25.01.2022 The combustion of natural gas is now the fastest growing source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, the most important greenhouse gas driving climate change. "On a decadal time frame, methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide. "In Australia, the rapid rise in methane emissions is due to the expansion of the natural gas industry. The rate of methane leakage from the full gas economy, from exploration through to end use, has far exceeded earlier estimate...s. https://www.smh.com.au//australia-s-chief-scientist-is-wro

22.01.2022 This looks very useful and interesting.
22.01.2022 A beautiful poem about care of the earth from Bruce Pascoe
21.01.2022 It says renewable energy may at times provide nearly 90% of electricity by 2035, the amount of gas-fired power will fall as pumped hydro and batteries come online and there is no place for new coal-fired generation.
21.01.2022 As we work together to let the Bank of India (who wants to fund Adani) know that Australians don't support the Carmichael mine let's remember the people of Godda where the coal from our country would be burned.. How they are already suffering through the land grabbing for the building of the power plant and how much worse it will get if the project goes ahead in Australia. There is simply no sensible justification. Hear their voices.

20.01.2022 BREAKING: The Queensland Government has just announced a $500 million Renewable Energy Fund for publicly owned renewables! This is a BIG win for the Sunshi...ne State! More state-owned solar and wind energy assets will bring profits back to Queenslanders, open up new industries, and create thousands of jobs. 20.01.2022 An energy debate on TONIGHT between the Energy Minister and Opposition here in Queensland. Tune in if you can!
20.01.2022 Today, ten people of faith stood peacefully, actively, in the way of Aurizon's fossil fuelled business as usual. Aurizon transports 250 Million tonnes of coal a...nnually, and their 'Sustainability Report' mentions that they plan to increase this part of their business. In our discussions with them they won't acknowledge the environmental destruction they are supporting, so this morning, members of Faith in Climate Action blocked the entrances to their office, as a symbolic way of standing in the way of an enterprise that is destroying our planet, and politely suggesting to their employees that they might like to find a more ethical business to work for. 20.01.2022 He said he believed he was acting in the best interests of Australia by transitioning away from thermal coal. "Weve made a strategic decision from a banking perspective to tilt our business towards renewables," Mr McEwan said. "Just as in our financing of aircraft we have tilted towards lower-emission aircraft which are much more efficient.... "Just as we are working with the agricultural sector to get much, much more efficient and carbon neutral in the production of meat, so its just not one industry. "Were working across the industries to get a better result for, coming back to your point, for Australia. "Its why were moving ourselves as a bank to be carbon neutral over a number of years, because we think these things will make a lot of sense financially for us and for our customers over time." The world is slowly undergoing an energy transition away from coal-fired power towards renewables and other forms of energy. This nations companies are following suit. https://www.abc.net.au//craig-kelly-asks-nab-boss/12659048
19.01.2022 This discussion about Australias economy makes very interesting points about the paucity of jobs actually available in the coal industry and how the coal industry has sold itself into Australians minds as essential to the economy.
19.01.2022 Hi friends, Theres a terrific series starting on ABC TV this Tues at 8:30 - Fight for Planet A. It looks to be - fun, informative, incredibly important and has a really good chance at reaching middle Australia in the same way that War on Waste was viewed by several million Australians and led to a big slab of people actually changing their behaviour! ... It links in really well with Living the Change. Fight for Planet A begins this Tuesday 11th at 8:30pm and runs for 2 more Tuesdays (18th & 25th) and then of course on iview. Could I encourage you to promote this far and wide! Go well, Mark https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=609092879744488
15.01.2022 This astoundling line-up of speakers are addressing topics that could help us see the kind of world that would not exacerbate climate change, post-COVID-19. It starts Sunday night 28th June, Australian time.
13.01.2022 The more you learn about Adani the less sense it makes. "Adani and its supporters argue that the project has a noble, humanitarian purpose because it will be supplying electricity to Bangladesh, one of the worlds poorest nations, thus enriching the lives of its citizens. That proposition is utterly rejected by critics who argue the electricity will be expensive far higher than Bangladesh would pay if it simply purchased electricity from India on the open market.... "The contract is costs plus, plus, plus," says Tim Buckley, the head of energy research at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis, a think tank that supports a transition to clean energy. "Adani is able to pass through the costs of expensive coal from Australia, infrastructure and transport to the price. "It will be delivering power at about double the normal price and triple the current price that they [Bangladesh] could have bought it for wholesale on the Indian power market.""
13.01.2022 Science has uncovered indisputable evidence that the level of our oceans is rising. This is the result of a sudden and unexpected increase in our planets northern temperatures. Ice masses are melting rapidly away. If the rate of thawing continues, civilisation near the sea may be submerged and profound changes be wrought in climate, soil, sea and the race itself. The whole face of the earth may be moving towards a vast transformation. Thats quite an opening paragraph, but its not mine. It belongs a story titled Sea Levels Rising published in the Central Queensland Herald on Thursday. Thursday 30 September 1948.
12.01.2022 I actually believe that even relatively small actions by individuals can have a positive impact on climate policy and climate change, and that even if there wasnt much impact I feel like it would be just the right thing to do before God,

