herbal agents or natural products, were not included. This means that any clinical studies or scientific reviews on any herbal product, vitamin, mineral or other supplement were deliberately excluded, and this is 99% of how naturopaths treat patients. It led the Government to conclude that there was not enough scientific evidence to prove that naturopathy works. The term for this is spoliation of evidence, which is grounds for the reviews conclusion to be invalid. I encourage you to talk to your patients, your local MPs and sign the petition for the rebate to reinstated. Michael O. https://www.change.org/p/lnp-liberal-national-party-austral

08.01.2022 Do you know whats really in your fish oil? Weve been reading this research article on the presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in tested samples ...of commercial fish oil supplements. EDCs mimic human hormones which can interfere with the endocrine system. As these environmental contaminants make their way into the food chain, including marine ecosystems, they can subsequently affect patient health, producing adverse effects in their bodies. Thats why its imperative that fish oils are rigorously third-party tested, to ensure the highest level of purity in the product youre prescribing.

Our busy schedules, financial worries and running our kids from place to place. All this can lead to sleeping problems and insomnia. So lets talk about insomnia.... There are many causes of insomnia, and here are they are: Most common cause is stress, could be stress at work or in your personal life. Anxiety and worrying, and worrying about not getting enough sleep can make things worse. Chronic pain. Depression. Some medication e.g. asthma or blood pressure medication, can cause insomnia. Also stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol or smoking. Daytime habits, sleep routine. Sometimes there is no clear cause for insomnia, in which case it is called primary insomnia. Once you figure out the root cause, you can tailor treatment accordingly.
