World Acupuncture Day (WAD) was celebrated in Paris on the 15th November 2018 by the international acupuncture and moxibustion community.... World Acupuncture Day was organized to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the inscription of acupuncture and moxibustion, in November 2010, into the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This one-day event, organized under the patronage of UNESCO and the WHO which took place at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, brought together practitioners, researchers, politicians, academics, and administrators of all disciplines related to acupuncture and moxibustion to share their knowledge and experience. World Acupuncture Day demonstrated to the world that acupuncture and moxibustion are today used globally as an integral part of the worlds health systems. *This photo depicts a particular special technique in Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture that applies acupuncture in combination with direct moxibustion (direct moxibustion- burning of the herb Artemisia/Moxa with a base of red coloured herbal ointment to conduct heat into the acupuncture point). The acupuncture point, SI 11, on the back of the scapula, is being needled with the "surround the dragon" technique to reduce the hardness and tenderness in that region, which has many powerful clinical effects.

16.01.2022 Looking back one month ago, Im wanting to take a moment to acknowledge the 20 attendees of TWOMNSS 2019 Part 4 with Tsuyoshi Shimamura , who made the amazing effort of treating 450 patients from the Brisbane area over 3 days(out of the 5 day retreat) on the 21st-23rd Feb under the guidance of Tsuyoshi Shimamura Sensei for the final step in their training with this wonderful, knowledgeable and humble teacher. It was a first in Australian acupuncture seminar history where we ...had seen so many volunteers be treated by attendees for a seminar- we had many practitioners come through the doors to get well-deserved treatments as well as patients from local clinics, and the families and friends of those patients. It was a great service to the people of Brisbane (and beyond), and a great testament to the power of acupuncture- we had so much excellent feedback regarding their treatment results from our volunteer patients. Whats even better is the whole thing ran like clockwork. Not only did our attendees treat all these patients(that they took great effort in booking in during the months prior to the event), but they also went from 8am-10pm each day with lectures, practical exercises, and challenges, such as treating fellow attendees blindfolded. The presenters are absolute task masters, and everyone rose to the challenge. I just want to say how impressed I am with all of our attendees, and provide them with the recognition they deserve for the strength of character they displayed, their resilience, excellent clinical skills, and professional conduct. I look forward to seeing you all again sometime in the not too distant future. This is an example of the great stuff a small group of people can do in our profession.
