25.01.2022 Re-opening of the Carmila SES Group Around 45 people descended on the Carmila SES / RFB Facility on Wednesday night to celebrate the re-opening of the Carmila SES Group by the Hon Craig Crawford MP. The Carmila SES Group has been inactive for around 3 years and has re-opened with a whopping 18 members - a huge achievment for such a small town and testament to the work of Isaac Local Controller Daniel Deal. ... It was wonderful to see so many faces across the services, with QFES Assistant Commissioner Darryl King, SES Regional Manager Andrew Wyatt, RFS Regional Manager Brian Smith and F&R Superintendent Brad Stockwell in attendance from Regional Office. Great to also see representatives from Isaac Regional Council Cr Viv Coleman, Alexis Coutts and Maria Borg, as well as Mirani MP Steven Andrews. Thank you to everyone for a great evening!

25.01.2022 Were in for a ch-ch-chilly one tonight! Parts of the state are shivering through a cold snap, so if youre planning to crank up the heater, please: Keep a c...lear space of one metre around your heater - a safe distance away from bedding, curtains and tablecloths. Ensure portable heaters are placed in a stable position. Never dry clothes in front of a heater - leave that to the clothes line or dryer.

23.01.2022 Banana Unit Vertical Rescue course completed at Taroom this weekend. Thank you to all the trainers, participants, course support and haul team. VR capability is an important SES function for many reasons contributing to response capability in rescue situations, high angle roof access and recruitment and retention. Fantastic to see this capability being supported as an ongoing necessity for Central.

13.01.2022 Have you come across any of these weird looking things while strolling along the beach? This canister which contained aluminium phosphide pellets was found on... a remote beach in Far North QLD last week. If exposed to moisture, flammable, toxic phosphine gas is produced from the pellets. It can affect your respiratory and circulatory system if you come into contact with it. If you see something that resembles one of these canisters, do not touch it If youre in a remote area with no mobile phone coverage, you can take photos of the canister and surrounding area and record the latitude and longitude (if safe to do so) to relay to the authorities when you can. If you do have coverage, call Triple Zero and ask for fire. Firefighters are trained to respond to HAZMAT incidents and will be able to safely remove a canister before making sure the area is safe. 01.01.2022 You’ve no doubt seen the orange army out in force recently thanks to wild weather lashing parts of the state, but did you know it doesn’t just help out during s...torms and cyclones? SES volunteers are highly skilled and trained in a raft of capabilities to support the community. This morning, SES flood boat teams joined Queensland Police Service, QGAir Rescue 510 and the coastguard in the search for two missing people near False Cape (Cairns). The missing people were located Well done to all involved.

01.01.2022 Sunday saw Mirani SES Group members Erik Lindbergs, Matt Munchow, Darcy Penshorn and Mark Mosier, together with Mark and Patricia Fenech from Mt Blackwood RFB, journey into Captains Crossing and 28 km beyond to rescue a man and woman who had become stranded in their 4WD overnight. It wasnt a straightforward retrieval as the woman had a suspected ankle fracture. It was a long but successful day with our team starting out at 0630 and safely finding and escorting the couple ba...ck to Pinnacle Station, where they were met by QPS and QAS at around 1900. A debrief at Mirani SES facility was accompanied by much welcomed pizza for the crew. Matt provided first aid to support the womans ankle for the long drive back out. Group Leader Jan Linbergs was able to plot the teams progress on a map and maintain radio contact from Mirani SES shed for the whole incident and keep QPS informed of their progress and any situation that arose. She also kept TAMS well updated throughout the day. Huge thanks to Mark and Patricia from Mt Blackwood RFB for their assistance including the use of their ATV. Another great example of the two services working together We understand that the track in to Captains Crossing is now impassable. On the way out the road collapsed under our teams last vehicle, which had to be winched out .
