23.01.2022 Emergency services were called to the site, about 4.5 kilometres from the Leigh Creek Airport, at about 6:30pm on Saturday. Police have confirmed the 59-year-old male pilot and a 48-year-old female passenger, both from Queensland, were killed in the crash. The man was from Greymare in the Southern Downs region and the woman was from the Brisbane suburb of Wynnum. Police said the Brumby 610 aircraft had left William Creek Airport at about 4:00pm and crashed into scrubland on i...ts approach to Leigh Creek Airport. A temporary air exclusion zone with a one-kilometre radius has been established around the scene. Leigh Creek is about 540 kilometres north of Adelaide. Specialist crash investigators from Recreational Aviation Australia, as well as police, have made their way to the site this morning. Local caravan park manager Peter Thompson was at a campsite when he spotted a plane in the sky shortly before the crash. "We saw a green light, assuming it was the wing of a plane, to the north of Leigh Creek," he said. "It turned and headed back towards Leigh Creek, then it turned again to head to the airport. Brumby aircraft are manufactured in Cowra in New South Wales. A report is being prepared for the state coroner.

16.01.2022 CH 7 news report. Thank you Debbie. Beautiful words said by one of Rachels close friends Debbie Louise. Her legacy will live on in our hearts and as we go about our daily lives helping others. Still hard to comprehend that I won’t be getting a call/text or seeing her again. I was richer for knowing Rachel Whitford and among other things, being part of her team on the PCYC committee. The example she set, combined with her passion for the Logan community, was a driving force behind why I retrained and ended up teaching in Logan myself. Sometimes life just doesn’t seem fair or balanced at all. Rachel really was a caring and genuine friend with a beautiful soul - so rare, she will never be replaced or forgotten
