07.01.2022 Breakouts vs Acne Were all prone to getting the occasional spot, but a breakout (or even a few) doesnt equal acne. Truth is.. breakouts are normal! Pores are normal, oil production is normal. Our skin is an excretory organ!... We commonly see clients who suffer breakouts using products that over-dry or over-exfoliate the skin thinking it will dry out their breakouts. But this actually leads to a compromised skin barrier, trans-epidermal water loss and in turn.. more breakouts! (as well as a reddened complexion, sensitivity & the skin producing even more oil trying to replace what has been stripped away) They then fall into the vicious cycle of treating their skin as an acneic skin and only making it worse. Often leading to a GP visit which may end up with a prescription for antibiotics or other drugs (that have serious side effects) when all the skin really needed was a gentle barrier supporting regime with the correct ingredients and the skin would have repaired itself! Even if youve had acne in the past, there is a difference between how we would treat adolescent acne VS adult hormonally induced acne. However its important not to feel bad or guilty if youve fallen into the trap of treating an oily / blemish-prone skin this way, its not your fault! And try not to let every little spot get to you! Give yourself some love and care.
