22.01.2022 We are very excited that our beautiful school library is getting a make-over! Work began in the September school holidays, with the wall closing off our old "Cinema Paradiso" coming down to open up the lower library space. A new paint job brightened things up as well. In the coming weeks, all the existing furniture will be redistributed around the school as far as possible, with metal shelving heading off for scrap. The Library staff in consultation with the executive have co...mpletely redesigned the space to reflect modern teaching and learning practises, and to accommodate more "future-focused" learning and study. Dedicated study spaces, comfortable furniture for wide-reading and socialising at recess and lunchtime, and better showcasing of and access to our excellent fiction and non-fiction book collections will make our library even more welcoming and user-friendly for all students across all stages. The electricians have been in this week, creating new outlets for enquiry terminals (for the library catalogue) and charging stations for BYOD and other laptops and devices. We've already started the huge job of packing All. Those. Books. and anticipate the new fittings and furniture should be in place during Week 8. Then will come the job of placing the books back onto the new shelving, a specialist job which will take time. However, we hope to be able to welcome students back into the library before the end of the school year, and definitely by the start of Term 1 2021. With thanks to Mr Head, Ms Lachevre, Ms Ridge, Mrs Pearce, Mrs Mahon, Mr Brooks, Mr Daghel and Ms Lawson-Cohen, and to our student volunteers and library monitors for their work on this huge undertaking. We can't wait to show you our new library space very soon!

19.01.2022 Yesterday Scarlet Masters shared her stop motion animation expertise with a small group of interested peers during a lunchtime workshop in the Library. During this session students were introduced the basics of 'Stop Motion Studio' and were provided with prepared settings and props to immerse them in the creative process right away. Scarlet and her outstanding crew, provided advise, assistance and worked to troubleshoot as technical problems arose. Overall it was a fast paced, interactive and engaging introduction to the pleasures of film making. Please enjoy the short animation authored by Abbey Winters during yesterday's workshop, titled 'After the rain'. https://bcove.video/36iCiY0

19.01.2022 Thank you to Manpreeth Kaur for her description of the afternoon. On Friday afternoon, all of year 7 had the opportunity to watch a performance called "Aim Higher' from the University of Western Sydney. This was about going to university after high school and getting a higher education. They also talked about different ways of learning outside of the classroom. Year 7 enjoyed watching the performance and got to know more about university and higher education.

18.01.2022 Lachlan (who owns a small sheep shearing business) came today to shear our sheep. Year 10 Agriculture and Year 8 Technology participated in this program today. Lachlan sheared sheep, sorted out overgrown hoofs and explained many things to the students about shearing, wool, sheep behaviour and the shearing industry. it was a fantastic experience and we all learnt so much.

18.01.2022 A reminder that this afternoon is set aside for Quakers Hill East Primary School

18.01.2022 Quakers Hill High School is celebrating NAIDOC week (8-15 November 2020). This year’s NAIDOC Week poster is by artist and designer Tyrown Waigana. ‘The Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of indigenous Australians showing that this country-since the dawn of time-always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.’

17.01.2022 For parents who are coming this afternoon or any afternoon this week: 1. It is important that only one parent attends and that you avoid bringing younger children as we must adhere to the 4 square metre rule. 2. Please bring your own plastic/ canvas bags to the uniform shop as we have a very limited number available. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this.

14.01.2022 Acknowledgement of Country We acknowledge that we are on the land of the Darug people. We pay our respects to elders past and present. We acknowledge that we are learning and understanding more, about connection to country, belonging to country the deep cultural importance of this to Aboriginal culture.
