23.01.2022 Statement released by Mark Handley CEO Tennis Queensland advising that the 2021 ATP Cup and Brisbane International will be played in Melbourne not Brisbane. As you are all too aware, 2020 has been a year of challenges and tough decisions. It is with sadness we confirm Brisbane Tennis will not be going ahead in Queensland in 2021. All lead in events to the Australian Open will be held in Victoria to ensure all players can access - and prepare for - the first Grand Slam of th...e year. Whilst this decision is not what we wanted, the restrictions in every state and territory made it impossible for players to prepare properly, and have guaranteed access to Melbourne in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak. The decision also protects the Australian Open; our biggest asset which funds 90% of the sport across all areas of participation. The Melbourne-only summer of tennis means the Brisbane International and ATP Cup will not be hosted in Queensland, however be assured that more than ever our team will be seeking to leverage the heightened interest in tennis by focusing on driving participation. In order to help you play your best and not let the heat beat you then you need to be prepared! Don’t leave the house without a hat on your head, bring an extra icy cold drink bottle and make sure you sip from it consistently throughout the afternoon, bring a towel and diligently apply your sunscreen (if you have sun sleeves, put t...hem on!). Good news for anyone playing a home game here at Ferny - we will be putting on the overhead sprinkler on request so don’t be shy and let the supervisor know when you have finished your set and need a cool down. They will receive a much needed resurface of synthetic grass. Which is just in time for the Australian summer season of tennis including Brisbane International, ATP Cup and the Australian Open. Will keep you updated on progress.
