24.01.2022 Rolling into a new financial year.
23.01.2022 Cold this morning? You could try dancing around the home or workplace to warm up. If you make this a regular part of your routine you could be ready to perform at HA 2021.

23.01.2022 Stocking up for a lock-down was much more complex when everything traveled 1000s of km by ship. Food plays an important part in re enactments whether it is grinding grain to make flour or in this case reproducing accurate copies of US WWII ration tins.
22.01.2022 Its Panzer Thursday! Some of our members re enact on a grand scale. Tanks, trucks and artillery will be at the next History Alive when it returns in 2021.
22.01.2022 Members of 2/25 battalion AIF training on the weekend. It doesn't get much more immersive living history than this.
21.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we have to announce the cancellation of our festival, History Alive A journey through time for 2021. History Alive, which has been running for more than 20 years, showcases the work of historical reenactors from throughout Queensland and beyond and is a highpoint of our year. Sadly, the ongoing COVID situation led to insurmountable difficulties in obtaining a suitable venue and we have had to postpone our event until 2022. However, you may rest assured that we are already deep in planning for the 2022 event and are looking forward to sharing the best entertainment and education our reenactors have to offer at History Alive, winter 2022.
21.01.2022 Swords may clash; but not these guys! If you are going raiding take the trouble beforehand to co ordinate outfits with your buddies on the next oar bench. I wonder what colour will be in for our Vikings at HA 2021?
21.01.2022 It seems a fitting picture for the day after Armistice Day! We will make sure they are cleaned up and sober in time for HA2021
21.01.2022 Ride and Shine! Our jousters will be back for History Alive 2021
20.01.2022 Caption competition! Our annual showcase event History Alive is full of surprises!
20.01.2022 Today it is the horses turn to shine. So many of our activities simply would not happen without our beautiful and highly trained mounts. See our jousters, WWI light horse, horse archers and more at HA 2021

18.01.2022 Does everybody remember back when public festivals were held to remember historic events? QLHF members contrast with the modern ADF in the Centenary of the Armistice at Scarborough in 2018.

17.01.2022 Dancing is a good way to warm up on a chilly windy day in Regency England or at History Alive.
17.01.2022 The travel restrictions have been difficult for all of us, sometimes you really just feel the need to get together with a group of friends and cross a border!

16.01.2022 On Victory in the Pacific Day, 15 August 1945, spontaneous rejoicing broke out with celebrations in cities across the nation. Scenes of jubilation contrasted ...with somber reflection and thanksgiving as many experienced conflicting emotions: relief that the war was finally over, grief for those who were lost, and apprehension for the future. Victory in the Pacific! photographic exhibition is now on display at the Memorial. 14.01.2022 Wet dreary weekend suggestions: 1.Historical- Slow cook some amazing historical recipes and relax in front of the fire. 2. Modern - Rug up on the couch with comfort food a good historical book or a movie 3. Easy- Stay in bed and dream how great History Alive 2021 will be.
13.01.2022 And this is how we make our bowls. Continuing our Craft Week theme.
13.01.2022 Everything stops for teatime! Except History Alive 2021! n.b. Tea will be available
13.01.2022 Some of our member groups working together to illustrate the life and training of the late medieval soldier. This is their first event of this type and certainly will not be the last.
12.01.2022 The simple pleasures of camping: colonial style.
12.01.2022 A new group on our webpage is Janissary Barracks. Even though they have been QLHF members for quite a few years they have so far eluded being on our website! Their entry also has a link to their website. Check it out! https://www.qlhf.org.au/project/janissary-barracks/
12.01.2022 WWI German soldiers taking cover from incoming fire at a previous History Alive. As social distancing was not a concept in 1917 we can excuse them.
11.01.2022 Why is this man smiling? Because he is a member of QLHF . He also knows that History Alive will be returning in 2021
10.01.2022 Craft week takes a giant leap forward to the modern era. Still to be found in many parts of the world the cast iron bodied, hand or treadle powered sewing machine revolutionised garment production.
10.01.2022 Are you in south eat Queensland? Don’t have plans for Australia Day yet? Well come and say g’day to the lads of the 15th Battalion at the Highfields Pioneer Village in toowoomba!
10.01.2022 Continuing our theme for the week.
09.01.2022 Lets finish craft week with some Viking era leather work.
09.01.2022 How was your weekend? Catch up any with old friends?
08.01.2022 Sometimes I feel it is necessary to remind people that re enactment is not all about warriors or soldiers. Living history also encompasses every craft and trade practiced in history, discovering their secrets and keeping the skills alive as well as less tangible areas such as social customs. For the next few days this is what our posts will focus on.
08.01.2022 Our friends at the Abbey Medieval Festival have announced the date for the 2021 festival. https://abbeymedievalfestival.com/
08.01.2022 What have you got planned for the weekend? A bit of fresh air and exercise? Catching up with friends? Why not do both at once! Swords are great tool to ensure social distance.
07.01.2022 Weaving, cutting, sewing and now trimming. If you had to do all that would you value your clothing more?
07.01.2022 And at the going down of the sun we shall remember them.
07.01.2022 A chilly and damp weekend perfect for putting on some warm slippers and relaxing. Our ancestors also wore well made and comfortable footwear. Explore the past when History Alive comes back in 2021
07.01.2022 Published in Military Magazine in 1997. An article about the Long Range Desert Group, written by Brendan OCarroll, the acclaimed authority on the New Zealand L...RDG. I appeared in the original uniform of a captured Italian soldier of the Pavia Division. This photo marks the beginning of WW2 Italian military re-enactment down under ! See more
06.01.2022 As restrictions ease our re enactors are getting back into training. Members of Order of The Gryphon ran a private joust and 15th century tournament last weekend. Here they are jousting at HA 2019
06.01.2022 Something a little different. A short 14 minute documentary on Fort Lytton. You will recognise the fort If you have been to any of our History Alive events prior to 2019. QLHF members and groups have been active at Fort Lytton National Park even before it was gifted to the national estate.
05.01.2022 Every stick is a potential sword and every child a hero
04.01.2022 Recently some of or 15th Century re enactor s held a recreation of a drill and training muster. The quality speaks for itself!
04.01.2022 Queensland residents will be aware that the restrictions on contact sports have now been lifted. For many of our Vikings this news has been a God(s) Send! For the past few months all they have been able to do is regale their immediate family with tales of their battle prowess and dream of undefended coastlines while working out on their rowing machines!
03.01.2022 Musketry instruction for a new recruit in Napoleons Grande Armee
03.01.2022 Like everybody else in Australia it is tax time for our medieval re enactors. Unlike everybody else their refunds go straight towards more fabrics and shiny things. Your support for these textile addicts is critical! Visit us at History Alive 2021
02.01.2022 Our friends at the Abbey Museum are releasing a special Christmas spiced mead this year. Covid has hit all of the museums and galleries hard with enforced closures and no major public fundraising events. This is your chance to help a great institution whilst avoiding having to go out and do your Christmas gift shopping. You should also get some for yourself for being so clever!
01.01.2022 And now short musical interlude.
