08.01.2022 Did you know that home theft rises during the Christmas season? If you're away from home visiting family over Christmas, there are a few extra things you can do so your home stays protected. 1. Light up your house. Burglars hate the potential to be seen. Ensure any outdoor sensor or proximity lights are working and consider adding a few inside lamps to timers to create the illusion that people are still inside. 2. Ask a neighbour to collect any of your mail. Package deliverie...s are a very easy and rewarding target for an opportunistic thief. Also, an overflowing mailbox tells burglars no one is home - its perfect for quiet, careful looting. The same can be said for kerbside-bins left out for long periods. 3. Ensure the yard looks clean and tidy for that 'we're still home' lived-in look. Backyard theft is even easier, so ensure anything outside is locked away before you go. 4. Hide your valuables. Many thefts are opportunistic, and effort is a deterrent. Valuable items that can be stolen quickly are the perfect target. Make your valuables harder to find and steal. 5. Be careful of how you dispose of gift packaging after Christmas. The empty box of a new SamsungTV or Playstation outside your home is just advertising to window-shopping thieves who will assume you've got the lovely new item inside. What do you think of our tips? If you have any other nifty tricks, share them below!
