16.01.2022 Did you know that alpacas have a padded foot? Each has two toenails, which require trimming (frequency is dependent on the type of land the alpacas are kept on). This padded foot is gentle on pasture - alpacas are an environmentally friendly livestock choice.

16.01.2022 Want to know more about plants? Here’s a bargain on an informative book for those who are interested.

15.01.2022 With the hot weather drying out pasture, if you need to supplement feed your alpacas, remember they need a certain amount of dry feed to maintain body condition. Checking their Body Condition Score (BCS) regularly will help you work out if you need to increase supplementary feed.

15.01.2022 Alpacas have a soft padded foot, with two toenails on each foot. Toenails require trimming periodically to prevent them curling and causing discomfort when the alpaca walks. This can be done using footrot shears (pictured), or straight-edge secateurs. Do not trim shorter than the pad of the foot.

14.01.2022 Shearing time is when many producers administer injections - this is a great visual reminder of the need to change needles for each animal.
