25.01.2022 WISHING EVERYONE A SAFE AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR. It's time for us to put our feet up! Qcity Podiatry and Healthcare is closed for the Christmas/New Year break and we will reopen on Monday 6 January 2020. We hope you enjoy your celebrations with family and friends and that you remain safe from the bushfires which continue to burn and give our wonderful RFS such a difficult and exhausting time. Let's hope we get some steady and much needed rain early in 2020!

24.01.2022 INTRODUCING AUSTRALIA'S FIRST PRIVATE HIGH RISK FOOT CLINIC This week we are introducing Australia's first private High Risk Foot Clinic. Details are on our website and Allan is putting more information together but it's now here! Our region in NSW doesn't have a publicly funded High Risk Foot Service at this time and our level of expertise and experience is of such a high degree, it was time we offered this service. We need to stop the increasing level of amputations due to ...diabetic foot ulcers which is a major health issue in Australia. Last year we approached the state government with a proposal in assisting us in funding in this area but unfortunately John Barilaro, our local member, did not take up our offer to discuss the HRFC. Allan won an Innovation Tank award from Wounds Australia at their National Conference two years ago which enabled us to complete a small study of diabetic foot ulcers and the effect his design had on the rate of healing and remission. It has been very successful with all ulcers moving into remission. One of the major issues is keeping them there, however we are working on that as well. This is just the first step in our private High Risk Foot Clinic and further developments will continue.

24.01.2022 Due to Tracy's commitments with ACT Health, she will no longer be able to work at Qcity Podiatry and Healthcare. However, Tracy will still be working in Queanbeyan and will be based at Entire Physio, 1/59 Cooma Street, Queanbeyan every second Friday. Please phone Entire Physio to make an appointment with Tracy on 02 6299 5183. As Tracy needed a Friday for appointments and we are not open on Fridays, unfortunately we couldn't accommodate her. However, we are hoping that she will come back to work with us in the future should her ACT Health commitments change.

21.01.2022 Our new podiatrist, Karly Geddes, has now started with us and she is a delight. Karly is enthusiastic and keen to provide a service which complements Allan's. Karly and Allan will be attending the Diabetic Foot Conference in Brisbane later this year to continue their education and knowledge in the treatment of high risk feet.

20.01.2022 ALLAN ON 2CC's SUNDAY ROAST PROGRAM TODAY Allan will join Ian Meikle and Rod Henshaw today on 2CC Canberra radio - 1206 on the AM band - at 10:00am to speak on Diabetic Foot Disease and the Innovation Tank Award that he won at the National Wounds Australia Conference in November 2018. This enabled Allan to develop further his innovative concept in treating diabetic foot ulcers and conduct a proof of concept study.

20.01.2022 COVID-19 PANDEMIC The COVID-19 pandemic is causing significant worry across the community and we find ourselves in uncertain times with no definite end in sight. As the advice around the pandemic is rapidly evolving, we are adapting to ensure we can continue providing the best possible service to you while reducing the risk of transmission as the outbreak widens. Cleanliness and disinfection in our clinic continues to be a priority and whilst maintaining this regime, we wil...l also introduce a few new measures to try and protect everyone who comes through our door. We ask that you please help us in this regard as maintaining the health and welfare of our patients, family members, carers, as well as ourselves, is our number one priority. For now we will be introducing a few changes to help maintain social distancing as much as we can, and reduce the time you need to spend in the clinic. These measures may need to be updated as the situation evolves. Therefore we ask that: If you are unwell or experiencing any signs of fever, sore throat, fatigue or coughing, are in self isolation or live with someone awaiting Covid-19 testing results, please DO NOT come in to the clinic, but call to rebook your appointment at another time. If you are well please help us to maintain social distancing by: * Keeping a distance of 1.5m between yourself, other patients and reception staff. * As much as possible stand back from the front counter to maintain this distance, and while waiting please make use of the waiting room chairs. We generally never have a full waiting room as our appointments run between 20 minutes to an hour so the waiting room does not get that busy. That said, if you arrive a few minutes early, it would be appreciated if you could settle your account before going in to your appointment as quite often there can be two or three people/groups waiting at the end of the half or full hour. You are then able to leave as soon as your appointment is finished and reduce the time you spend in the waiting room. * If you need to cough or sneeze, please cover your mouth and nose with your elbow and please refrain from wiping your hands on anything. * We understand that you need to bring family members, a friend or carer with you into the clinic. However, if you can all keep together as much as possible, that would be appreciated. Please do not let your children run around in the waiting room. * Please don’t be offended if we ask you to step back a little or refuse a handshake. While these measures are unusual for all of us, we feel it is our responsibility to be mindful of reducing the risk of transmission as much as we possibly can. We sincerely appreciate your understanding of these new measures and we especially want everyone to remain healthy and safe during this time of change and uncertainty.

