24.01.2022 A message from QCA Director, Professor Elisabeth Findlay. The Queensland College of Art is among many areas of the University to have some proposed changes to course and program offerings. The QCA remains committed to offering students a dynamic contemporary arts education across a broad range of disciplines. ... There is no proposal to discontinue our commitment to studio-based learning. The QCA will continue to provide studio-based learning in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installation and performance and will expand its strengths in visual communication design, interior and spatial design, product design, immersive design and interaction design. The QCA will continue to be one of the largest and most comprehensive art and design colleges in the country. Students who are currently enrolled in degrees at the QCA will all be able to continue in their programs. Griffith’s commitment to the arts is also supported by its investment across the Creative Arts, along with our collaborations with a number of cultural organisations and festivals. In line with most other universities, Griffith has experienced a sharp downturn in revenue due to the loss of international students. The loss of our international students is also being felt by the QCA. The University is expecting a $700m shortfall in revenue between now and 2025. The University is consulting with staff, students and stakeholders on the proposed changes and no decisions have been made. I look forward to being able to meet with students next week to talk to them about the proposed changes to some areas of the QCA and discuss any feedback or concerns. Professor Elisabeth Findlay Director Queensland College of Art
