24.01.2022 Okay, so, handstand push-ups may not be everyone's jam, but you've got to hand it to @valnjett, these are quite impressive. We wonder if she's doing all 3,046 like that We also love the dancing cheer squad. However you're smashing out your push-ups, we love having you involved #PUOTD #Pushupoftheday #ThePushUpChallenge
24.01.2022 As the sun sets on 2020 it's good to remember that you've proven at least one thing... together we can get through JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. We found new ways to connect, we found ways to balance work and home life and together we pushed for better mental health Back in May, amidst the height of uncertainty, we had 130,000 Australians keeping active, learning about mental health and collectively completing over 121 million push-ups! We sparked thousands of conversations about me...ntal health and thanks to YOUR incredible efforts we raised over $5.1 million for mental health. WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. #pushforbetter #mentalhealth #community #2020
23.01.2022 Your 220 push-ups today are for the 2.20 million Australians that have been affected by intimate partner violence. Intimate partner violence contributes to more illness, disability and deaths than any other risk factor for women aged 1844 years. Research indicates that among Australian women who face a high degree of intimate partner violence, almost 90% will experience mental ill health during their lifetime. If you need assistance for intimate partner violence, you can call 1800RESPECT.
23.01.2022 As a push-up community, youve managed to smash out OVER 100,000,000 push-ups during the challenge!! That equates to 4 push-ups PER Australian. What a mammoth effort. Its the last day today, and your efforts are not going unnoticed. I bet youre feeling stronger, prouder and better for taking part! We thank you for everything youre doing, and are cheering you to the finish line Now is the time to get those last donations in too for @headspace_aus. Every dollar counts in ...making a difference for the youth of Australia, so push-up and share your donation link on your socials. #isopushup #pushforbetter #thepushupchallenge See more
21.01.2022 Who’s ready to #pushforbetter mental health again in 2021? The target is set: 3,318 push-ups over 25 days. Tragically, that’s the number of Australians who died by suicide in 2019; a number that has risen from 2018, which is why we need your help to shine the spotlight on mental health. ... From June 1 25, target either 25%, 50%, 75% or all 3,318 push-ups. Get your mates, family, workplace, gym, school, or uni involved as we continue to raise awareness of mental health. Register your interest through our website https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/ to grab an info pack and to stay in the loop. Tag someone below who you'll be pushin’ with! #pushforbetter #TPUC2021
20.01.2022 Todays target is 105 push-ups: Its possible that getting 15 minutes of bright sunlight each morning could reduce levels of mental distress. 15 minutes, 7 days...thats 105 minutes of sunshine per week! There are a lot of factors that could be at work here to make sunlight a mood booster, including effects on your circadian rhythm, Vitamin D, or just being outside - getting into nature for a few hours per week can also help out your mental health. Whatever the reason - just be sensible! Sunburn doesnt improve anything.
20.01.2022 Morning legends, We are officially over half way! How is the body feeling? You might be feeling a bit of an imbalance from all of the push-ups over the past 11 days. We suggest throwing in some single arm rows into the mix. All you need is a chair and a weight.... This video was brought to you by Nicole Cifelli from our good friends at @kixxfit!