20.01.2022 EXCITING NEWS FOR QCP Qcity Podiatry and Healthcare has been added to the Australian Directory for High Risk Foot and Podiatry Services open during Covid-19. We are now "on the map", so to speak, on the Diabetes Australia, National Diabetes Services Scheme website. The link to see us is https://nadc.net.au/footforward/hrfs-clinic-list/.... Unfortunately our letter to John Barilaro outlining the need for a specific patient funded High Risk Foot Clinic in our region for those who need to access ongong podiatry services to assist in healing their foot ulcers, was not answered. We now feel that any form of State government funding for these vulnerable patients is not going to happen and the likelihood is high of those patients being included in the many thousands who undergo amputations each year in Australia. Consequently, we are moving forward with a Private High Risk Foot Clinic for those who can afford it and will be setting this up in the latter part of the year.

16.01.2022 We would like to let everyone know that we will be closed for two weeks starting 11 February and will reopen Monday 25 February. Allan is heading to Tasmania for a well-earned holiday, although his original aim of climbing Federation Peak has had to change due to the continuing bushfires in that state. Consequently, he and his friend Mick, will be doing other walks in areas not affected by the fires.

07.01.2022 Just to let you know that we are closed Thursday afternoon (tomorrow) from 1pm, 16 January 2020.

06.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE We have been advised that podiatry services are considered an essential service and are not required to shut down as part of the government closure of non-essential services. We want to continue providing podiatry and diabetes services but need to work out the best plan for all concerned (our patients, our family and our practitioners). That said, we will be changing the days we work in the clinic until the Covid-19 pandemic is over and things return to normal.... We have reduced our days and hours so are now working one or two full days and one or two mornings each week. There are no set days between Monday and Thursday but we are closed on Fridays. The other day we are closed is dependent on current bookings during that week. It is a bit of a juggling act but remaining flexible seems to be the key. As time progresses, we will get used to the changes and it will become more routine. Many of you know that Allan and I have a school-age child, Meg, who is in Year 8 and currently doing her school work online. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused but we wish to remain open whilst still supporting all our patients and our family.

03.01.2022 We would like to advise everyone that we have some changed times for September which are: Wednesday 4th - Closed from 12:30pm Monday 9th, Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th - Closed... Friday 13th - Open Monday 30th - Closed Many thanks and apologies for the inconvenience. Cheers - Jane

03.01.2022 REDUCED DAYS AND HOURS As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, I will be posting our days and hours here for a period of two weeks and updating frequently. We have had to reduce our days and hours to accommodate appointments but there are no set days or times. We are continuing to welcome new patients during this time. Friday 1 May - Closed... Monday 4 May - 8:30am - 1:30pm Tuesday 5 May - 8:30am - 4:30pm Wednesday 6 May - 8:30am - 4:30pm Thursday 7 May - 8:30am - 4:30pm Friday 8 May - Closed Monday 11 May - 8:30am - 4:30pm Tuesday 12 May - 8:30am - 4:30pm Wednesday 13 May - 8:30am - 1:00pm Thursday 14 May - 8:30am - 1:00pm Friday 15 May - Closed

02.01.2022 BACK TO NORMAL .... MORE OR LESS Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, March and April were very slow for us. Also, very sadly, Karly has left us to move to Rockhampton to take up a position as a podiatrist with Queensland Health. Consequently, for the time being, Allan is managing both his own and Karly's patients so our books are now becoming full again. This is also due to the relaxation of some of the lock-down restrictions. It is likely that we are fully booked for one to two we...eks in advance, so please bear this in mind when you wish to make an appointment. We are able to put you on a wait-list as well in case something earlier comes up. We are now open our normal hours again and will be from now on but are hoping to fill Karly's position in the next few months. Our days and hours are as follows: Monday to Thursday 8:30am - 4:30pm Friday Closed
