Everybody tells you what you want to hear their product is the best! Cheapest to run. Easiest to maintain. Safest for you and your family to swim in. And nicest to swim in. If only that was true.....unfortunately the truth about pool cleaners/sanitisers is far removed from the sales spin.. Before you decide what to buy for your pool we recommend you have a close look at the products credentials and listen to the sales spin with an open mind until it can be verified. Here’s what we suggest you check before you buy. 1. Has the system been tested by a recognised independent body or government approved laboratory for its efficacy? i.e. the ability to kill bugs quick enough to meet Health Dept requirements.. How long has the system been on the market and how many are operating successfully in your area? 3. Are there any satisfied customers in your area that you can talk to? 4. What are the chemicals you have to add regularly and can I buy these chemicals/products anywhere? 5. Does the manufacturer of the system own or have an affiliation with pool shops or franchises? 6. Is the system an innovative-patented Govt assisted product or just a reinvented system that has been tried many times before and failed and in some cases banned in many countries? 7. How much am I going to spend on recurring chemical additives. 15.01.2022 So how much have you paid or will pay to get your pool ready? During the winter we have had our system running 2 hours a day! COST SAVINGS!!!! Tested to pool to get it ready for the kids and all I had to do was some acid in and two bags of baking powder..... otherwise everything was where it should be.... 14.01.2022 Here’s the irony: chlorine keeps pool water safe from bacteria and algae, but too much chlorine creates other health hazards. That ‘chlorine’ smell at the pool isn’t actually chlorine, noted Chris Wiant, Chair of the Water Quality and Health Council, in a 2015 statement. What you smell are chemicals that form when chlorine mixes with pee, sweat and dirt from swimmers’ bodies. Personal care products can also interact with chlorine to form these secondary compounds. A 2010 ...study found more than 100 of them in indoor pools! These volatile chemicals remain in the water, where they can be absorbed through the skin or swallowed, or hover in the air closest to the water, where swimmers breathe. Published research has found several health risks: 1. Bladder cancer has been linked to the effects of chlorine. Researchers found changes in key biomarkers (DNA damage that leads to cancer) after a 40-minute swim. These are only biomarkers, not cancer itself, noted the study’s lead author, an epidemiologist; but in principle you don’t want to have things messing up your DNA. 2. Asthma and allergy rates in children increase significantly with exposure to chlorinated pools. The Belgian researchers who conducted this study noted that kids who swam in pools with copper/silver purification suffered fewer instances of respiratory ailments. 3. Tooth decay can be notably worse among the most frequent indoor-pool swimmers, one study found. Chlorine increases the acidity of pool water, and if measures aren’t taken to balance the pH, it can damage tooth enamel. Symptoms included transparent or yellow teeth and pain when chewing. 4. Digestive ailments present a different sort of problem at public pools. Recent outbreaks of cryptosporidiosis, the main symptom of which is diarrhea, sent many people to the hospital. The parasite that causes it is now chlorine-resistant, so the remedy excessive chlorination raises the risk for the other chlorine-related problems.

Chlorinated water and UV rays from the sun break down a compound in the creams into toxic chemicals. Two of those chemicals have been linked to infertility, immune system damage and even cancer. Researcher Dr. Albert Lebedev said: A generally safe compound transforms in the water and forms more dangerous products. The study focused on avobenzone, the most popular sun-blocker in the world. It is used in lipsticks, creams, moisturizers and other cosmetics because of its ability to absorb damaging UV rays. But the Russian researchers found it breaks down in chlorinated water. Two of the chemicals produced acetyl benzenes and phenols are particularly toxic. The reaction usually happened on the swimmers’ wet skin, the researchers noted. They also fear there is a further risk if the water contains copper salts, put in pools to make them look blue. Sunscreen can then break down into a substance linked to liver and kidney problems and nervous system disorders.
