21.01.2022 The original Israel Defense Forces Krav Maga comprised of about 215 techniques and some drills taught over 21 hour lessons and repeated for Instrcutror evaluation purpouses over three weeks. Here is the complete 21 hours live (in Youtube Playlist): You learn Situational Awareness, Pressure Points, Reaction time and Impact and Push and Pull Techniques and then when you put all the techniques together distill them into principles and use them in sparring. You have to make sure... you are not repeating prior errors because you add more complexity you might forget small details from before. So it is a process of eliminating bad habits and gaining good ones. If you watch these videos you will see the process. If you can command the process you can defend yourself and teach others. You have yourself and another potential opponent once you get close, one of you will control the other's pressure points first You have to make sure you dissect the process and put it together and make sure each part is very efficient from the decision making to the movement to prioritization and complete view so its going to be you that prevail. This is what the training is all about. https://www.youtube.com/playlist

Then he demonstrated Inside defense vs. Kick to the dead side with groin kick counter. They used to teach these in Civilian Krav Maga as well. However assuming a proficient opponent moved to punches after the kicks, or could fake the kick and move faster into punches, countering with hands is prioritized for these type of blo...Continue reading

10.01.2022 This photo which is inverted for better view of two angles shows two problems to me! First, the boxing drill of executing inside defense vs. Cross Punch is not... realistic. This form is only good against Southpow Drop Punch or a Jab. Over the years boxers practiced many drills and many of them were unrealistic and never worked in a bout! The tactical error is to assume that someone would skip the Jab or Drop Punch and you will be able to block his cross if you train hard. Realistically, the second someone is lunging with the Jab or Drop Punch you have to start you block before he reaches the hotzone. If you are letting him stand in the hotzone close enough where if he lead you have no time to command your hand to block him and to execute the block while you cannot know when his brain commanded his arm to commence the attack, you will alwasy be a step behind and he will be a step ahead. Therefore you must block the arm that is closer to you when he moves in and coutner attack and not wait for the cross to come. If he skips the Cross, you would block the air and counter attack. The second error I see, is that the thought that if you catch him you would prevent him from being able to leverage other attacks. Well waiting for the cross endangers you to take the Jab get distracted and then take the full Cross! But lets say if he is doing as you say and throwing the Cross first, and retracting, his retracting elbow might block your rib punch. The other tactical point is that straight punches have greater range than hooks and uppercuts, and if you move closer without immediately hitting him but grabbing him first he might be able to retract the Cross and come up with a left hook, or move on to some sort of grappling maneuver... 06.01.2022 As for H2H Combat, with my unique experience, I can tell you that with most Martial Arts and Civilian Krav Maga alike and the varieties of H2H out there, you ne...ed to first pause and examine what you are going to be trained in. There are endless sales of techniques, and fitness training drills that don't conform to the human efficiency and reaction time limits and thus ill designed training programs are vast. I can suggest doing some viewing on your own and you can even find a training partner and train together, and perhaps some heavy duty reading as well. The realistic H2H possible part does not take more than a few splits seconds and therefore any mistake in what you are attempting to fit in that time frame can cost with life. 06.01.2022 In this last photo you can see what I call Inefficient Bottom-Up Knife Stab. I teach if the knife is in the front hand you dont have time to move and you should wait and ready for a thumb out flip like a straight stab defense. Although, the hold it bottom up which shortens the stab's range by about the length of the knife, it is faster than a classic bottom up where the attacker reaches with the opposite leg forward and then stabing with his cross hand. In this case the at...tacker advances by lunging forward instead of cross walking holding his knife in the front hand. This does not leave you time to evade the stab with your body and stop the pendulum arm motion before it reaches your body. When I see a single photo like this I ask myself. Is it a random execution of a technique without paying attention to such important detail? Is it earlier development of Krav Maga principles? Did the attacker happened to run reaching the defender with his cross hand stab first and then let his cross foot slip forward(unlikely from the momentum assumption). Is the photo taken after the initial forearm flip/elbow block while the defener continued to move on to reach with his counter attack? I conclude that its either an attempt to demonstrate the classical bottom up knife defene with the demo partner executing a front leg knife hand bottom-up attack while Instructor is not paying attention, or its an early stage development of Krav Maga. But knowing Immi's meticulous attention to detail, I narrow it down to early stage development of Principles of Krav Maga! See more

