20.01.2022 Meet the team - Jenny Gore, Founder From Lecturer to Laureate Professor - this year Jenny celebrates 30 years at the University of Newcastle. She’s always found pleasure in her work and says her desire to create change has never wavered. Jenny didn’t set out to become an academic growing up in a family of teachers, Jenny spent two years as a PE teacher, before joining her then-boyfriend in Canada where she attained her Master’s degree. Returning to Australia, Jenny worked... as a teacher educator at UQ and UON. When encouraged by Ken Zeichner, she set off to the US to complete her PhD with a focus on critical and feminist pedagogy. In 1991, Jenny returned to Australia and from there her long and successful academic career unfolded. While always dedicated to her work, Jenny raised two daughters and maintains some work-life balance, unwinding at the beach, the gym, by reading or her guilty pleasure - watching reality TV. Although academic life has its challenges, her drive comes from the conviction that her work matters. Grateful for support she received in her career from friends, family, and mentors, she is committed to paying-it-forward and nurturing the aspirations of her current colleagues, her friends. Ultimately, though, my story is grounded in a serendipitous alignment of circumstances, opportunities, and connections brought to fruition through a great deal of toil and much delight. See more
