06.01.2022 Volunteerism is an integral part of the Muslim community and this tradition has allowed us to prosper as a community. We request you all to invest your time and knowledge for the success of the Societys mission. We are working to establish a learning hub where people can discover QLD Muslim history and the diversity within our communities. We hope that you will support us in this venture and be a part of our team. Even a few hours a week is a great contribution and will strengthen us in accomplishing our projects. Please participate and forward this message to your friends who might be interested in this important cause.
06.01.2022 To those that died and sacrificed themselves in war - and we continue to lose innocent souls in senseless wars - thank you for your work - this is my Grand Uncle - and I had an Uncle who was a Nasho, and relatives who are currently serving RAAF and Army personnel. #muslimsserve Moheddeen Abdul Ghias Howsan (known as Bob) was born in 1920, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Fred Madeen Howsan (second eldest child of Howsan&Tye) of Mt. Gravatt, Brisbane, and the grandson of the firs...t Muslim to settle in the Mt. Gravatt area. He was educated at Buranda Boys School and the Brisbane Boys Grammar School. After the outbreak of World War Two he joined the Royal Australian Air Force in February 1940 and left Australia in April 1941 for training in Canada, before going to England as a member of 405 Squadron. Moheddeen Abdul Ghias (Bob) Howsans papers have been added to the John Oxley Library. This collection consists of papers relating to Bob Howsan, a young Queenslander who served in the Second World War as a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Flight Sergeant Howsan lost his life when the plane he was piloting was shot down in France on 1st April 1942. All but one of the crew were killed. Before the plane crashed Sergeant Howsan steered the stricken aircraft away from the French village of Marly-le-Roe, near Versailles, to avoid any civilian casualties. In 1994 the citizens of Marly-le-Roe unveiled a memorial honouring the fallen airmen for their bravery. The collection consists of correspondence from the Australian and British governments to Bob Howsans family regarding his death, photographs of his grave in Versailles Cemetery in France, newspaper and journal articles and a certificate from the Air Raid Wardens Organisation of Queensland. Also included in the collection are two publications; Instructions on Method of Attack by Air Firing and Air Bombing, R.A.A.F. Publications No. 56, February 1939, and the book Foundations of Victory: Focus Your Outlook by Lord Davies. The latter is inscribed by Lord Davies To my Australian friend. Telegram regarding Bob Howsans death. The grave of Bob Howsan is in Versailles Cemetery, France The collection may be viewed at the John Oxley Library, Accession No: 29383, Boxes 10041, 17387 O/S at Australian War Memorial Yasmin Khan

02.01.2022 AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE! I had just finished putting these up near the MCG when a man stopped to ask me about what it was all about. I told him about Monga Khan, B...alcoo Balooch on the left and Ackbar Khan on the right. I spoke about Cameleers, Hawkers, mythology and folk heroes; All the while football fans were walking past the posters on the way to the match... Finally the man said the shout"Aussie Aussie Aussie" is so Australian and combined with those images it really gets to you. I honestly hadnt made that connection before he mentioned it, but suddenly it was so obvious. Footy fans kept walking past and Im sure they all made the same connection. #MongaKhan #RealAustraliansSayWelcome
