25.01.2022 I enjoyed another nice chat on the blower with Cass Hopetoun (www.facebook.com/casshopetoun) on today's edition of the Country Club, focusing on her second single release, "Typical Bride" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKosMrT-tcw). A somewhat unsuspecting lady of the limelight, Cass stumbled upon her talent for song after a school friend ‘dragged her along to the choir’ as a young student and, after performing her first solo gig, the scene was quite obviously set for what was to ...become a lifelong passion. Cass' debut single, "Shots", peaked at No.4 on The Music Network County Airplay Charts, remaining in the Top 20 for 11 weeks, and has so far received over 100,000 streams on Spotify, plus the song's 70’s nostalgia filled video still currently sits at No.11 on the Country Music Channel chart. Not only that, her music is now being released on Compass Bros via Universal Music Australia, which is a huge accomplishment off the back of a debut single. Cass recently attended the 2020 Tamworth Country Music Festival and took home 1st place in the Tamworth Country Music Association’s Talent Quest and, with plenty of material ready to go, she is eager to keep the ball rolling into this decade so we can expect to be hearing a lot more from Cass Hopetoun. 25.01.2022 I had a really interesting and pleasant chat on the phone with Tony Smith (www.facebook.com/TonySmithMusicPage) from Wentworth in NSW on today's edition of the Country Club. Tony's latest single, "Dirt Kids", from his forthcoming album entitled "Stir The Embers" follows the success of his previous single, "Dance On", which charted nationally around Australia, peaking at #15 on the Country Songs Top 40 and #8 on the Tasmanian Top 40. Tony’s songs capture the Australian country... way of life in a way that echoes the spirit of the legendary John Williamson. He carefully crafts his music to reflect the stories of the people on the land, telling their tales, and his, with both heart and humour. He has had songs recorded by James Blundell and he's been featured as part of the ABC series "The Recording Studio" when he recorded a tribute to his father with multi-Golden Guitar winning producer Matt Fell. Music has always been in Tony's blood and his songs create a rich tapestry that reflects life in rural Australia with an endearing authenticity. If you missed the interview or would enjoy listening to it again it can be easily accessed by clicking on this podcast link: http://www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-11-01-01-57-03.mp3

25.01.2022 I had the pleasure of chatting on the phone with Riley Catherall (www.facebook.com/rileycatherallmusic) on last Sunday's edition of the Country Club. Originally from Canberra, he's an Americana influenced singer/songwriter who is now based in Geelong. He picked up the guitar at the age of 4 and learned to play it classically until the end of High school when he started studying at the School of Music at the Australian National University, after which he cut his teeth in local... bars and clubs playing in Jazz and Blues bands up and down the east coast. In 2017, Riley attended the Academy of Country Music in Tamworth and it was here that he was exposed to the vast world of Country music and given the chance to write with some of the industry’s best songwriters, including Kevin Bennett, Mike Carr and Matt Scullion. It was during this time that he met Australian Country music icon, Kasey Chambers, who asked Riley to be her guitarist at a handful of shows for her Dragonfly album launch tour before he went into the studio with Bill Chambers to record his five-track EP.

23.01.2022 I had a great chat with Ben Ransom (www.facebook.com/BenRansom101) on today's edition of the Country Club about his fantastic new single, "Mamma Said", which is a delightful taste of his forthcoming album entitled "Brave New World", due for release in early 2021. Ben is originally from Toongabbie in southeastern Victoria but is currently based in Sydney, where he works as an anaesthetic nurse. Since being named Best Male Rising Artist at the Southern Stars Awards in 2016, Be...n Ransom has been putting in the yards night after night. He has opened for the likes of Tim McGraw, and supported well known music legends such as Diesel, Daryl Braithwaite, Mental as Anything, Ian Moss and Dragon, while also appearing multiple times at major music festivals including the Gympie Music Muster, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, Country Rocks Sydney and many more. Ben has travelled, toured and performed all over the globe during a two and a half year stint in Europe, which included a couple of months performing in the heart of London’s West end, where it was said he brought the spirit of a B&S Ball to the heart of that city. He has recorded two studio albums and one ‘live’ one and notched up three National #1’s and multiple Top 10 charting singles, along with a swag of award nominations, which is a testament to his broad appeal, huge talent and a genuine down to Earth personality. 2020 will mark the release of his third studio album "All In All", which is the culmination of his last 10 years in the industry and will be his most definitive album to date. But, more importantly, it will be an opportunity for his legion of fans to celebrate his musical journey with him.

