24.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, QBA President Rob Dewar and our State Secretary Jo Martin were interviewed about the recent commitment made by the Palaszczuk Government to extend the beekeeping industry’s access to apiary sites within Queensland National Parks for a further 20 years. A commitment that arrived at a time of growing uncertainty and anxiety about the future of our industry in Queensland. The QBA welcomes this commitment, and is optimistic about seeing a legislated change ...enacted as soon as possible. We would also like to recognise the contributions and efforts of past and present QBA Management Committees in seeing change to the exclusion laws. We hold great enthusiasm about a bright future for our industry and will continue our important work liaising with the State Government, the First Nations People and other stakeholders to protect, preserve and promote our beautiful native forests. Please see a link to the story below. Please continue to share our posts with friends and family. 24.01.2022 The current drought is a long way from over for the Queensland Beekeeping industry. Sadly, even once the rains begin to fall again and the landscape undergoes colourful changes, our honey bees will still have a battle ahead for survival for many years. Many species of eucalyptus will take a minimum of 12-18months to recover after the stressors of drought. ... Hive Aid from Rural Aid is a great way to support our hard working beekeepers. Thankfully we’ve had a great season pollinating Australian Almonds and many bees have benefited from access to flowering canola crops. Sadly, the ongoing prospects for resource do look limited, until such time as we begin to see regular rainfall events. We can’t wait for spring, and the return of summer storms to pump some moisture back into the country. #healthybeesneedhealthytrees #beesneedtrees #qbabees #australianbeekeeping #australianhoneybees #australianhoney #queenslandbeekeeping #beekeepers

14.01.2022 Today marks the final day of National Pollinator Week and we'd like to share this great reminder about protecting our precious honey bees from exotic pests and disease. Protecting the health of our industry is critical to our survival. Not only is it critical to our ability to continue to produce world-class honey, but it is also vital to the produce we consume and our general way of life. Biosecurity is everyone's responsibility. No matter if you're a beekeeper, a keen gar...dener, or someone who simply enjoys our beautiful natural environment. Today, we're asking Australians if you see a suspect insect, report it. As with the health pandemic, we hear messages about finding the first cast of COVID-19, not case number 40. The story is much the same when it comes to exotic pests and disease, we'd much rather detect the first exotic pest rather than the 40th. So if you see something suspicious, report it. Beekeepers and members of the public are encouraged to call the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries on 13 25 23, or contact the National Exotic Pest Hotline on 1800 084 881. We'd like to thank the Biosecurity Queensland team in Townsville for their ongoing efforts and their passion to ensure Australia remains free of Varroa mite. #healthybeesneedhealthytrees #qbabees #qldbeekeeping #queenslandbeekeepers #beesecurityisfoodsecurity #eatqld

10.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of National Pollinator Week. This week is all about recognising the critical role of our essential pollinators. Our honey bee industry has endured some of the most challenging conditions over the past few years. Between what seems like a never ending drought to devastating bushfires, our beekeepers have worked tirelessly to keep colonies alive. Sadly, the situation is vastly different here in Queensland. The drought impacting around 67% our state is far from over. Despite the recent colour changes to the landscape from a few rain events, many varieties of native eucalyptus remain under great stress and simply will not be ready to flower for some time yet. Below please find a great story about the improving conditions in NSW. Here at the QBA we’ll continue our important work to ensure our beekeepers are supported during these challenging times. Please show your support by helping us create awareness of the critical role of our essential pollinators by sharing our posts with friends and family. #healthybeesneedhealthytrees #qldbeekeeping #qbabees #beesecurityisfoodsecurity #beesneedtrees #australianhoney #queenslandbeekeepers #eatqld #QBA
