24.01.2022 Did you know that a blood test to measure prostate specific antigen (PSA), may be useful for the early detection of prostate cancer? Prostate Cancer is the #2 cause of cancer-related deaths in males of all ages since 2001*. The cause of prostate cancer is unknown; however, it often occurs along with the benign (non-cancerous) enlargement of the prostate gland. For more information about the prostate and information about PSA testing, talk with your doctor and refer to our patient information brochure - bit.ly/3kVbUJD. *Statistic from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare [AIHM], Cat. No.: CAN 122.

23.01.2022 It's estimated that skin cancer, specifically melanoma will be the 3rd most commonly diagnosed cancer in 2020. Of those diagnosed 58% are males. Exposure to UV radiation is thought to be the main risk factor in developing melanoma; however, other factors such as skin type and the health of the immune system also play a role. Additionally, there are rare genetic abnormalities that increase the risk of developing melanoma. Melanoma can occur in a pre-existing mole the hi...ghest risk is within large congenital moles that have been present from birth. Check out our flyer for more details: bit.ly/38A0DeI Speak with your doctor should you have any concerns or organise for a skin check. *Statistics from Cancer Australia Commonwealth of Australia.

22.01.2022 During the first wave of COVID-19 pathology testing rates were down 40% on average across Australia. Your pathology tests provide information that your doctors need to diagnose and treat you. We are still here to provide those vital tests and practising extra hygiene measures to keep you safe, so please #DontWaitMate

19.01.2022 We will remember them. Lest we forget. #remembranceday

19.01.2022 This time of year is a time to give to those who need it most, and we are pleased to announce that we will be making donations to two charities. These two charities have been chosen for their hard work and dedication supporting disadvantaged children with access to education across Australia, and supporting hands on, practical care for individuals and their families experiencing breast cancer. By making these donations, we are hoping to help in any way we can, and your continued support allows us to do so

15.01.2022 Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In Australia, the prevalence of heart, stroke and vascular disease throughout 2017-18 was higher among men than women*. One contributing factor to CVD is Cholesterol. Cholesterol doesn’t produce any symptoms and many people first learn they have high cholesterol when they have a heart attack or stroke. It is manufactured in the liver from fats in our diet with two major types of cholesterol lipopro...teins produced by the body - low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). How much LDL and HDL you have in your blood is influenced by the types of fats you eat, your age, your family history and your general health. Cholesterol can be monitored through blood tests and any individuals concerned about cholesterol should speak with their doctor and refer to our patient information brochure: bit.ly/2Iw4u1J. *Statistic from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare [AIHM], Cat. No.: CVD 83. See more

11.01.2022 November is Men’s Health awareness month. In recognition of this, we are encouraging men to visit their GP. From research, we know that men are less likely to seek preventive care (such as regular check-ups) which can mean early indicators of heart disease, cancer or other serious health problems are being missed. It is also important men be honest about symptoms with their doctor so adequate treatment can be given. Remember that doctors are bound by confidentiality and doctor’s clinics are safe, judgment-free places. #menshealth #menshealthawarenessmonth

05.01.2022 Since opening in early April we are honoured to have had tens of thousands of Queenslanders attend our COVID-19 drive through clinics. To give you some idea of the magnitude of these testing sites, on 25th August 2020, our Murarrie drive through collected 806 swabs in 10 hours. That is 1 swab every 45 seconds. This statistic exemplifies the dedication we have seen this year, not only by medical personal and frontline staff, but in everyday Queenslanders who continue to attend COVID-19 testing clinics. Coming into the festive season we want to take the time to say thank you to our staff, who continued to work through these trying times, and all Queenslanders who have done their part to halt the spread of COVID-19.

04.01.2022 Many thanks to our valued patients that have been generous enough to leave feedback and thank you to those responsible for the recognition

03.01.2022 Our Murarrie drive-through COVID-19 testing site hosted Sunrise last week. Despite the record number of patients, we were able to surpass 800 tests in the 10 hours to 5pm, recording one swab every 45 seconds. We'd like to thank the community for their patience as well as recognising the extraordinary efforts of all QML staff.

01.01.2022 It's International Pathology Day This year has been a year like no other. To all of our people, to all Pathology Australia members and to all pathology workers in Australia and around the world, today we say THANK YOU. #InternationalPathologyDay