21.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I had the pleasure of chatting on the phone with Courtney Keil (www.facebook.com/itscourtneykeil), who was born on a working deer farm in South Australia but now resides in Melbourne. She recently released her debut single, "I Just Wanna Hold You", which is about as good a song as I've ever heard to kick start what I'm sure will prove to be a long and very successful career in Country music. The recording of the track certainly presente...d some challenges because Courtney's trip to Nashville in March, where she was meant to begin laying down the track, was cancelled right on the eve of her departure due to the outbreak of Covid-19. However, thanks to the use of modern technology and some great co-ordination by producer Rod McCormack, the project was able to move forward. 17.01.2022 I was delighted to have a phone conversation with Gold Coast based Lindsay Waddington (www.facebook.com/lindsaywaddington.music) on today's edition of the Country Club about his outstanding new instrumental, Tanami Track, which is the first original song that has been released from his latest album, Roadworn. Lindsay started his musical career at the age of 15 as a drummer before becoming an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and consummate entertainer with his trademark ...yellow electric guitar with which he developed his unique style of playing upside down. Lindsay has released 11 albums, to date, and won - or received finalist nominations as an instrumentalist - for many of Australia’s leading industry awards. Last year he was inducted into the prestigious Hands of Fame Park in Tamworth during Australia’s largest Country Music Festival, and proudly added his handprint to those of other notable Australian Country music identities, who's paw prints have been set in concrete. Lindsay has won many awards as a producer, including International Country Album of the Year in Iowa four times and he also won Traditional Country Album of the Year in Nebraska. The interview has been uploaded as a podcast and can be accessed by clicking on this link: www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-07-19-03-11-25.mp3

17.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I had the privilege of chatting on the phone with Ronnie Joudo (www.facebook.com/ronnie.joudo). Among other things, we spoke about his latest single, Falling In Love In Galveston, which follows hot on the heels of his equally fantastic debut release, "Cruisin' Along" that I played on this program a couple of weeks ago. Ronnie began his singing career in Southwest Sydney way back in 1999. He was performing at local functions when he was... discovered in 2001 by multi-award-winning Ace Fender, who was highly impressed with Ronnie's vocal ability, and he invited Ronnie into his recording studio to begin laying down some tracks for his first album. At around that time Ronnie was also privileged enough to perform alongside his mentor, who sadly passed away in 2002, so the album project was never completed, which was doubly sad given that Ronnie was set to be Ace’s protégé. Following the tragic loss of his mentor and friend, Ronnie continued to perform at private functions, open mic nights and various other venues up until 2010. Ronnie describes the song writing experience he enjoyed with Ace, and the invaluable knowledge he gained from him, as unbelievable. Ace had written songs for the likes of Jade Hurley and Slim Dusty, among many others of similar standing, so Ronnie decided to take the information Ace had passed on to him, combine that with his own experiences, and begin writing more songs. By 2018 he was back performing live. In 2019 Ronnie discovered Rod Motby at Tracking Dog Studios and the process of recording recommenced, leading to the release of his excellent debut single Cruisin’ Along, which I'm sure is the first of many more to come. There’s can be no doubt that Ronnie Joudo (pronounced "Judo") has a huge future ahead of him as one of the finest voices to enter the Australian Country Music family and I'm honoured to have him waiting on the phone to have a chat with me so let's not keep the man waiting any longer. If you missed the interview or would like to hear it again please feel free to access it by clicking on this podcast link: www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-08-02-03-24-15.mp3

16.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I had the pleasure of chatting with Raechel Whitchurch (www.facebook.com/raechelwhitchurchofficial), a very talented singer, songwriter and musician who hails from Parkes in NSW, about her beautiful new single "My Father", which is clearly a very personal and heartfelt tune. In March this year, Raechel released the first single from her forthcoming album, "I Found Home", which peaked at #27 on the The Music Network’s Country Airplay Char...ts and caught the attention of Compass Bros Records, who have signed her to an exclusive distribution agreement. Raechel has spent her entire life immersed in Australia’s Country music scene. She was raised in Broken Hill and Parkes, as well as in a caravan, and she grew up playing mandolin, guitar, banjo, and keys. She was also the primary songwriter in her family’s travelling band, The Lees, that released three albums and appeared at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, the Gympie Music Muster and the Adelaide Fringe Festival, before Raechel decided to pursue a solo career. It’s been four years since she released her debut EP, "Outlaw", which reached #1 on the Australian Country Albums iTunes Chart and she has opened shows for many major Australian artists, including Fanny Lumsden, Wendy Matthews and Shane Nicholson.