04.01.2022 The Knife Chapter in the Israel Defense Forces first Krav Maga book in 1967 Reading the Old IDF Krav Maga Manual from 1967 Instructions and the book itself has ...138 photos, so it’s not as easy to tell exactly every move according to the instructions. At the same time makes you wonder with the collection of photos if it was done after Immi left the IDF, or they did not consult him enough were in a hurry to produce a documentary for the library, but the instruction says to run with a top down hold while crossing legs as running or more precisely with cumbersome description to leap forward and cross your legs starting with the knife top down in the right hand but ending with the left foot in front grabbing the opponent's shirt with the left hand, and first stabbing him in the ribs and only the second stab to the clavicle. I think it’s very possible that someone were describing what was going on in the photos and assumed its one drill or took a short cut. I learned that you can stab either in the neck or the rib preparing for any possible defensive block, but of course if you were to stab a soldier in combat in the close range your neck would be preferable as his combat vest filled with magazines might stop the knife! The order of the photos however with top down hold demonstrate rib stab first, so it’s possible someone put the photos in certain order and someone then put the text later. Another possibility is if the attacker is taller as you are running and he is standing that might work better, but still it does not seem logical. The defense vs. the Top down prescribed was a kick to the groin and as the kicking foot comes down switching to a knee kick to the head while grabbing the attacker's shirt or head. Eli Avikzar I guess changed it later to hammer punch and at certain times said you can do both. Seems like if you are stepping diagonally under the knife for the groin kick for greater safety, it’s better to use your arm and not get caught in the close range standing on one foot in case the attacker managed to grab your legs and try and trip you. Then there are photos of the 360 block vs. top down knife stab with grabbing the wrist and pushing the arm forward in a downward circle to prevent follow up rib stab with counter attack after the arm is controlled downward. There is no text regarding these photos and no explanation how to drill them. Following to that is vague description of bottom up stab, and how to drill the defense by stepping forward and to the left, blocking with the middle of the forearm in the middle of the attacker's forearm, and when grabbing it for a cavalier counter attacking. The training steps are step to stop the knife, grab and punch, noose and kick. Not sure if it’s a short description of pulling and taking out of balance while kicking or not. However according to the photo after the punch he is grabbing the knife holding fist with two hand and bending it so the attacker is bending and ready to receive the kick without being able to escape. I added emphasis for advice and experience not to lift the attacker’s arm up to be more efficient and prevent further counter taking out of balance and reversal of fortune it’s just not listed as part of these instructions. Immi is keeping the cavalier at in front of his heart a little below as he kicks. Next a description of Straight stab knife hold as you are taught blade horizontal knife butt in the life line in the palm fingers from the side and thumb on top. Funny but he says that as you execute straight stab, the left foot (cross leg) is hovering. Then you retract and pull the knife out. Many people thinking they are knife expert think you should never stab standing only on one foot, lol , but if the cross leg is hovering, this is what is actually happens when you stab. The text is describing having the cross hand around the knife holding hand almost like when someone is ready to throw the knife from hand to hand trying to baffle. I think that the writer described what the soldier did in the photo. Next photo Immi is demonstrating a straight stab against a top down stab. So they were probably limited and editing the order of the photos they had. Next the text is describing of front kick with the right leg to the center of the advancing opponent to the center of his body from the stomach to the head. This is a direct approach almost like the scissors kick vs. a bottom up stab. He is calling this kick defensive kick but what it means it’s a heart stomp kick to the center body. Top down knife stab was called regular hold and bottom up was called Arab hold. Next is description of top down knife slash with its training step. Step forward lift the knife over the shoulder with the blade pointing up, and then slash the neck with a spooning motion bending the palm inward. The hold is described as more in the hand than the straight (protruding out of the hand). The description takes short cuts and say hold it like a straight stab but them bring the knife handle in more into your hand. Then when you passed the neck bring it back for reverse slash with reversed motion while you are bringing your body to erect position again (closing the gap created with the cross leg). The instructions are for the defender to hold his arms down with knife in right hand. Then to hit the attacker's wrist with the blade and move his right foot backward and he is doing it in the photo. That was a glitch in the photo and in writing the instructions. The defender did erroneously moved his right foot backward as he was blocking a move which contradicts his left side evading the knife as the knife wrist is being hit into that direction. And this is the last page of the 1967 IDF Krav Maga Book! There is nothing more here folks. Finally, keep in mind that the straight stab is the most efficient stab as it pokes your body from maximum distance at the exact time the attacker lunges and his arm provides maximum straight line extension. Therefore its important not to move your body at all and wait for the moment you could possibly extend your arm and deflect the wrist, in this case with your knife. Then you just continue extending your arm to counter poke the attacker! As for the front kick vs. straight stab, it might work if you are lucky and the attacker is running. But if the attacker is standing with a straight stab knife holding hand infront and is preparing to surprise lunge, he is also preparing to block you and ounter attack or change the direction of his stab or repeat stab. Your kick might be passing close to the knife and he could stab your leg. He might also stab you as you lunge for the kick as he is moving first and waiting to stab after he complete the advance and not at the same time. He can see you moving for a kick and aim to where you are going. Roundhouse kick to the groin under the knife if he is aiming to your neck, or side kick to the knee after moving diagonally forward if the stab is low might be a better choice. If you are standing on your side, side kick to the knee lunging below the knife should work. But the best defense against a straight stab is aiming the middle of your forearm to flip his wrist from the side, and only after the initial arm deflection lunge forward to get closer, control the arm and counter attack with a punch, while pulling the controlled arm with a cavalier and as you pull finish with a groin kick, extract the knife and slash the throat to finish. All these techniques are not in that book!