09.01.2022 BREAKING! State Bank of India is considering giving Adani a $1 billion loan for their climate-cooking Carmichael coal project. This loan MUST be stopped. 07.01.2022 "This piece of research looks specifically at Queensland and the number of breakdowns in the coal and gas-fired power stations that keep the lights on in in the Sunshine State," Mr Merzian said. "What it found is that in total Queensland has the highest number of breakdowns for gas and coal-fired power stations than any other state in the electricity market. "So, despite having some of the newest coal-fired power stations, what are called "supercritical" coal-fired power stat...ions, it hasnt helped in terms of that consistent performance. "If anything its actually led to a greater number of breakdowns." He said it raised questions about whether another supercritical power station should be built in Collinsville in Queensland. "It throws up the question of whether coal is the most suitable, or whether we should be looking at more diversified energy sources, like in renewables. "The other question that comes into play is cost. "We know that renewable energy is cheaper to build, even with six hours of backup storage tacked on to it its cheaper to build than coal by about 30 per cent. "That might explain why the market has only built renewable tin the last decade," Mer Merzian said. https://www.abc.net.au//qld-gas-coal-fired-power-/12635652

06.01.2022 https://www.abc.net.au//adani-coal-mine-abbot-poi/12644432 The Adani group has launched its own rail business to haul coal to its Queensland port, while avoiding any public mention of the parent company or the controversial Carmichael mine. Adanis apparent move to go it alone on coal haulage will add $200 million to the upfront cost of its Queensland project, according to one energy analyst.
06.01.2022 BREAKING: Today, Wangan and Jagalingou senior cultural leader Adrian Burragubba has issued Adani an eviction notice at their offices in Brisbane. It is our dut...y as Wangan and Jagalingou Tribal people to resist destructive industries that seek to destroy our land and water and interfere with our ancient law and custom. Adani Australia is in clear violation of our sovereignty and territorial integrity by occupying our Tribal lands. This is our home, and we will defend our Country #StandingOurGround #EvictAdani

04.01.2022 This is interesting.
03.01.2022 This is huge. 1. Adani has been forced to self-haul its coal, potentially adding hundreds of millions of dollars to the capital cost of the mine and rail projec...t. 2. Adanis Bowen Rail Company is owned by Adani Ports, which recently received a major boost from international investors, leaving these investors now at risk of having funded the Carmichael mega-mine. Were going to make sure that Adani Ports investors are aware that its more likely than ever that finance for any Adani Group company could be funneled into funding Adanis climate-wrecking coal mine. Find out more and take action: https://www.marketforces.org.au/adani-forced-to-haul-its-o/ #StopAdani
03.01.2022 DOUBLE WIN! After just 24 hours of pressure, HDI/Talanx and Liberty Mutual Insurance have both walked away from insuring Adanis coal project! People power ...is making Adanis climate-wrecking coal mine uninsurable! 16 major insurance companies have now ruled out work with Adanis toxic brand. Lets keep the pressure on so insurer Aspen Re and insurance broker Marsh choose people and the climate over Adanis disastrous coal mine too! See more
