25.01.2022 Why are our personal values so important? In episode 12 of Thedowhatyoulovepodcast, I talk with Jackie Le Fevre from Magma affect. Jackie tells us about the importance of knowing our personal values, and how they can affect our attitudes and behaviour. Jackie says that our values and beliefs are rather like the bottom part of an iceberg. They live in our subconscious and we are often not aware of them. But they drive our attitudes and behaviour, which are like the top part ...of the iceberg that appears above the water. Jackie says we need to be careful what we believe, as our values and beliefs can limit our choices and opportunities. 24.01.2022 If you are required to work at home because of the Corona Virus, keep a strict eye on your work hours. Obviously, this won’t apply if your work laptop does this automatically. If you need to fit things in around your work, keeping a strict eye on your work hours makes it easier to fill in time sheets or whatever system you use to record your work hours. If you’d like to know more about this, and other tips for working from home efficiently and effectively, check out episode 9 of Thedowhatyoulovepodcast today! the link is in the graphic. #WorkingFromHome #CoronaVirus #TheDoWhatYouLovePodcast

24.01.2022 How can we build our hope in times such as these? One way is to set goals, and then break them down into little bite sized chunks. As they say, how do you eat an elephant, one bite at a time. Teacher and psychologist Richard Snyder conducted a longterm study into the effect of hope on the academic success of students. He found that the best performing students were able to create clear and meaningful goals, had the willpower to succeed, and were able to create strategies to ...achieve their goals. The first experience I had of setting a large goal and breaking it down into bite sized pieces was when I was preparing to go to Nepal in 1992. I was very unfit, and knew that I had 6 months to change this, so I started with 5 minutes of training on day 1, and increased by 2 minutes each day. By the end of the 6 months, I was working out twice a day for an hour, and was very fit. If you’d like to know more about how to build and maintain hope, check out Episode 21 of TheDoWhatYouLovepodcast today. The link is in the graphic. #Hope #TheDoWhatYouLovePodcast

23.01.2022 One way you can get courage is to set goals. Psychologist Rick Snyder, in writing about hope, said that people who have goals have more hope because they have something to work towards. And if they are able to break those goals down into smaller, bite sized pieces, then achieving each one of those bite sized pieces, increases their belief and increases their ability to try something bigger or harder, a bigger goal. I think courage is very similar. As we achieve little things,... it then gives us the courage to do the next thing. When I was learning to catch busses, I had to start with getting on and off the bus and finding a seat. Once I mastered that, I went on a bus journey with an instructor sitting beside me. Next I progressed to a journey with the instructor somewhere on the bus, and finally ended up taking a journey on my own. Being able to break down that goal of independent travel down into little bite sized pieces, built my belief in my ability and built my courage. While I was still anxious, I was able to get through each step and move onto the next. If you’d like to know more about courage and how to get it, check out Episode 22 of TheDoWhatYouLovepodcast today. The link is in the graphic. #Courage #TheDoWhatYouLovePodcast

19.01.2022 How do we discover our personal values? In episode 13 of Thedowhatyoulovepodcast, I talk with Jackie Le Fevre from Magma Effect about the different ways in which we can discover our personal values. As our values exist in the subconscious, they can’t be expressed in words. They are feelings - things which we are drawn towards and things which we are repelled by. There are a number of free tools we can use to discover our personal values, but the one Jackie recommends is the V...alues Profile, which is on her website (in the show notes to the podcast mentioned below). . 18.01.2022 A major new study has found that half of all Australian workers have experienced a mental illness and 43 per cent of those say their workplace caused it. As sad as these statistics are, they don't surprise me at all, because so many people are living outside of their purpose. In my book "You Don't Need Sight, You Just Neet Vision", available on Amazon, I talk about how we are all created for a purpose. If we can discover and live out our purpose, we will live almost by inst...inct, and will enjoy the life we were created to live, obtaining maximum happiness and fulfilment. However, as we are taught to rely on our knowledge rather than our instinct, it is possible for us to live out our lives relying almost entirely on knowledge, rather than instinct or purpose. This can lead to discouragement, disillusionment, and depression. This is why, my mission in life is to help people discover their life purpose and figure out how to live it out. #lifepurpose #coaching

