JMH: Andy, why do people get cold feet when it comes to painting in black? Pure Paint: Black is ultimately the most unforgiving colour when it comes to imperfections. You’re going to see every lap mark and chip. It can also be pretty difficult to touch up. Additionally, a black exterior absorbs heat which can cause timber to swell and shrink. Over time this can crack or split the timber. JMH: So what is the most important thing to remember when it comes to painting your outdoor products black? Pure Paint: Using a good quality paint system designed for exteriors is a must. Its also really important to prep your timber well. This means using a good sealant, an even better base coat and paint your gate or garage door as soon as its installed. Finishing is key too. Always follow the paint manufacturers advice on how many coats to apply and finish the tops, bottoms and sides exactly the same as the face. There you have it!
