11.01.2022 From delivering mail by air to remote Queensland towns to becoming one of the world's most trusted airlines, 100 years of Qantas is a celebration of Queensland ...innovation. Founded in Winton, Central Western Queensland on 16 November 1920, the iconic airline celebrates its centenary today. Recently digitised in the John Oxley Library collection is this photograph album documenting the visit of Imperial Airways aeroplane 'Astraea' G-ABTL to Brisbane in June 1933. This arrival was significant as it led to a partnership between Qantas and Imperial Airways to form Qantas Empire Airways, and was the beginning of Qantas becoming an international airline. In what's been a turbulent year for the aviation industry the spirit of Qantas endures. Happy 100th birthday to the 'Flying Kangaroo'!