18.01.2022 If this doesnt get you hustling (and rustling ) into finishing off the push-ups on hump day, we dont know what will! Love a surprise push-up series @joshlukewilliams #PushUpOfTheDay #PUOTD #humpday #almostthere
17.01.2022 Hands up if you are feeling extra hungry after doing all of these push-ups? You probably need to add a few extra calories into your diet to fuel your body, in the form of protein or healthy fats. Coach Morgan Gail from Kixxfit has some suggestions on how to bulk up your salad with some nutritional extras to keep you feeling satiated and full of energy!... #pushforbetter #pushups #headspace #kixxfit #training #thepushupchallenge
16.01.2022 During May 2020 every single participant in The Push-Up Challenge became an Aussie ambassador for mental health. As a collective, this allowed us to raise over $5 million dollars to support headspace - The National Youth Mental Health Foundation. Donations will remain open until June 29th (11:59PM AEST), just in time for the end of the financial year (which is great as anything over $2 is tax deductable). Thats just over 4 days to chase up all those I owe yous from your neighbours, friends and families! Well done push-up team. #isopushup #thepushupchallenge #tpuc
16.01.2022 THIS IS US! The Push-Up Challenge is run by a small but passionate crew who live across many parts of @Australia. We are few but mighty, and relentless in our quest to raise awareness for mental health and we are blown away by your support. #OurStory #TPUCTeam
16.01.2022 We cant quite believe it, but weve hit $4Million raised for @headspace_aus! Sharing in this moment is Jodie from @greengoldandblues on horseback. Jodie has an incredible story of why shes decided to make a difference to mental health, and you should read it in her bio. ... On the challenge, she says The Push-Up Challenge is not only a fantastic challenge, but it really puts into perspective the amount of lives lost every year to suicide here in Australia. It's really easy to hear a number or a statistic and then forget it a few moments later, however by doing just one push-up as a tribute to every person lost, it really allows you to see just how significant that number is. Thanks to the Push-Up Challenge team for all the great work for mental health awareness. You're all absolute legends and are a brilliant example of just how much of a difference a few people can make (to both the mental health space and upper body strength). Our thanks go to all of YOU who are making a difference #thankyou #4million #pushforbetter
15.01.2022 Celebratory #PUOTD! Congratulations to Vitor and Silvia who tied the knot yesterday. Nothing says love and commitment like knocking out 3046 push-ups together to support @headspace_aus - The countdown is on, three more days to go everyone. #isopushup #pushforbetter #pushupoftheday
13.01.2022 Four years ago, Nick and a small group of mates decided they needed to step out of winter hibernation and get back into shape for summer. So, the challenge was set - 3,000 push-ups in a month, no excuses. From these early beginnings, the @pushforbetter event has grown year on year. In 2019, Nick experienced depression before and after major open heart surgery, and while recovering and with time off work and needing a focus, threw his heart and soul into making The Push-Up Ch...allenge a bigger event that could make a difference to raise awareness and funds for mental health. 13.01.2022 The glycaemic index is a value assigned to foods based on how slowly or how quickly those foods cause increases in blood sugar levels. Researchers have discovered that the low GI foods, which give us more stable blood sugar levels, can be useful for moderating our moods. In one example of a trial investigating the link between diet and mood, participants who stuck to a low-GI diet, with a glycaemic load of less than 125 per day, reported lower mood disturbance, fewer depressive-type symptoms, and lower levels of fatigue. Some examples of low-GI foods include sweet potatoes, multigrain bread, and basmati rice.

09.01.2022 While over a hundred thousand Aussies take part in this years @pushforbetter, we wanted to introduce the team behind the challenge The reason The Push-Up Challenge exists is because of the founder, Nick Hudson. His story is enough to inspire anyone to make change! In just four years, The Push-Up Challenge has grown from 4 mates to 130,000 people across Australia pushing for better mental health.... In 2019, our incredible push-up community completed over 50 million push-ups and raised an unbelievable $2.5M for mental health. The Push-Up Challenge is run by a small but passionate crew who live across Australia. We like to like to think of ourselves as small but mighty in our quest to raise awareness for mental health. More info about us is coming soon :)
08.01.2022 Thank you for your amazing fundraising efforts so far!! If you are yet to reach out to family and friends for a donation *this is it* this is the time! #PUOTD creativity bonus points for the talented @carolinecodycostume To take The Push Up Challenge to the next level, Caroline reached out to her donors for creative push-up ideas. This is our fav ... Caroline says I initially joined the Push-Up Challenge with a team from my gym from EFM North Melbourne as a fun way to stay fit during isolation. Once I understood that we were raising funds for headspace, with a bit of spare time from my career in theatre, I upped my game with the intention to try and raise awareness and donations. As the mother of an almost 20-year-old, I am extremely appreciative of the efforts of headspace. Thank you for your support and putting a smile on all our faces on the second last challenge day for 2020. #isopushup #loveactually #pushupactually #pushforbetter #pushupoftheday
08.01.2022 Of the 3,046 push-ups you or your team are completing this year, 2,320 of them represent men who lost their life to suicide in Australia in 2018. Thats over 75% of the total. Women experience mental health issues at higher rates than men, but men are less likely to seek help for them. Some spaces within our communities exist especially to support the mental health of the men in our lives, like the Mens Shed. Mens Sheds provide open workspaces where men can socialise, work, or help out their communities. If you or a male you know needs to talk to someone about mental health, Mensline is a national service for men providing referrals, counselling and support. Call 1300 78 99 78 (24 hours a day).
