25.01.2022 We're kind of boring... It’s not about flogging a client so that they feel like they’ve gotten their money’s worth. It’s about people getting consistent improvements in their strength, health and quality of life. It’s about client ownership that will set them up to have wonderful outcomes long after they start training with us, whether they are with us still or whether they have long since moved on. Sound like something you could be into? Come along to our next beginner workshop on Wednesday 10th Feb: https://bit.ly/38s0CsO
24.01.2022 Sometimes it’s the boring stuff that gets the best results. For most of us, getting enough sleep is not even on the radar, but it bloody-well should be! How many hours a night do you aim for?
24.01.2022 There's not much else to say
24.01.2022 Training has often been used as a way of making people feel tired (usually so that they think they have gotten value from the session), feel the burn, or as some form of weird punishment for things that people have eaten. Believe it or not, that's not a healthy approach to training. For most everyday people, it’s about feeling better. Maybe you could track how you feel getting out of bed, or how many times in a week your lower back is sore after sitting all day at work? You could track how your body feels when you finish playing your sport. Or you could focus on learning skills. What's your sign of a 'good' session?
23.01.2022 Reaping what you sow is a fairly sound life principle. It’s not foolproof, but as a general rule, what you do, practise, repeat will have a heavy bearing upon what outcomes life visits upon you. As you go about your business, and particularly, in relation to the topics in the article, take a moment to think about how you can sow better seeds in order to reap more of the outcomes that you want. 19.01.2022 For most of our members, the single-leg deadlift begins unweighted because the primary goal is stability and strength, not depth. Once they're confident with the movement, then we kick off loading it with a kettlebell or even a sandbag, but there are still a few variations depending on skill level, so which one should you be doing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4ojy6anogQ&t=18s
18.01.2022 Feel like your kettlebell training might need a bit of a kick in the butt? 17.01.2022 Find a program, stick to it, deload. Rinse, repeat.
17.01.2022 Technique is something we peddle pretty hard. Our members come and train at QKB to learn a skill that they might, at some, point take with them when they move, or take with them to train at home. Learning accurate technique will get you much further than smashing out one hundred crappy reps in a session. Find out more about our coaches at QKB: https://bit.ly/3jFHn1f
16.01.2022 The infamous Simple and Sinister has become a staple program in the world of kettlebells but what exactly is it and why is it worth adding to your list of programs to try? Find out why https://bit.ly/2RQ5A9B
16.01.2022 Well, well, well. Our last beginner workshop for 2020 has officially sold out and we're opening up spaces for the first one of 2021! Is 2021 the year you start training with longevity, strength and feeling better in mind?
16.01.2022 Celebrating 10 years of QKB! It’s been a big decade of seeing people come through the doors to trust us with their training and hanging around for the freakin’ great crew that we have. Piers Kwan has done such an incredible job of fostering a community that thrives on learning how to get strong and move well to feel better. And I think I speak for each and every member when I say thank you for creating a gym like no other when it comes to the training philosophy, the peopl...e, and the atmosphere. Thanks to everyone who came along to help us mark the occasion; it was a great night! And thanks to everyone who has supported the gym along the way, whether you’ve attended a workshop way back when, past members, and coaches. Here’s to another epic decade
16.01.2022 QKB Barbell Club wouldn’t be the same without our resident powerlifting legend, Rex
14.01.2022 For us to develop lasting strength, we don't lift maximum weight a couple times a week. Geez, we don't even do it a couple times a month! We know that the magic happens when you walk away with a few reps left in the tank. So much of what we do is focussed on repetition to build *real* strength. It's showing up and doing what you can if you're having an off day as much as it's showing up and doing what the program outlines for you even though you've got extra energy and want... to do more; it's trusting the process. It's always the boring, pretty straightforward stuff that works though, isn't it? In order to be able to do the cool movements like muscle-ups, chin-ups, handstands, we need to spend time building foundational strength and showing up consistently. If you're interested in trying our approach and a gym that runs on the philosophy of 'just show up and you'll get strong', come along to our next beginner workshop on June 19th! There are 3 places left! https://www.qldkettlebells.com.au//beginner-kettlebell-wor
13.01.2022 We’ve got an Intermediate Kettlebell Workshop comin’ at ya! It’s a choc-o-block 3 hours of training and it’s the perfect follow-up for those who’ve attended a beginner workshop in the past. What you’ll learn:... 1-arm Kettlebell Swing Windmill Push Press Clean Press Get on board! https://bit.ly/2SaF3UB
11.01.2022 We help to combat people’s stress by giving them a safe space where they can come and move around a little bit with people that like them and that have their best interests in mind (and I’m not just talking about our staff, the people who make up our strength community are pretty incredible!). We also think that people having some of our excellent coffee (made on Blackstar Coffee Roaster’s excellent beans!) after class is a super important part of what we do.
10.01.2022 As we age, the muscle fibres involved in explosive movement tend to diminish and this can have pretty negative outcomes. Our explosive muscle fibres are important for lifting heavy things, throwing, jumping, and all those athletic things, but they are also important for things like stopping yourself from falling or catching yourself when something unexpected happens, jumping away from a hazard and for generally averting unexpected disasters. 08.01.2022 Our brain plays a huge role in the way our body reacts to movement. It’s no surprise that strength training does a bunch of positive things for mental health, but sometimes it’s difficult to get started. We’re lucky to have a crew of supportive members, coaches, (occasional) dogs, and all the rest to make training easily the highlight of your day
08.01.2022 Going to the gym, taking up a new hobby, learning a new skill; they all take time, and they all take a decent level of commitment if you want to be good or even great. So, give yourself the best opportunity to succeed and surround yourself with people who want you to succeed, experts in their field, and are on the same journey as you.
06.01.2022 Our 30-minute group classes are a great way to get a workout in without having to think or plan. Each class is structured with an Original Strength warm-up, a balanced workout, and a great crew to have a laugh with. Find out more: https://bit.ly/35HcDb3
05.01.2022 We love Original Strength! If you've been thinking about completing the OS Pro RESET but haven't gotten around to it yet, this is your chance! Live-streamed on Feb 2nd and 3rd 2021... 04.01.2022 What does the lawn mower and disco hips have to do with the kettlebell clean? NOTHING; but we still see these common mistakes when people practice their cleans and they can be tricky to pick up unless you've got someone keeping an eye on your technique. To help you get the most out of your kettlebell training check out our class timetable and jump into our next beginner kettlebell workshop to learn more! https://www.qldkettlebells.com.au/

02.01.2022 Have a daily training habit. Try and do something that feels good every day. The low hanging fruit here is probably leaving your phone at home and going for a half-hour walk, but you could easily do something a little more focused like performing Original Strength Resets, or swimming some laps, but some easy daily work will make a world of difference to your wellbeing long term.
02.01.2022 If you want to be working out in 20, 30, maybe even 40 years time, you need to learn how to train purposefully and intelligently.
