25.01.2022 "In a moment where we feel caged, where we are scared of losing our loved ones, and we feel vulnerable in the middle of a pandemic that seems unstoppable, our ecosystem is presenting us with a challenge. It is everyones personal responsibility whether to accept it or not. Are we able to preserve our main source of life?" - some food for thought in this article!

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Logan City Council's Acting Director of Roads and Water Daryl Ross who was named Australias top water professional at the Australian Water Association Awards night on Thursday night! Daryl received the Australian Water Professional of the Year Award for his visionary leadership, transforming Councils water business through the creation of the Logan Water Infrastructure Alliance, now known as the Logan Water Partnership. Well done Daryl and the team at Logan!

24.01.2022 All the toilet paper brawls at the supermarket is having severe consequences for our water and sewerage service providers - spare a thought for the "fatberg response units" having to clear the blockages caused by people flushing the wrong things down their toilets! Please remember to only flush the 3Ps - Pee, Poo and Paper, but only Toilet Paper, not the newspaper or yellow pages, however tempting that may be!

24.01.2022 This afternoon the award winning water sample of Livingstone Shire Council will go head to head with winners from other states across Australia in the Ixom 2020 Australia’s Best Tasting Tap Water competition. The winner will be announced at around 1.50pm and we'll post an update here. Hosted by the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia - WIOA , the National titles of water tasting will be conducted online using the WIOA Virtual Water platform. We obviously want Q...ueensland to continue its success with some excellent water samples having taken the crown before. Livingstone took us up on the offer to produce a limited edition brew from their winning water in 2017. Livingstone Lager with a tropical twist of pineapple is where we all want to be. Go Queensland! 24.01.2022 A Springer Spaniel named Halo and his handler Dennis Gannaway are working with Seqwater to control the negative impacts of foxes and other pest species as part of Seqwaters pest management program. These amazing dogs can also sniff out water leaks.

24.01.2022 From cloud to cup... we love the videos produced by the NT Power and Water to educate communities about where their water comes from

23.01.2022 Water infrastructure = blank canvases for art

22.01.2022 Dammed if you do, dammed if you dont - do we need more dams or get better at reusing and recycling what weve already got?

22.01.2022 You might say my interest and appreciation for the environment and land conservation was instilled in me at a young age. My early childhood years were spent gr...owing up on a farm in regional NSW and my father a teacher by profession has always had an interest in farming and the environment. I have taken that interest and turned it into a career, working as a Senior Planner in Seqwaters Source Protection Team. Water that comes out of our taps each day starts as rain that flows across streets, farmland and natural areas before making its way into nearby rivers and lakes, where we draw water for treatment. I work within a broader team that plans and delivers projects across South East Queensland to protect and improve the health of our drinking water supply catchments and increase flood resilience. To achieve this, we work in close collaboration with other Seqwater teams as well as private landholders, catchment management groups and other stakeholders. The scale of the projects vary; from clearing invasive weeds from vast stretches of riverside land to working with local farmers to develop better land management practices that improve the quality of water flowing off their farms. I am particularly proud of the partnership program my team and I have been delivering to carry out land condition improvement projects on private properties across South East Queensland, resulting in improvements to water quality. Seqwater is one of the leaders in catchment management across the region and I take pride in knowing I am working to improve the environment we live in, to bring about a range of benefits not only for people today, but for generations to come.

22.01.2022 Celebrating World Toilet Day at the Australian Water Association Qld Conference today... we met Harold the Hungry Toilet and cleared 183 metres of sewer pipes from fatbergs, roots, toys and more. Well done to Unitywater for raising awareness of the importance of toilets to ensure the health and safety in our communities.

21.01.2022 A lot of work goes on behind the scenes before we open our taps to clean, safe water...

21.01.2022 DO NOT FLUSH: WET WIPES PAPER TOWEL TISSUES NEWSPAPER Using alternatives during the current #ToiletPaper shortage? Make sure you put them in the bi...n to help avoid nasty plumbing bills. These products do not break down like toilet paper when flushed and can lead to internal blockages and overflows in your home and/or business. If it's not one of the 3 Ps (pee, poo and toilet paper) don't flush it #DontBlockItBinIt #ToiletPaperGate #Coronavirus More: www.unitywater.com/wetwipesarerubbish See more

21.01.2022 Mackay Regional Council blames a three tonne fatberg on Coronavirus panic buying. Wet wipes, mixed with a range of other products people flushed down the loo, caused a massive blockage in the sewer system. Removing blockages is a costly exercise and all that money could have been spent on infrastructure and services instead. Remember, only flush pee, poo and toilet paper!

21.01.2022 Whoa! About 1200-tonnes of wipes are removed from Urban Utilities sewerage network a year, costing nearly half a million dollars a year to dispose of. A record one-tonne rag ball, the same weight of a small car, was recently removed from the Bundamba Sewage Treatment Plant. Best not to flush those wipes!

