23.01.2022 * * * OFF SHE GOES * * * It seems like 100 years ago when we first brought 3620 down from Cairns. But it was only 7 months ago, apparently. In those 7 months our team have worked tirelessly on her, and today she took to the rails for the first time in years.

23.01.2022 Today is the #PloverAppreciationDay! A day to celebrate and raise awareness of all things plover! Plovers are ground nesting birds that live on beaches, la...kes shores, wetlands and grasslands. Unfortunately many species are also highly threatened, largely because we humans also love to hang out on their beachfront homes. In this picture we see the beautiful Hooded Plovers. They are listed as VULNERABLE, there are less than 600 Hooded Plovers left in Victoria. Hooded Plovers are on of the most threatened beach-nesting birds. Hooded Plovers eat marine snails, worms, sandhoppers, seeds and water plants. They breed from September to March. Eggs are laid in a shallow nest above the high-tide line and both parents look after the eggs and chicks. When dogs chase birds, they will abandon nests, thats why its so important to keep dogs on leash. Photo: Cassy Twomey

11.01.2022 If you havent heard, playgrounds in the Borough are reopening next week great news for kids whove already climbed over and under every inch of their backy...ard during lockdown! But a reminder: we all must take the necessary safety precautions when using these playgrounds to keep everyone safe. As of 11:59pm on Sunday 13 September, playgrounds will reopen to the public in line with the Second Step of restrictions on Regional Victorias COVID-19 roadmap. Users of our playgrounds are reminded to practice physical distancing at all times, not to gather in groups, and to continue to wear a mask and practice good hand hygiene. Playground equipment surfaces are not routinely cleaned, so its a good idea to sanitise your hands before and after use. 10.01.2022 2 Hooded Plover chicks have hatched at the end of the Ocean Grove Spit. This is great news for this threatened species! A Temporary Exclusion Zone is in plac...e from 19W- 20W. As you can see they're hard for you to spot when on the beach. But your dog can! Please use the internal pathway rather than walk on this section of beach. This gives these precious chicks the chance to feed and grow without disturbance.

06.01.2022 Plovers are a diverse bunch that come in all shapes and sizes. Some of our plovers are seasonal visitors, flying from far flung corners of the world each year, ...and others are residents that live here all year round. They are ground nesters, and their nest is a shallow scrape in the open ground! Some of them are our familiar urban neighbours and others are shy and endangered beach nesters. And yes! Were including lapwings and dotterels! The family Charadriidae includes two subfamilies, Charadriinae (plovers + dotterels) and Vanellinae (lapwings). So you could think of it as if plovers and dotterels are like siblings and lapwings are their cousins. To honour all plovers of Australia, well share with you some fun facts of all species we can find here. Well start with our resident plovers! Scroll through to learn about each one of them. #PloverAppreciationDay #LoveAPlover BirdLife Australia Threatened Species Commissioner

04.01.2022 The Brisbane Ranges National Park really is a hidden gem. Located near Anakie, this spectacular park is well worth a visit for a day or an extended camping or h...iking trip. If wildflowers are your thing, a visit in Spring is highly recommended. We completed the 12km Ted Ellery hike, which also takes in the Anakie Gorge Walk. The views from the rim across the park were breathtaking, while the gorge walk featured rock hopping and opportunities to explore the history of this area. Well be back soon! See more

02.01.2022 I just became aware that many new people to the area may not know any of the following information.

01.01.2022 Things are opening up more thanks to all the hard work everyone has done. While it is good to breath the air with out a mask there are still times when we must ...mask up. To pinch a line from the Premier, Dan Andrews; "We’re also changing the rules around masks. They’ll still be mandatory indoors and on PT but you won’t need one outside, so long as you’re able to keep a safe distance from others. To put it into context, that means wearing a mask if you’re at a busy outdoor market or event but not if you’re out walking the dog. You'll need to carry a mask at all times for when it's required." So please wear your mask in the market area. This week at the market we have Bellbrae Organics, Geelong Region Olives, Otway Prime, Hidden Secret Cakes, A Hidden Secret - Fine Vegetarian Food, Jennings Honey, Kinsfolk Farm, Manuko, Fromage and Legumes, D'SAS WINES, Frank the Green Grocer, Go with the Flow Crepes and Coffee, Green Me Up Scotty, Sourdough Kitchen Seddon, Mr Sharp Knife Sharpening, The Fresh Seafood Lady, Salami Shack, Moorish Preserves and Spices, Lions Christmas Cakes, Berriworx, Leigh River Roses, Seeds of Time, Primal Alternative by Natasha, Taste of Tibet, Giant Springs, Annette's Kitchen, Pero's Wines, Mildura Farms and Citizen Kanine. The forecast is looking good for a market in the morning and beach in the afternoon. Our opening hours are 8.30 am to 1.00 pm See you Saturday. David See more

01.01.2022 2021 QRR Cancelled Geelong Street Rodders have been holding off on a final decision on the hosting of Queenscliff Rod Run 2021 in the hope it could proceed, pen...ding further announcements on Covid-19 restrictions. With the large number of entrants anticipated, based on recent events, it is felt that restrictions on public gathering numbers will not allow any of our activities associated with QRR to safely proceed. The uncertainty of restrictions easing over the next 2 months to the point of an event the size of QRR proceeding under normal circumstances would seem to be highly unlikely & makes any planning extremely difficult, so unfortunately the decision has been made to cancel Queenscliff Rod Run 2021. We look forward to seeing everyone again at Queenscliff Rod Run 2022, when hopefully the rodding world is back to some kind of normal, similar to pre-Covid times.
