15.01.2022 Awesome coupe of months with Qtasmania underway. Various quince cutting from The Don, Mole Creek and Elizabeth Town. Grafting has been completed thanks to our friends Maple Grove Nursery in Grove. A big big thanks to Damo & Michelle at Riverview Nursery Don for putting us in contact with Maplegrove, supplying everything we needed, and making available our root stock bed (which you can see in the photos). 500 plants are now in ready for planting out next winter. The first 100 ...trees will be planted at 1200 Melrose Rd at the end of the month. Photos: - Preparation of the root stock bed, thanks big Matt for giving me a hand whilst I had a broken wing. - The 500 quince tree all snug in bed at River View Nursery We will keep you posted with some exciting news regarding the development....... Qcard: Did you know Quince is a fruit that was highly prized by ancient civilisations, and is thought to have originated near the antique city of Smyrna, Turkey. 11.01.2022 Couple of busy months with the first 100 trees planted at 1200 Melrose Rd and opps killed a couple of the recently grafted plants with 250 going gang buster at River View Nursery in the Don and 50 in the sick ward at mums. We have been waiting for the right time to share a snippet of what we are planning but will hold tight until we have had a chance to share with our new neighbours mid to late March. Mr Knight has 18acres of fresh market potato’s planted .... with no spray...s, house in the Don is contracted thanks to James Lesley at Lesley and Banks and the rest we will share once the ducks are line up. Qcard. The Origin of the Spanish word Membrillo (quince paste) comes from the name for the quince tree branches. When the branches are new they are tender, flexible and highly resilient, just like mimbre (wicker). Membrillo is the diminutive of mimbre. See the photos where we have just tied down the trees getting the vase structure early. Enjoy the pictures, we will have some exciting news soon. The flowering quince is at home in the Don and an example of a 4 year old tree. Exciting times.....