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Ben Haddock from Southern Downs Regional Council for winning the qldwater / Water Industry Operators Association of Australia - WIOA Young Operator of the Year Award. Ben has shown proactive leadership and problem solving while navigating the challenges of severe drought in the region. Well done Ben! https://www.warwickdailynews.com.au//council-youn/4086319/

19.01.2022 A young Australian scientist has been shortlisted for the internationally acclaimed Stockholm Junior Water Prize for the second year running. The Australian winner of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Emma Serisier from Coffs Harbour, was shortlisted for the global award for her impressive Crack for the Future research project, which shows that the redirection of eggshell from landfill to soil can attract and soak up phosphates from fertilisers and manures and retain them in the soil, that would otherwise run off and pollute waterways. She designed the project to address eutrophication in natural waterways caused by phosphate run-off, a by-product of agricultural fertilisers and animal waste. Show your support for Emma by voting in the Peoples Choice Awards - link in the article below

19.01.2022 Kwatja Ngkama is the Western Arrernte translation for Talking Water. Talking Water is a new AWA/WSAA video series capturing and promoting Indigenous water knowledge from the past and present along with a vision for the future. In this first video, we hear from Aboriginal elders and custodians from the Western Arrernte people, Central Arrernte people and Warlpiri people in Central Australia. Enjoy!

19.01.2022 Great to see water security at the top of the Infrastructure Australia priority list! And so it should be.

18.01.2022 Great news! Thankyou Group has ditched its bottled water saying attempts to make the product more sustainable would amount to greenwashing...

18.01.2022 Good news for the Great Artesian Basin, with thanks to work done through the the Great Artesian Basin Sustainability Initiative. The upgrading of bores, decommissioning of bore drains and the installation of more efficient pipe drains have saved more than 250 gigalitres of water per year. https://www.abc.net.au//great-artesian-basin-wate/12872642

17.01.2022 This is a must watch if you want to get some inspiration for what can be done to solve the world's water problems... and did we mention Matt Damon

17.01.2022 Millions of litres of beer that expired while the South Australian hospitality industry was shut down has been used to brew renewable energy. Digesters at SA Waters Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant have used expired beer to boost renewable energy generation to 654 megawatt hours in a single month. The unused beer from local South Australian breweries was repurposed on-site and converted into electricity to power the plants treatment processes, reducing wastage and benefiting the environment.

14.01.2022 The Australian Stockholm Junior Water Prize 2021 Competition is now open for entries - perfect timing with the launch coinciding with #NationalScienceWeek! The annual water science competition is for high school students to create solutions for current and future water challenges. Projects can delve into things like improving water quality, managing water resources, water protection and conservation, water sanitation and hygiene, and water & wastewater treatment. Previous winners have come up with some amazing projects and the winner gets to go to Stockholm, Sweden to attend the international competition. So if you know some smart young people, tell them about this great opportunity! Details in the link below

14.01.2022 The recent rush to stock up on toilet paper has a historical precedent... in 1973, Japanese women began buying huge amounts of toilet paper in response to growing fear among middle-class Japanese people that their postwar aspirations for peace, stability, and economic mobility would be wiped out by inflation, environmental degradation, and the oil crisis. Thanks to National Geographic for this interesting overview of the history of toilet paper .

12.01.2022 Mackay Regional Council has cleared 620 chokes and partial chokes of various sizes in the sewer network in the last 12 months at a cost to ratepayers of about $250,000, with wet wipes being the biggest culprit. Remember to flush only the 3Ps - pee, poo and toilet paper and save your rates for more important projects!

09.01.2022 Have you ever considered working in the water industry? There are some great opportunities and many different pathways into the industry, including traineeships. Great to see Seqwater invest in our younger generation!

07.01.2022 Exciting things are happening in Noosa! Our Waterwatch Coordinator Jess ventured to Tewantin to provide nutrient water sampling training for enthusiastic Noosa ...Integrated Catchment Association (NICA) members; Bruce Hallett and Bruce McConkey, along with one of Noosa Shire Councils fabulous Environment Officers, Jan Maddin. NICA will routinely collect data from strategically selected sites and the champions at Noosa & District Landcare will be getting on board too! 06.01.2022 Well done to the water treatment team at Mackay Regional Council for this outstanding result! We never thought a small competition to select the Best of the West in 2011 would end in a Queensland sample taking silver at an international competition :)

04.01.2022 Today is #WorldWaterDay and the theme for 2020 is water and climate change and how the two are inextricably linked. As the global population grows, so does th...e demand for #water, which depletes natural resources and damages the environment in many places. We need to embrace #circular production systems and use water much more efficiently. Solutions include protecting carbon sinks such as #oceans and #wetlands, adopting climate-smart agricultural techniques, and increasing the safe reuse of wastewater. What things can YOU do today to use water more responsibly?
