23.01.2022 Hot To Trot review by Len Powers for Canberra Critics Circle "Once again this year, these young choreographers demonstrated strong imagination and skill in developing and producing the dances presented. All of the works were of a consistently high standard in terms of concept and execution." http://ccc-canberracriticscircle.blogspot.com/

22.01.2022 QUANTUM LEAPER FEATURE: Daniel Riley! QL: 1999 (Rough Cuts, the first Boys Dance Project)-2003. "My formative time and experience being apart of Quantum Leap/QL2 was important in developing my sense of self, my artistic self but more importantly, it was hugely important in helping to shape the human I have become. It laid a strong groundwork in creative and collaborative thinking that I have carried through my career to date. I made life long friendships and connections dur...ing those long rehearsals in what was then, and to me will always be called ’The Hatchery’. These relationships have continued to shape the artist I have become, and continue to be very special people in my life. The collaborative environment, lateral thinking and artistic view of the world at large are all the important pillars of youth dance. An experience that can’t be replicated in other training studio environments. For these reasons, I hold QL2 very close, and will continue to advocate for its success as best as I can." Daniel is an Indigenous choreographer whose bloodline runs through the Wiradjuri clan of Western NSW. He is a graduate of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and has danced for Leigh Warren & Dancers, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Fabulous Beast and more. He is also a highly respected choreographer. Image by Tiffany Parker#quantumleaperfeature #ql2alumni #wherearetheynow #onceaquantumleaperalwaysaquantumleaper

22.01.2022 HotToTrot 2020: 'Describe The Shape of T at The Beginning of The' by Lillian Cook This piece aims to recreate the process of learning and observation. This is expressed through focus. I wish to transform the stage into a form of puzzle, where the audience is invited to draw lines between seemingly unrelated thoughts, feelings and mediums. My motive is to stimulate curiosity in the audience to attain a greater understanding of experience beyond our personal senses. 19.01.2022 HotToTrot 2020: 'Circle: Complete' by Sarah Long Circle: Complete follows four people on their own individual exploration of the Hero's Journey. Following three overarching stages and twelve smaller stages within, the Hero's Journey is a common trope found in a lot of popular media. This exploration focuses on the final three stages, crafted collaboratively with the dancers. 18.01.2022 QUANTUM LEAPER FEATURE: Alana Stenning! QL: 2010-2014 The experience and professionalism I learnt at QL2 has always been really valuable in my career, but the thing I love and appreciate that most that QL2 gave me was the friendships, connections and sense of family. It’s never just been a place to come to and kick a leg, it’s like a second home.... Alana was a Quantum Leaper between 2010-2014. Afterwards she choreographed and performed in two On Courses seasons while studying at the Adelaide College of the Arts as well as seconding in a Playhouse season in 2016. Alana joined the team as a teacher, choreographer, assistant to the director and mentor in 2018 - current. She is also a current party artist with the Australian Dance Party. #quantumleaperfeature #ql2alumni #wherearetheynow #onceaquantumleaperalwaysaquantumleaper

08.01.2022 HotToTrot 2020: 'I knew you'd come back to me' by Hollie Knowles. "The sun drenched month of August, slipped away like a bottle of wine. Lovestruck kids wandering up and down the evergreen High Line. A 17 yrs-old standing on a porch, leaning to apologise." The dynamics of a love triangle can be intricate and complex. Pulling inspiration from 3 songs on Taylor Swift's latest album 'Folklore' myself and the dancers created characters and an intertwining story line that explore...s the highs and lows of being in love with the same person. 05.01.2022 QUANTUM LEAPER FEATURE: Nasim Patel! QL: 2012-15 QL2 gave me the opportunity and facilities to express my creativity from a young age. The range of professional artists I worked with during my time in the company, coupled with the opportunity to experiment and create my own work provided me with strong foundations for an artistic practice. I have carried the techniques and methods of creating that I learned from these experiences through my artistic career so far, and the...y grow as I do. I feel fortunate that I was given the chance to plant these seeds of artistic practice and process at a young age. I clearly remember my first experience as a part of the Quantum Leap ensemble working with choreographer Matt Cornell. The professional environment facilitated by both him and QL2 was unfamiliar to me at first, but I eventually recognised it as a beautiful means to allow us to contribute and share ideas. It was a place to discuss, express, make mistakes, have them be appreciated, and be taught how to learn from them. QL2 gives young people a space to express themselves and experiment with their voice. Without those opportunities, I don’t think I would have my current interest in exploring my own identity and trying to understand how other people engage with their own. Nasim first started in our training program in 2010, and between 2012 and 2015 took part in every Chaos, Quantum Leap, and Hot to Trot project. In 2016 and 2017, they created and performed in works for On Course. Nasim is Birrarunga (Melbourne) based artist graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) in 2018. Nasim is currently working on a hip hop/spoken word EP with musician (and brother) Hanif Patel. The content of the EP encompasses growing up with mixed race heritage in conflicting settings. They began looking at this subject in 2017 at On Course, with the solo work ‘a lecture?: questioning importance’.
