22.01.2022 We are starting to get some nice queen cells going that will go into breeding nucs in the next couple of days. We put one cell into a queenless hive, then the queen hatches and goes on a mating flight and starts laying. A new queen lays up to 2000 eggs a day.

22.01.2022 Can't catch us at the markets? You can find a full list of our stockists here on the website. https://www.purennaturalhoney.com/stockists

22.01.2022 I took a few hives further south the other night. Hopefully we will pick up some honey from these hives soon, the conditions look favourable at the moment.

21.01.2022 We extracted some nice bluegum honey this week.

19.01.2022 Fun Fact We know bees make honey but did you know how they make honey? Bees leave the hive in search of flowers containing nectar. They take the nectar from the flowers and store it in their honey stomach, (she can carry close to her own weight in pollen and nectar). The process then begins in the bees honey stomach as it starts to remove moisture content from the nectar. It is then transferred to another bee within the hive who sucks the nectar from the honey stomach and c...ontinues the process by chewing the nectar for up to 30 minutes to continue to reduce the water content as it mixing with the bees enzymes. The bee then spits the nectar into the honeycomb where they will begin fanning the honey with their wings to remove any more excess water content. Once the now honey is just right the bees with then cap it in the honeycomb with a layer of wax.

19.01.2022 We have had a lot of new followers over the last month so we would like to take the time and introduce you to our husband and wife beekeeping team. Keith has been keeping bees since his teen years and started full-time beekeeping a while back now. Keith is our one and only beekeeper here at Pure n Natural Honey. He maintains nearly 400 healthy hives, moves the hives as needed to follow a consistent food source for our bees. As many beekeepers in the area know he also supplie...s beehives and training to other beekeepers in the area. Denise is the face you will see at the markets and delivering orders to locals, posting honey Australiawide (within state regulations) and is in charge of bottling and stickering the bottles. Together Keith and Denise do the extraction process and this is why we can guarantee that nothing is added and nothing is taken away from our raw honey through any process of the journey. When you are supporting us, you are directly supporting a small family business based here in Australia

15.01.2022 Arcadia Scents is a local mackay business using Pure n Natural Honey in their products Thanks for supporting us.

15.01.2022 I moved a load of bees onto Grahams Local Macadamia Orchard again to do their pollinating work. Studies have shown up to 40% improvement in yield by bringing bees in to pollinate.

14.01.2022 It was an interesting day. John got me out to take these bees out of this log. It took a bit of doing, but the end result was excellent. I'll go back and check them in a week or two.

14.01.2022 It was great having you out here this morning and thanks for supporting local businesses.

12.01.2022 Our bees are doing a great job pollinating these fruit trees. Fun fact: Bees are responsible for approximately 1/3 of total food production.

11.01.2022 You can find Denise at the Mackay Showground Markets this morning. Stock up on fresh produce and support local businesses. https://www.facebook.com/MackayShowgroundMarket/

11.01.2022 Look at my worker go (Boss). Best wife I ever had

10.01.2022 I took this picture today while working the bees, she is loaded up with pollen.

10.01.2022 Although we dont offer native beehives, we do own a couple of hives. These are Australian native stingless bees. These natives produce unique honey called sugarbag honey. Although we choose not to extract from our native beehives, stingless bees can produce up to approximately 1kg of honey a year. Because of these small quantities, their unique honey can be worth up to $200 a kg. The honey has a higher moisture content than honey produce by honey bees and has a tangier taste.

09.01.2022 What a beauty, look at this swamp bloodwood next to one of our yards. Bees are loving it.

08.01.2022 Do you know what to do if you or someone you know is stung by a bee? Most of the time the beestings have no serious side effects, they just bloody hurt but to some people, it can be life-threatening.

08.01.2022 BeeGood Wax Wraps are a great Australian Owned and Made business based right here in Mackay. A long time supporter of Pure n Natural Honey using our pure beeswax for the wraps. Make sure you enter their current competition

08.01.2022 Bee numbers are looking good so I started to make up a few nucs yesterday.

07.01.2022 I think this nuc might need some room. Lucky they haven't left home.

06.01.2022 You can find our range of Pure n Natural Honey products at Porters Mitre 10 Mackay. https://www.facebook.com/Porterscando/

06.01.2022 These have been in this old log for about 50 to 60 years maybe longer. Our friends dad had them but after he passed away they gave them to me. Never been game enough to split them out of the log as there is too mush sentimental value attached. They live with about 60 breeder hives

06.01.2022 Weve finally finished our new extraction room. Its been a long six months and plenty more went into the planning. We were building this while still beekeeping full time. It will certainly make the extraction process much easier and a lot cooler.

05.01.2022 Looks like another day in the shed painting boxes. Light showers here this morning.

05.01.2022 How interesting is this. A young Australian scientist has made a potentially ground-breaking breakthrough in the search for a breast cancer cure.

03.01.2022 Love your honey bees? The Australian honey bee industry has developed a biosecurity best practice guideline for beekeeping in Australia.

03.01.2022 Did anyone else catch this story on Landline? Its very informative! The story shares the importance of bees and the struggles many Australian beekeepers are facing. It is worth the watch. Let me know your thoughts after watching it https://www.abc.net.au//bee-future:-precious-hon/12122388

02.01.2022 Toby and his mum have been excited to receive their bees and eagerly learning as much as they could about beekeeping and on Thursday we delivered. I completed a hive transfer and training showing him through the hive and what to look for. Have a look at the setup. It has to be one of the best I've seen. They had been busy planting Manuka Trees and passionfruit vines in the area surrounding the hive which the bees will love as they grow.... #beekeeping #mackay

02.01.2022 Thank you to The Greater Whitsunday Farmers Markets for giving us the opportunity to share our beekeeping story and our passion for educating others of the importance of bees.
