It's their way of producing more hives when the weather and the food supplies are all favorable. ... If you see a swarm, don't be scared, it's not the world ending it's a new beginning! The hive has raised a new queen bee. The old queen leaves the hive and takes 2/3 of the population. When you see a swarm those bees are looking for a new home. PLEASE NOTIFY A BEEKEEPER. There are heaps of us around. Honey bees are not native to Australia, if left to find their own new place they're likely to take over a nesting hollow, possum box or move into someones eaves, walls or chimney . A beekeeper will rehome a swarm and then manage it into to the future for pest and disease management and to reduce further swarming. See more
