17.01.2022 Some of you may be aware that PWS has a RED 25 Group registered with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (now known as Lifeblood). Every 2 weeks I now give... a donation. At first I was only able to give Plasma due to a travel restriction I had in place. That has now been lifted and Im now regularly donating Platelets. My reason for donating was strengthened after my recent donation 2 weeks ago when I received an SMS update from Lifeblood letting me know that my donation had been used to save a life at the Royal Childrens Hospital. To know that I have potentially saved, or at worst enriched, the life of a child in need is an amazing feeling. Every 2 weeks, I sit in the donation centre, watching a Netflix episode or watching a game of NFL or chatting to the staff and other donators and give a little bit of my time and myself to help improve the wellbeing of others. I have no doubt that the family of the child that received my donation may not have given any thought to where or from whom the donation was from AND nor should they. They have far bigger issues to worry about. The only thing that matters is that the donation was there, when needed and, I hope, it did what it was intended to do. Save a life. From time to time Lifeblood undertake Industry specific challenges with 2 of the most recent being the Health Services & Councils Blood Challenge. The City of Greater Geelong & Barwon Health claimed top spot in each of their respective challenges. Now its time for the Financial Services Sector of which we are a participant. My challenge to all Staff, our families and our wider PWS friends is: GET INVOLVED.. From the 1st Dec 2019 to the 29th Feb 2020 I challenge all of you to give as much as you can! Make as much of a difference as you can for those in need. It doesnt matter where we place, lets just make a difference. The blood we donate can be made into 22 different medical treatments. PWS currently have 5 members registered in our RED 25 group. If we all donate every 2 weeks through out the challenge, the 5 of us have the potential to donate 35 times (5 x 7 donations). The number of lives enriched through those donations of Plasma or Platelets could be as high as 770. 7 donations of Plasma will take around 10 hours of our time over the next 3 months but we could be giving some one the rest of their life. In conjunction with Cornwalls Solicitors the team took part in the Sunset Series Zoo Run. 8 staff along with a num...ber of clients ran in the 4.8 km and 8 km runs. The best performer for the day was Damien from our finance team who completed the 4.8Kms with a time of 20.32 AND 13TH overall. The highlight of the night was running amongst the local inhabitants.
