25.01.2022 One of the best memories of my Great Barrier Reef experience last week... The privilege of sharing a beautiful moment in time, gliding along the shallow sand flats with one of the most graceful and majestic visitors to the area, the Reef Manta Raya heart warming experience that I will never forget.

24.01.2022 One of the reasons that I love going back to Lady Elliot Island every year is the abundance of marine life. This beautiful little island on the Great Barrier Reef is a Green Marine National Park and part of one of the most diverse and complex ecosystems in the world.

23.01.2022 On a rainy day in French Polynesia, I captured this split image of a cow tail stingray swimming in the shallows. Using a wide-angle lens and a large dome port gives the appearance of being in the water and out of the water at the same time. This also offers the viewer a broader range perspective of the location and creates an interesting image.

22.01.2022 The walk down to the water all geared up and ready for some epic marine life encounters. I’ve had some very special underwater experiences at Lady Elliot Island over the years including dolphin, humpback whale and tiger shark encounters. This place, in my opinion, is the jewel of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. I try to get back here at least once a year to experience the magic of this tiny island, situated 80km off the central Queensland coast.

22.01.2022 Reef Manta Rays only have one pup every 2 3 years and are believed to reach sexual maturity at around 10 years of age. The Reef Manta Ray is listed on the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) list of Threatened Species and listed as ‘Vulnerable’ with populations decreasing. I found this mesmerising beauty hovering above a cleaning station near the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort earlier this month. The small blue fish with the lateral stripe are cleaner wrasse doing their job of consuming ectoparasites from the mantas body.

22.01.2022 There’s nothing quite like the feeling of free diving down to a cleaning station bommie to photograph a single manta ray only to look up and see two more mantas steaming in towards you. Pure underwater bliss

20.01.2022 Introducing ‘Elvis’ the Loggerhead Turtle. The well-educated staff at the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort informed me that Elvis is ‘The King’ of the lighthouse keyway. He has made his home there since March earlier this year. I was privileged to meet Elvis as the sun was setting over the Great Barrier Reef one evening last week. Elvis is estimated to be at least 40 years old and the wound on his front flipper is believed to be from a lucky escape from a hungry tiger shark.

20.01.2022 This is the lovely Diane from Pearl Counselling in Brisbane, who recently purchased ‘Serenity’ in a 122cm x 81cm premium canvas print. An image from a very peaceful encounter that I was fortunate to have with an endangered green turtle at Lady Elliot Island last year. Diane is delighted with the calming energy this piece of artwork brings when working with clients at her family counselling clinic. I love it when I hear how happy my art makes people feel.

18.01.2022 As the sun was setting over the Great Barrier Reef one evening earlier this month, I found this friendly little green turtle swimming in the lagoon in front of the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort

17.01.2022 A memorable encounter with an endangered green turtle at Byron Bay in N.S.W I find that using natural light on a bright sunny day really helps to add another dimension to the composition of an underwater photograph. Do you like underwater images with the 'sunball' in the background? I would be interested to know your thoughts :)

16.01.2022 Grey nurse sharks are critically endangered on the eastern seaboard of Australia. The estimates are at around 1000 individuals. Sometimes certain sharks will have deformities from being caught up in fishing gear or even from birth. This grey nurse shark that is sighted from time to time at Wolf Rock in South East Queensland is affectionately known as ‘Smiley’

16.01.2022 A beautiful coral trout swims amongst some tiny baitfish on the Great Barrier Reef. These colourful reef fish are easily recognisable by the profusion of small blue dots covering their body and fins.

15.01.2022 The marine protected islands of the Southern Great Barrier Reef have healthy populations of green turtles and an abundance of stag horn corals. It is not unusual to see more than two or three of these very photogenic sea turtles hanging out together on a patch of coral.

15.01.2022 Golden hour on the Great Barrier Reef in August last year. I was privileged to be in the water with the very talented and knowledgeable underwater photographer and filmmaker, Pablo Cogollos as he was filming the famous pink manta ray of Lady Elliot Island.

13.01.2022 The pre-dive visualization process begins on the duckboard of a dive boat on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Thoughts of epic marine life encounters and crystal clear visibility are always on my mind!

10.01.2022 Green turtles can hold their breath underwater for up to five hours. They can slow their heart rate to up to nine minutes in between heart beats to conserve oxygen. Very impressive little freedivers! I found this one cruising in the lagoon at Lady Elliot Island on a trip last year.

05.01.2022 Happiness is a snorkel with a friendly green turtle on the Great Barrier Reef

05.01.2022 Leopard sharks are nocturnal and spend most of the day resting motionless on the seafloor. At night, they actively hunt for molluscs, crustaceans and small fish. I found this pretty little shark resting on the ocean floor near the Severance shipwreck off Lady Elliot Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

04.01.2022 Nothing gets your heart rate up quite as much as a great white shark coming out of nowhere. It fascinates me to watch (from the safety of a cage) the behaviour of these magnificent apex predators. They have evolved their hunting skills over thousands of years and to watch one disappear from view only to reappear from an angle where you weren’t expecting it to come from definitely keeps you on your toes when preparing for a photo opportunity!

04.01.2022 Sunset in the lagoon at Lady Elliot Island last month and I was lucky enough to share a moment with a very friendly green turtle

04.01.2022 A vibrant burst of colourful baitfish over some very healthy stag horn coral on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Although the reef has been under pressure with warmer water temperatures over the last few years, there are still many beautiful areas that are very much worth protecting.

04.01.2022 Proud to be a contributor to this awesome publication. This is a wonderful tribute to the wildlife both on land and in the ocean that we all cherish. 02.01.2022 A reef manta ray hovers above a cleaning station near Lady Elliot Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Cleaning stations are areas on the reef where manta rays and other marine life congregate to be cleaned by smaller creatures. The cleaning process includes the removal of parasites and is performed by smaller animals including cleaner shrimps and wrasses. These parts of the reef are perfect for underwater photography as they are reliable and consistent places to find larger marine life.