13.01.2022 One of the worst things about loneliness is that it leaves a lot of room in our heads for negative thoughts. When I left my legal job to run a business, there were many times when I felt very lonely. I’d sit and think about all the thinks that weren’t going well in my life, and I’d become more and more miserable. But if I could find something to keep my mind busy, those negative thoughts would get crowded out, and my loneliness would disappear.... If I couldn’t find a work task or hobby to keep my mind busy, I’d escape into an audio book to keep my mind busy. Another wonderful way to keep your mind busy is to discover and live out your life purpose. This is something that comes naturally to you, that you feel passionate about, and that you know will make a difference. If you spend the majority of your time doing this, your mind will almost always be busy. Since I’ve discovered my life purpose, my mind is nearly always active. Even when I’m not working, I’m often pondering how I can better live out my purpose If you’d like to know more about this, and other tips on how to overcome loneliness and isolation, check out episode 15 of Thedowhatyoulovepodcast today! the link is in the graphic. #loneliness #Isolation #LifePurpose #Thedowhatyoulovepodcast

06.01.2022 Do you have any fears or anxieties that stop you from doing what you want? Here are the 3 things I do when I face something I’m afraid of. Firstly, I rank it on the catastrophe scale. At the top of this scale are the very worst things that could happen, e.g someone could die. At the bottom are minor anxieties, and everything else falls somewhere in between.... Next, I calculate the risk of the thing happening to me. Finally, I work out what I can do to minimise that risk. Using my fear of catching busses and getting lost as an example, the thought of getting lost feels catastrophic to me, but it’s really not. No one is going to die if I get lost somewhere along a bus route in Canberra. The risk of getting lost is fairly low, as I’ve done everything I can to minimise the risk such as communicating with the bus driver, using an app on my phone which tells me which bus to catch and when to get off, and being willing to ask for help. If you’d like to find out more about how I apply these principles to some of the most common fears, the unknown, speaking in front of others, job loss, and illness, check out episode 17 of Thedowhatyoulovepodcast today! the link is in the graphic. #OvercomingFear #Fear #Anxiety #Thedowhatyoulovepodcast

03.01.2022 Are you looking for a guest speaker for your church? My name is Amanda Heal, and I am a totally blind Pentecostal Christian. I attend C3 Belconnen, and sing regularly on the worship team. I passionately believe that God has created each of us for a specific purpose (Proverbs 16:4, Romans 8:28). If we can discover and live out that purpose, we will be doing what God has created us to do, and will be able to live and work at our best.... When I lost my legal job in 2014, this started me on a journey to discover my life purpose. Along the way, I encountered many obstacles, overcame many fears, and learned many valuable lessons, which I write about in my book You Don’t Need Sight, You Just Need vision. I’d love to come and inspire and encourage you with stories from this book. I’d love to be able to tell you about how I discovered my life purpose, and you can discover your’s. I can also speak on encouragement, resilience, mindset, and overcoming fear. If you’d like to hear more, please message me. #speaking #encouragement #LifePurpose #FullPotential #WhereTheresAWillTheresAWay

03.01.2022 If the Corona Virus has turned your world upside- down and you’re feeling fearful or can’t seem to get anything done, be careful what you focus on. It’s so easy to watch more and more news about the Corona Virus. I did that last Sunday night, and then couldn’t sleep. I’ve had to limit my news intake each day, and find that I prefer to watch The Project, as I still get the headlines, but these are mixed in with funny and creative items. I also sometimes refer to the Corona Vir...us app, which is very good. I also focus on my faith, as well as reading books that make me laugh, and listening to podcasts that build me up.