16.01.2022 I was deeply honoured to conduct a phone interview on today's edition of the Country Club with the legendary Catherine Britt (www.facebook.com/CatherineBrittFans), one of Australia’s best loved Country singer/songwriters and a lady who genuinely needs no introduction. She has lived a life in the world of entertainment that most will never experience or even dream of. The quintessential Aussie girl from the coal works of Newcastle uprooted herself at 17 years of age and moved ...to Nashville for six years, where she gained a deep knowledge of Country music while touring extensively and releasing a large number of top 40 Billboard hits. To this day, she remains the youngest Australian to ever perform at the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 17. Catherine has toured, performed and recorded with some of the music world's most respected names including Kasey Chambers, Paul Kelly, Sir Elton John, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Don McLean, Chris Isaak, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Guy Clark and Keith Urban to name but a few. Not only is Catherine an accomplished singer/songwriter, she also proved herself to be a formidable interviewer and radio personality during the time she hosted the ABC's national weekly broadcast, "Saturday Night Country". She also shone on television as the host of Country Music Channel's "Alt Country" program. She was also the Managing Editor & Owner of Australia’s ONLY Roots Music Magazine, "Rhythms", as well as being the founder and festival director of the highly prestigious Silverton Sunsets Music Festival. 16.01.2022 I had another really interesting and pleasant chat on the phone with Tony Smith (www.facebook.com/TonySmithMusicPage) from Wentworth in NSW on today's edition of the Country Club. Tony's latest single, "Hit It On The Run", from his excellent album entitled "Stir The Embers" follows the success of his previous singles, "Dance On", which charted nationally around Australia, peaking at #15 on the Country Songs Top 40 and #8 on the Tasmanian Top 40, and "The Ghost Of This Guitar"..., that shot to number 2 on the National Country Airplay charts at the start of the year. The well earned success of his singles gained Tony two prestigious wins at this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival, being The Most Promising Future Star at the People's Choice Awards and Bluegrass Song Of The Year at the Songwriters Salute Awards. Tony’s songs capture the Australian country way of life in a way that echoes the spirit of the legendary John Williamson. He carefully crafts his music to reflect the stories of the people on the land, telling their tales, and his, with both heart and humour. 15.01.2022 I was genuinely delighted to conduct a phone interview with Max Jackson (www.facebook.com/maxjacksonmusic), a very talented young female Country music artist who hails from Newcastle, focusing on her fantastic single, Bad Idea, that's off her debut album, Life Of The Party, which remarkably hit #1 on the Australian iTunes Country Chart soon after being released. Max, who has been mentored by none other than Gina Jeffreys for the past 11 years, was the Inaugural winner of the TodaysCountry94one Brand New Star competition and she's a proud graduate of the prestigious Talent Development Project, as well as The Academy of Country Music. She ...was inspired to hone and pursue her own country rock style and during 2020 she teamed up with young producer Liam Kennedy-Clark to record her first album, which is due to be released in the next few months. 10.01.2022 This Sunday the Country Club will be featuring music exclusively from Australian artists in recognition of PVFM's Social Media Team's Aussie August feature for this month.

10.01.2022 I interviewed Nina from the Vixens of Fall (www.facebook.com/V.O.F.official) back in March of last year and I was truly delighted to this time have a lovely chat with her sister, Lulu, by phone today on the Country Club. The girls are back at it with their latest single, "Break It Easy", that follows the success of their EP "A Love Like Ours", which debuted at #6 on the iTunes Country Chart and at #47 overall. The Vixens are a trio made up of sisters Nina, Wren and Lulu, wh...o are a product of Queensland's northern sugar cane fields, hot summers and cyclones, and like their homeland, they are sweet, hot and a little bit crazy. They had a huge start to 2020 and this year is already shaping up for their biggest one yet because they have more great new music and several live shows in the pipeline so things are continuing to heat up for them. As the girls put it, it’s all about lust and desire and dancing and who doesn’t want a piece of that? 10.01.2022 I had the inestimable privilege of doing a phone interview with the one and only Clelia Adams (www.facebook.com/cleliaadamsmusic) on today's edition of the Country Club. Clelia has been an integral part of the very fabric of the Australian Country music scene since 1975, where she began as a session singer on thousands of tracks recorded in all Tamworth studios for 25 years. From the outset, her music has been embraced by the international Country music radio community and s...aw her become the darling of the European, UK, NZ and Australian Country music airplay charts with each successive album producing smash radio hits on Australian, European, UK & US airplay charts over her stellar international recording career that spans an amazing 16 years. Clelia's highly impressive "Classic Hits" CD, which contains a whopping 22 of her top charting tunes, is an absolute must have album for every Country music aficionado’s record collection because it features her evocative retro music mix that has captivated the Australian and International Country music world with her unique and mighty infectious blend of classic Country, western swing, honky tonk, Country rock and rockabilly. 09.01.2022 It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of the legendary Country music identity, Hal Ketchum (www.facebook.com/hal.ketchum.7), last Monday at the age of 67. Hal has been performing his wonderful songs and entertaining audiences since the mid 80's and there can be no doubt this highly talented gentleman will be sorely missed by his legion of fans. My sincere condolences go out to his family and all those who were close to him. Please join me next Sunday between 12 noon and 2:00 on 88.6 Plenty Valley FM when I play a couple of Hal's greatest hits as a special Country Club tribute to one of the true greats of Country music. The world is certainly a poorer place without him.

