24.01.2022 EPISODE 3: MISSY's Adventures We had wondered why she would do this every morning and watched to find out where she goes. You see, there is a lot of long grass in the paddock across the road. Long grass is ideal for hiding inAND it seems, for buildinga nest!

23.01.2022 After losing about a dozen chooks recently, we have taken drastic measures to protect our precious chooks from foxes. During the wet weather it was not possible to bait so we had to get our thinking caps on. Meet some of our alpaca stock guardians that patrol the paddock. They certainly have our dog bluffed! We have also installed solar fed electric poultry netting to keep anything at bay that gets through the alpacas. Here is one of the caravans and a few chooks ranging beneath the trees, oblivious to the lengths we go to to keep them safe and happy.

23.01.2022 Today the government are discussing what the term "free range" means. What they are really discussing is - how many hens will we say can be grazed on 1 hectare of land for how many hours in a day. Currently there is no law or Australian Standard to abide by and of course there are those that will push this to the max. For example: some of the really big operators for supermarket chains graze up to 10,000 birds to the hectare. Well here at Quart Pot Creek Free Range, we graze approx 60 hens per hectare from first light in the morning until last light, every single day. If only our hens knew just how lucky they are to be here?

22.01.2022 A very frosty -3 morning at Quart Pot Creek Free Range. No wonder the girls were reluctant to get out of bed.

16.01.2022 LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MISSY (or more formally - MISS ADVENTURE!) Early every morning we have observed one hen leaving the safety and comfort of the "chicken caravan". She travels, not too quickly, but with a definite purpose in mind, across the paddock, under the entrance gate and across the road. * Want to learn more about what Missy gets up to?... Come back often and read her story See more

08.01.2022 FAQ's: 1. Why do eggs have a number stamped on them? This number represents the farm where the egg was produced. In the event of a disease outbreak, the egg can be traced back to the grower 2. I have saved my egg cartons, can you take them back to reuse?... Sorry, no. The Food Safety Act prohibits the reuse of egg cartons for resale. This assures you that there is no existing contamination in the carton before the eggs are packed 3. Do growers have to be licensed? Yes, if they sell more than 20 dozen eggs per week. By law, ALL growers must have a registered number to stamp on every egg that they sell (see 1. above)
