19.01.2022 Sunny Street clinicians reach out to provide outreach healthcare to people living on the streets. People feeling vulnerable. People needing help in some aspect of their lives. Its worth keeping in mind that we all need help at some point in our lives, and were all in this together Homelessness is quite often hidden from view, and communities can be unaware that individuals and families are sleeping rough. Homelessness is sleeping rough, couch surfing, living in temporary... or shared/overcrowded dwellings, or having a home where the tenure is not secure. In Australia, 1.2 million people live in poverty, with over 700,000 of these people being children It is important to recognise when you might be on the presence of someones camp or space. Look for bedding including sleeping bags, trolleys or blankets, food present, personal belongings and clothing. Be respectful of individuals. Be kind. If its safe, say hello and ask how they are. A conversation can make all the difference to someone feeling vulnerable and/or lonely. Can you offer a donation of food, or a good hot cup of coffee? Pet food for the animal by their side? If you feel an individual needs more assistance, you can ask their permission to link them into local services or the local community centre. Connection and kindness is everything. We never know how hard anyones life is. If you have a decision to make around engaging a vulnerable community member, start with being kind

12.01.2022 Theres something incredibly uplifting about working with kids! Today at Peregian Springs State School we were lucky enough to be part of their entrepreneurship festival. With ideas ranging from the wild and wacky to practical, economic solutions for current problems, and LEGO robots solving Rubiks cubes to electromagnetic boots, what we loved was the give it a go attitude from kids willing to think outside the box. 2020 has been strange to say the least but seeing kids unfazed by new normals and uncertainty about whats next, reminds us that inspiration and innovation can truly happen anywhere, anytime!

To understand the barriers further we ask the question: How do you get the healthcare you need if you have very little money, no access to transport, anxiety about attending mainstream healthcare facilities, no family support, low health literacy, confusion around navigating the healthcare system, and nowhere to sleep at night? These are the limiting barr...iers some Aussies come up against when trying to access the healthcare they need. At Sunny Street, its important that our teams take the time to have a conversation, meeting people where they are at in their healthcare journey. We, as human beings, all carry a lifetime of stories along with us. At Sunny Street, our role is to understand someone elses journey, give reassurance, provide primary healthcare in a psychologically safe space, and assist people to navigate and remain in control of their own healthcare choices.
