17.01.2022 We would have woken to the news this morning that the Premier of Queensland has announced a lockdown for Greater Brisbane from 6pm tonight (Friday 8 January) until 6pm Monday 11 January. For more information on the restrictions of the lockdown, please visit the below link https://www.qld.gov.au//current/greater-brisbane-lockdown... Greater Brisbane has been defined as Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan & Redlands, which is visually displayed in the attached image. In line with the State Government's direction, the decision has been made to cancel all QLD Premier Cricket competition fixtures for this weekend. This includes the Monday night Paul Pink Shield game scheduled at Valley. QLD Sub Districts and Warehouse Cricket have already cancelled their weekend’s fixtures, with some of our Premier Clubs fielding teams in those competitions as well. It is important that our cricketing community follows the health advice and directives of the State Government. Stay home, stay safe and get tested if you have any cold/flu like symptoms. As the lockdown unfolds and more information comes to hand, we will keep you updated.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Bruce Oxenford - Winner of Cricket Australia's Umpire Award "Umpire of the Year" for 2021. Cricket Australia in its media release says, "In addition to his excellent performances on the field, Bruce has contributed willingly and positively to improve umpiring and the game as a whole. He is a regular contributor at national, state and community events and is a committed supporter of aspiring umpires." The award, which is selected by the CA’s Chairman and Chi...ef Executive Officer, says the national body presented to an Australian EUP or NUP member "adjudged all-round most outstanding, with consideration not only to an umpire’s on-field performance but also their contribution to elite umpiring in Australia by way of significant achievement or off-field work". CA Match Officials Unit manager Sean Easey said: Bruce and his approach to his craft embody what we are all striving for teamwork, camaraderie, excellence, and an unwavering contribution towards the growth of others and the game. Congratulations to Bruce and we wish him well in this next chapter following his retirement from international cricket. Well done. Over its 18-year history of the award to date, in addition to Fry and Bruce’s four wins, former EUP member Simon Taufel plus the current NUP’s Paul Wilson each received it three times, and two other former EUP members Steve Davis and Daryl Harper, current EUP member Paul Reiffel, and former NUP member Peter Parker, all once. Bruce previously won the award in 2008, 2011 and 2013.

13.01.2022 Congratulations Ben Baker! Ben was recently recognised as a national finalist at the Cricket Australia ‘A Sport For All Award’ in the Technology and Media Initi...ative of the Year category. The 14-year-old Maroochydoore Cricket Club player used his initiative to formulate an idea of an umpire accreditation to align with the new Junior Cricket formats. What followed was the development of an online umpire training platform for the Sunshine Coast Cricket Association, allowing current and prospective umpires to sharpen their skills and learn the laws of cricket in a digital and interactive forum. We would also like to acknowledge the fine work of Peter Embleton, who spent countless hours taking Ben’s idea & turning it into a reality! Well done Ben & a big thank you Peter! See more

11.01.2022 Umpire Oxenford to Retire from International Cricket.

10.01.2022 To the QCUSA members, During the remainder of the season we are like to encounter storms and lightening and as umpires we need to be mindful of our actions when this eventuates. Please refer to Playing Condition 2.8 in the QC General Playing Conditions. If during the suspension of play thunder follows a lightning flash by thirty (30) seconds or less, the thirty (30) minute suspension period is to recommence. Techniques to consider / Handy Hints:... When at square leg position yourself so that the building storm is in front of you and not behind. This may mean that instead of being at square leg you go to point. Take a few steps back assuming the fielding side have a point. Please let your partner know as well as the fielding captain/batters at the crease. This shows that you are proactive and a good opportunity to make all aware of what you are doing. When off the field, please don’t hide away in a room, be present (in a safe area) so that you can monitor further lightning strikes and or change in weather patterns. Have a great weekend’s umpiring everyone.
