24.01.2022 Writing and editing a new script these last few weeks while I’ve been sick (and the poor CFO), has been so positive. Taking the time to work on a project you love can be so beneficial for your mental wellbeing. The truth is this is my Project B script. I was having issues writing my Project A script, and noting I was heading to the #ProcrastinationZone, I decided I’d focus on something else. This has been notably some of the best writing I’ve done in a while, and my oth...er writing projects for clients has benefited with more creativity and flair. So take a chance and change up your focus. Maybe you were heading in the wrong direction... or maybe you needed a new perspective (Project A is a grown up version of the kids story of Project B). Or maybe you need to make friends with a Dragon (named Theo) instead of wandering the castle grounds? 24.01.2022 Starting a business This is one of my Mum’s favourite Disney clips. ‘The Sorcerer's Apprentice’ starring the one and only Mickey Mouse. This is how I see starting a business, every time. It’s all the hard work that you need to put into the business. Your mentors, your predecessors, and your business partners all telling you how to start, with the simple motion of one task at a time. ... Then you might realise, there’s a short cut. Magically, it’s the broomstick doing all the hard work, without you putting in the elbow grease. Then you realise you can do more by magically getting the broomstick to split into two, and then two, and then two more, until you’re working on so many tasks at the one time. Until you’re overwhelmed. The tasks have all taken on a life of their own, and you’re drowning in the waters washing over your feet, then your legs, your torso, until you can barely breathe But then you have that mentor, that predecessor, or that business partner snap his fingers and the water washes away, all the tasks disappear or become more manageable. And you realise what they were trying to teach you. Sure, there are short cuts, and there are easier ways of doing things in business, but sometimes there’s a reason for you to start small, learn how to mop up that spot, or clean up that floor, wipe the table. These motions are the equivalent of setting up your business processes, your contacts, your networking and your boundaries. Without these things in your business, you get lost under the paperwork, unsure of who and when you’ve contacted a client or supplier, or walk into a business project or relationship that doesn’t work with your core values and goals. 23.01.2022 So we’ve been a bit quiet these last few weeks. Our boss had been sick and then out head social media and CFO (Chief Fur Officer) had received a promotion that included some angel wings... everyone is going to miss Dax popping up in Zoom sessions, and her vocal interruptions to let us know her thoughts on scripts and projects. 18.01.2022 A rewarding day off... spending the day with my 11yo niece. Headed to one of my fav places and finally got a chance to drop in at @thegardenberry and then followed it up with a visit to many stores including @waxlyrical_berry. Olivia was awesome recommending some books, and we walked away with 4 for Miss 11 (so upset I didn’t find anything). Part of business is knowing to take a day for yourself... and spending it with my fav little creative is always good for a reboot. 15.01.2022 R U Ok? Mental Health is a huge thing for me. I've watched family members deal with Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, OCD and more. ... I've seen work colleagues deal with their own mental health struggles, and I've been in workplaces where although there's supposed to be support, there was none from management. And I've lost people I admired, respected, and considered a mentor because of Mental Health issues. (That day broke my heart!) You are NOT ALONE. I deal almost daily with my Mental Health, and I make sure I have a great support network around me. 11.01.2022 This is one awesome woman! Sophie is one of my closest friends from ShireWomen. The first time we met, we talked about an artists perception, and how we work with those perceptions to bring the best out for our clients. She’s one of my fav clients, and she’s one of my fav suppliers. (I’ve recently done some Copy for her, and she’s taken my Photos for her project Sutherland Shire - Open 4 Business which I’ve been allowed to use on my webpage.)... Over the last 6 months, when Covid came crashing down on so many businesses, Sophie took a step back and looked at how she could help so many other businesses, and started the Sutherland Shire - Open 4 Business. She then kept all us photography creatives in focus by providing us a Tuesday Morning lessons and making us develop our own sense of style while understanding our cameras, lenses and subjects. I’ve come to the realisation that sometimes I just need to be away from the office to focus on work. Today, I need to finish a Pilot TV Script. It’s my idea, and I’ve committed to finish it by tomorrow night. But... I’m two acts shy of finishing and it needs a polish. ... Lunch at @cafevostromenai and on the way home I diverted to this place. My sisters back deck. It’s sunny, but shaded. 09.01.2022 The Value of being Creative I saw a castle on a friend’s Instagram the other day (@hayleyaylottmarketing ), and we discussed how much castles meant to us. I’m currently writing a fairy tale television show idea that I’ve had for the last 20 years so castles are my jam. ... What exactly is your jam? Rapunzel here is a great analogy on Creativity in your day job. She’s a prisoner in her own house. She’s not allowed to go outside, enjoy the things that every Creative dreams of. After all her chores are done, she leans back into the one thing that makes her happy painting the walls of her prison, giving her the freedom she desires. Creativity can be one of many things. The way you write your emails to your customers, suppliers, and network. The doodling on the edge of your notebook which gives way to new ideas and new processes. The art of Conversation. Social Media Management. Writing that proposal. Creating a document. I love creating documents, Excel, Word, PowerPoint documents to fit the needs of my clients (or even myself!). I'd love you to share how you are creative in your day to day job.