09.01.2022 I had the pleasure of once again chatting with Brook Chivell (www.facebook.com/brookchivellofficial) via the phone during the first half of today's editon of the Country Club. I've actually interviewed Brook four times before so he's becoming something of a regular on the show but I certainly don't see that as a bad thing, by any means. Brook's latest single release, "Country Kinda Guy", is yet another excellent example of his uncanny ability to pump out really awesome songs ...in quick succession, proving that he's not a bloke who likes to let the grass grow under his feet. Brook was selected for the Top 10 at 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival’s Starmaker competition and he has performed at some of Australia’s most prestigious Country Music Festivals, including the Deni Ute Muster, the Gympie Music Muster, the Sydney Country Music Festival, the Broadbeach Country Music Festival and, of course, Tamworth, plus he’s supported such well known acts as Adam Brand, Troy Kemp, Morgan Evans, The Wolfe Brothers, Matt Cornell and Travis Collins. There can be no doubt that Brook is well on his way to establishing himself as a bona fide tour de force in the Australian Country music scene and I'm sure he's destined to become one of our most successful Country artists in the very near future. As always, if you missed Brook's interview or would simply like to listen to it again feel free to click on this podcast link: http://www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-10-10-23-55-23.mp3

06.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I had the pleaseure of chatting on the phone with QLD based singer/songwriter, JD Reynolds (www.facebook.com/jdreynoldsofficial), who is a true singer, a real songwriter, a modern producer with a head full of fresh new ideas, an incredible dancer and striking performer, all wrapped up in a stunning package that could grace the cover of any magazine in the world, and yet, her down to earth country girl charm is what makes this extraordina...ry artist so real. JD’s sound is fresh originality for Country music, as is clearly demonstrated by her latest single, "Whatever, that I played a minute ago, which is the first track to be released from her forthcoming album. As well as being an obviously talented singer and songwriter, JD is also a trained dancer and award-winning choreographer who needs to dance her own moves as well as sing her own words and melodies. She knows how to make Country sound great and look even better and she is quite capable of captivating those who hear her and mesmerizing those who see her. In other words, she knows how to tantalise our ears AND our eyes! As always, if you missed my chat with JD or would like to hear it again you can access it at this podcast link: https://omny.fm//pvfm-the-c/jd-reynolds-interview-30-05-21

05.01.2022 I had the honour of conducting a phone interview local Melbourne based artist, Brendan McMahon (www.facebook.com/brendan.mcmahon.374), on today's edition of the Country Club. This very talented Singer/Songwriter, who originally hails from a small rural farming town in South Australia, has spent four decades honing his considerable musical skills and is certainly one of the most capable artists in the Australian and overseas music industries. In 2015 and 2016, in collaboration... with some renowned Australian session musicians, Brendan released his first solo albums, "Falling To Earth" and "Marker 7-58", under the moniker of Satellite Gods. In 2017, after supporting artists such as Boom Crash Opera, The Chantoozies and Russell Morris, he released the his CD entitled "On This Fine Occasion", which received incredible reviews both locally and internationally. November 2019, saw Brendan release "In The Moment", an album that he feels has been a game changer in his musical direction, moving strongly towards his roots of Country music. Last month saw the release of his 5th solo album, No Rush Today, which has already delivered the top 10 Amrap single, Jack, and will further cement his direction towards the Country music arena. Drawing upon Australian music royalty, namely Steve Wade from the Little River Band, Danny Spencer, a member of Jimmy Barnes' Band, Brett Kingman from James Reyne's Band and Peter Maslen from Boom Crash Opera, as well as a string trio from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Brendan's albums embrace the essence of story-telling and leave his audience thinking about the songs long after the last track finishes. If you missed the interview or would like to listen to it again, it ccan be accessed by clicking on this podcast link: http://www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-11-15-00-15-45.mp3