08.01.2022 The experience of psychological distress and mental ill health is higher amongst socioeconomically disadvantaged Australians. People living in areas of the greatest socioeconomic disadvantage are twice as likely to be experiencing psychological distress compared to those in high socioeconomic areas (18.3% vs 9%). Some factors contributing to this inequality include financial distress, housing insecurity, higher rates of physical ill health, poorer access to mental health services, and greater exposure to crime, incarceration, and violence. Mental ill health can also contribute to socioeconomic disadvantage by making it more difficult to obtain and continue work. Around 25% of Australians who report having a mental health condition have experienced homelessness.
07.01.2022 Youve made it to the end of week 2! Todays target is 0 as we take our final rest and recovery day before we hit the home stretch. Time to kick back and enjoy some well-earned time off Break out some chilled tunes and reflect on what youve achieved so far! Most importantly, make sure you stretch those pecs, allow yourself to slow down, take a moment to relax, ease your mind and make your health a priority. 06.01.2022 2020s final #PUOTD is brought to you by @byewarren - Paramedic and mama of three Vetty (with support from her mini work out partner ) has been participating in The Push-Up Challenge with a large group of work friends in Sydneys South West. Weve loved seeing each and every one of your push-ups and cant wait to see you back in 2021! #isopushup #pushupoftheday #thepushupchallenge #pushforbetter
05.01.2022 People with a diagnosis of mental illness are at much higher risk of physical diseases such as diabetes, lung disease, cancer and heart disease. This is likely due to a number of factors, including the side effects of medications used to treat mental ill health, higher rates of cigarette smoking and alcohol use, focus on mental health treatment rather than physical health, and the social isolation and stigma that can accompany mental ill health. In Australia, this has contributed to a large life expectancy gap between those with severe mental ill health, and those without a similar diagnosis. One study estimated this gap at 16.4 years for men with a severe mental health diagnosis. Others have suggested that there could be up to a 30% reduction in total life expectancy- thats over 20 years.
05.01.2022 Todays 157 push-ups represent the 15.7% of Australian women who have anxiety-related mental health issues. Anxiety-related conditions are the most common mental health difficulty in Australia, and females experience these conditions at one and half times the rate of males. They are even more common amongst young Australian women with nearly a quarter of females aged 15-24 having this experience. One type of treatment that can help with anxiety is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Cognitive behavioural therapy aims to identify, challenge, and ultimately change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. It teaches positive coping strategies and problem-solving skills and can help people become active participants in their own treatment.
04.01.2022 $3.5 MILLION!!!! Were blown away with the support for the @pushforbetter, which is directly impacting the lives of Australias youth, with funds raised going to @headspace_aus! Weve thrown this milestone over to one of those who is part of #headspace Hi everyone, my name is Harrison. I am a member of the National Youth Reference Group (hY NRG) at @headspace_aus, along with a handful of other young people from across the country. Growing up I had very little mental health... literacy and no idea that there were others out there experiencing similar things. Now, learning how to effectively manage my own mental health with the help of others, I know just how important it is to raise awareness for these services and reduce the stigma associated with mental health and help seeking. A massive thank you to all of you out there supporting headspace and the destigmatisation of mental health by participating in The Push-Up Challenge. Absolute rock stars! #thepushupchallenge See more
03.01.2022 Todays target is 124 push-ups. Under the Better Access Scheme, Australians who are experiencing mental ill health and are entitled to Medicare can receive rebates for up to 10 sessions with a mental health professional. There are many different mental health professionals available, and your GP can assist you in finding the right fit. The different types of mental health professional attract different rebates. In 2019, the Medicare rebate for a session with a clinical psychologist was up to $124.50.
