24.01.2022 Really disappointing that someone would not only steal equipment from the NSW SES but they would also damage these vessels which are used to keep the community safe.

22.01.2022 Advice from the Ridgeway Brigade about possible smoke this evening.

20.01.2022 Fantastic to be part of the Queanbeyan RSL Sub-Branch’s ANZAC Day Remembrance. Here’s hoping that 2022 will see a full return to ANZAC Day as we knew it before Covid.

20.01.2022 Late last night we received a call to assist a local family whose tarp had come loose in the recent strong winds. The tarp had been placed on by a tradesman a few days prior. Large amounts of overhanging branches were hampering efforts to re-tarp the roof so they had to be cut down so we could safely work. Once a tarp has been placed on your roof it is good to check them periodically as wind can still affect them. ... For emergency assistance during storms and floods call us on 132 500

19.01.2022 It was an honour to present Andrew Daniels from the Ridgeway Rural Fire Service and Queanbeyan SES with a Monaro Service Award. Andrew is a highly valued membe...r of both teams and never shies away from helping out. He is a true community champion and was a pillar of strength during the devastating 2019/2020 bushfire season, the Carwoola bushfires in 2017 and the Queanbeyan floods in 2012. Andrew has dedicated countless hours to ensuring the safety of his community, and is so deserving of this award. Congratulations. NSW SES - Queanbeyan Unit Ridgeway Rural Fire Brigade

19.01.2022 Queanbeyan currently has five members working in the hot and humid conditions of Queensland. Our team were deployed to Ipswich were the current temperatures are high.

19.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Canberra for DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in Canberra and Queanbeyan. Issued at 3:50 pm Tuesday, 1 December 2020.... SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FORECAST TO MOVE THROUGH THE ACT Plan Image The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Boorowa, Jugiong and Burrinjuck. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Belconnen, Canberra Civic, Hall, Gungahlin and Canberra Airport by 4:15 pm and Queanbeyan, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden Valley by 4:45 pm. Damaging winds and large hailstones are likely. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:50 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southern Tablelands and parts of the Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes and Australian Capital Territory districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

18.01.2022 Really disappointed that we located some significant damage to the white rocks reserve today at the EDE and at Wickerslack lane. It appears that someone has rammed the gate at the Ellerton Drive Extension, cut the fence and padlocks at Wickerslack as well as dumped a large amount of rubbish at the White Rocks. We understand that 99.99% of our community would never stand for this but it’s sad that the 0.01% make such poor life decisions. ... We have reported all of this damage and rubbish to the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and the NSW Environment Protection Authority. Edit: we have spoken to Ngambri Lalc who own the land and we share their concerns for what has occurred on this property. They have advised us that they have every intention of cleaning the rubbish, which they shouldn’t have to but this won’t occur until the land is secure from vehicles as they are concerned illegal dumping will continue to occur. This land has significant cultural ties to our local First Nations people and this damage and rubbish is very troubling. We will be offering whatever support we can to them as we share their love for this community and our local lands.

16.01.2022 Well that was a little exciting Queanbeyan! Given the large volume of rain we just had we have seen some flash flooding in parts of the area. This water will subside rather quickly but please avoid it. If you require emergency assistance as a result of the storm please call 132 500.

15.01.2022 TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL For people in Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of Hunter, Illawarra, North West Slopes and Plains and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts.... Issued at 12:01 pm Wednesday, 16 December 2020. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY PRODUCE HEAVY RAINFALL Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Orange, Canberra, Goulburn, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Narrabri, Walgett, Dubbo and Parkes. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 3:05 pm.

15.01.2022 Trigger warning Globally, on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day. This is a troubling trend and one we need to shine light on and work to remove the stigma of seeking help. This cause has driven our Operations Officer Brent Hunter to partake in Movember Australia’s campaign this year. Whilst we are volunteers, we experience things the community don’t normally, including tragedy. I don’t think some people realise we attend deaths, car accidents an...d assist to search for people in crisis Brent said. Brent also works for an emergency service and often deals with people having their worst days. My professional career opened my eyes to just how prevalent these issues are in the community he continued. You can donate by heading to https://movember.com/m/brent2620?mc=1 Every dollar helps and goes towards men’s health. To speak with someone immediately, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467. If you're ever worried that someone's life is in immediate danger, call 000 or go directly to emergency services.

15.01.2022 A little bit before our time this flood, however recovery has always been a crucial part of emergency management. A big part of the recovery process is repairs to critical infrastructure. In 1925 the railway would have been the lifeline of the region delivering goods and passengers. Check out repairs to the Queanbeyan Railway bridge following the flood of 1925

13.01.2022 A blast from the past! Our old Troop Carrier vehicle with an even older Riverside Plaza.

12.01.2022 We are extremely grateful to be included in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Councils Reconciliation Walk this morning. It’s extremely important that we recognise the traditional owners of the land and pay respect to their culture and people.

09.01.2022 With the warmer weather and more traffic on the roads do you know what to do when you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle? When you hear a siren or see the flashing blue or red lights of an approaching emergency vehicle: Give way to the emergency vehicle if you are stopped do not move until it is safe to proceed, even if the traffic light is green. Move out of the way as soon as you can safely do so Move over as much as you can to the left-hand side of the road or, if possible, move onto the road shoulder or breakdown lane. 06.01.2022 Quite the busy day. First we responded to reports of a large tree down on the Jerrabomberra Community centre with persons inside. On arrival we located a large gum tree that had fallen. Luckily no one was hurt. Our team worked through the day to clear the tree before handing the site back to council. We also attended two other trees down and one roof job.

05.01.2022 Our members responded to reports of ‘branch down’ in Moore Street this afternoon. On arrival we actually found a large tree had fallen causing some damage to the residence. Essential Energy attended and removed the power supply to the house so the tree could be safely removed.

05.01.2022 Yesterday four of our volunteers were honoured for their work in the community. Deputy Premier John Barilaro presented Unit Commander Zakia Patel, Logistics Officer Glen Jorgensen and members Andrew Daniels and Janice Stevens with their medallions at the Roos Club. These awards symbolise their amazing efforts in keeping our community safe. We are proud of all of them.

04.01.2022 For 12-years it’s been a big part of our family. But the time has come for QBN 56 to be retired from service and replaced with a fit for purpose vehicle. QBN 56 came to us from the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council when they used to supply our vehicles before we moved to a central fleet. This car has travelled the state, attended dozens of rescues and been to countless Queanbeyan homes assisting in response to storms and floods. It will be missed but our operational capability is about to be significantly increased with the new vehicle due to arrive Monday.

04.01.2022 A message of thanks to the many SES volunteers from our NSW SES Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners. Wear a splash of orange today to show your support as we say #ThankYouSES https://bit.ly/2SFxadc

03.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. Many young men left the quiet comfort of Australia to defend the freedoms of so many across the world. Saying no to injustice. They fought in trenches, the fought in streets and fields. Many didn’t return, all for the sake of those they left behind. At 11am on the 11th of November 1918, the guns went silent, so many were changed forever. We remember them today and our current servicemen and women.

03.01.2022 2020 may have been a garbage fire for the most part. But in a way it brought us closer together and really put life into perspective for many. Plenty have been doing it tough this year. Not a single person is unaffected by this years events be it fire, floods or pandemic. Here’s to a new year, new beginnings and hopefully a year were normality is restored. ... Be kind and be safe.