04.01.2022 I first interviewed Jed Zarb (www.facebook.com/jedzarbmusic) last February when he had just released his debut solo single, "Mountain Man", and I had the chance to chat with him on the phone again back in May of last year about his second release, "Hillbilly Cider", so it was great to catch up with him once more on today's edition of the Country Club to talk about his latest release, "Stay For A While", yet another great tune from this very talented singer/songwriter from the... Blue Mountains that was co-written with Jed's son, Dylan Burrows, and veteran Australian Country music artist, Warren H Williams. Jed is no stranger to the life of the Country Musician. He is a man who has traversed multiple sectors of the industry and it has not been until recently that he has taken to bringing his own music to the public domain. Originally hailing from Sydney’s West, Jed grew up playing music and mastering instruments from the guitar to the saxophone, skill’s he honed throughout his 11 years of service with the RAAF. By 2016 Jed’s musical career finally started to blossom. He has shared the bill with the likes of Diesel, Rachel Beck, James Blundell, Dianna Corcoran and John and Ami Williamson and played at numerous festivals including Music in the Mulga, Ballina CMF, Boyup Brook CMF, Groundwater CMF and the Blue Mountains Music Festival. He boasts an incredible tally of over 2500 solo shows in his lifetime to date including two tours of the Solomon Islands. The past year or so has seen Jed working on developing a new sound, resulting in a truly Australian form of expression that's heavily influenced by his childhood hero, John Denver, as well as Aussie icons like Sara Storer and John Williamson. If you'd like to listen to his fantastic new song and our very pleasant conversation simply click on this podcast link: www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-07-26-00-51-20.mp3

02.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I had the distinct pleasure of chatting on the phone with Bec from Innocent Eve (www.facebook.com/InnocentEveMusic), a Queensland duo comprising sisters Rachel and Bec Olsson, about their amazing new single release, "Mixed Bag", among other things, which is from their latest album entitled simply "Viking". The girls are are a true testament to the power of song as a binding force and to date they've had many notable career highlights, in...cluding: - 5 singles released from their debut album, "Temporary Balms", all charting in the Kix Country Hottest 20, - performing at AmericanaFest in Nashville as part of the Australian Showcase at the Bluebird Café, - their previous single, which was the title track from their "Viking" album, hitting #1 on the 2TM Top 20 Charts and remained there for 16 weeks, - several of their songs hitting the Country Tracks Top 40 airplay charts, - various videos of their's featuring in the Country Music Channel Top 50, - an earlier single, "Sisters" off their "True North" album, reaching #2 on the AMRAP Regional Airplay Charts and - performing at many Australian music festivals including Groundwater and Tamworth, the Gympie Music Muster, the Birdsville Big Red Bash, Cruisin’ Country and the Airlie Beach Music Festival, where they opened for John Williamson. Quite an impressive list of achievements if you ask me! As usual, I recorded the interview, including their single, "Mixed Bag", and posted it as a podcast, which can be accessed by clicking on this link: http://www.pvfm.org.au/podcasts/97/2020-08-16-03-19-03.mp3

02.01.2022 On today's edition of the Country Club I was proud to be able to have a chat on the phone with Roo Arcus (www.facebook.com/rooarcus), who hails from the Southern Tablelands of NSW and recently released his outstanding single, "Lovin’ Right", from his latest album entitled "Tumbleweed". Roo is a golden guitar finalist and he's is as real as they come. He sings the way he lives: honest, true and country. He’s a cowboy, a storyteller, a songwriter and one heck of a good recordi...ng artist. This Australian cattleman, who still works on the family farm, oozes authenticity and remains steadfastly true to his Country roots. As the 2016 Country Music Association of Australia Award Finalist for Male Artist of the Year, as well as the Toyota Heritage Song of the Year, Roo has well and truly earned his stripes in Australia and is now set to take on the world, splitting his time between Australia and the Country music heartland of the southern United States. Roo has released three albums that resulted in a string of radio hits, awards and nominations. Drawn to the road, he has toured and played most of the major festivals in Australia and has twice been an official Country Music Association showcase artist in Nashville. His resilience, hard work, and pride in his music, has earned him industry wide respect as well as the admiration of his loyal and ever-growing fan base. Turning his focus to the future, Roo has now released his fourth album, which was recorded at Sony Studios on ‘Music Row’ in Nashville. Amazingly, the album's title track, "Tumbleweed", has already had over 80,000 streams since its release. It's true to say that few do it like Roo. He represents that illusive blend of the old-world cowboy combined with the refined international touring artist. His music has worldwide appeal, as does his warm, strong and gentlemanly nature.
