25.01.2022 Last year we ran a Buy Nothing Christmas Gift shop and over 250 attended. The exciting news is that this year it's back. We are booked in for the 12th of Decem...ber at the Uniting Church Hall on Rutledge street. At the moment we're in the collecting stage. We are looking for donations of gift-quality items. Items can be anything that someone might like to receive as a gift. Last year we had lots of toys, plus gifts for other family members too! Items need to be clean, in good repair (nothing broken, stained, needing to be fixed) and worth gifting. Does anyone feel like doing a pre-Christmas clean out? Currently we have nowhere near enough donations to run the event again so we really need to gather together some more in the coming weeks. Please comment if you can donate and one of our volunteers will be in touch.

24.01.2022 Christmas Greetings from QUC

24.01.2022 Tonight on Hold That Thought @ Home Rev. Richard Harris, Minister at Terrigal Uniting Church encourages us to switch the autopilot off and start living life wit...h intention. Do you just go through the motions? What has the pandemic taught us about ourselves? Sometimes we need to stop and think about what we believe and why we believe it. #holdthatau #faithandlife

22.01.2022 In the event of rain, we will meet at 10am at the Central Bean Cafe on Monaro street. It has a great play corner for kids with a dollhouse, mini kitchen, car and train tracks. Otherwise, see you at the park for some fun in the springtime sunshine!

21.01.2022 It is good to reflect on who we are as a church, on where we have come from, and where God is leading us into the future.

21.01.2022 Today, let us pray together to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. #orangetheworld #prayerisaction

21.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020, "Always Was, Always Will Be", recognises that First Nations Peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. Starting... TODAY, NAIDOC Week 2020 invites all Australians to see, hear and learn about the 65,000+ year history of this country. We are reminded that this country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming, First Nations Peoples transformed the harshest continent into a land of bounty. 20.01.2022 We have watched in horror and a sense of despair, as the comprehensive disaster in Beirut is revealed to the world. All of us have friends from Lebanon, many of... us have family from there. This disaster must seem almost insurmountable after all the challenges this country faced in the last four decades and beyond. I have been talking with Rev’s Gaby Kobrossi (Bankstown) and Krikor Youmshajekian (St. Andrew’s Longueville), who have lived, worked and ministered in Beirut. The church and school communities which they built and in which they worked are profoundly affected by the explosions. The rebuilding simply finding enough glass for all the windows alone will take years, but the restoration of lives and communities will be longer, more challenging task. What we can we do? Praying is absolutely vital: for those affected, for the families of those wounded and killed; for the leaders of the nation, now that the government has resigned and there is ongoing political unrest; for international aid, that it be generous, swift and wise in its distribution for the many communities in Beirut, who make their home there for the ministry of the churches in Lebanon, witnessing to Christ’s justice, healing and hope if you are able to make an emergency donation, we believe the most direct way to send the money is through the Bankstown Congregation, where Gaby is in placement. This will be given directly to the Reformed and Evangelical church and school communities linked with Gaby and Krikor. You can make direct deposit to the Bankstown District Uniting Church bank account with Beirut Appeal as a reference. The Bank details are: BSB No: 882000 Acc. No: 100136727 Gaby has written a prayer for this Sunday, and every other day. Please continue to pray, to remember and to act. Yours in Christ Jesus.

20.01.2022 This Sunday morning, we invite you to join us for worship. At the moment, we cannot meet in the same place, but we can meet at the same time. We may not be sharing a room, but we share a common faith. Some of us are worried, isolated, sad, but for this morning, let us reach for hope, unity and joy.... Please commit the time slot of 9:30am to 10:00am to meeting with God. Meet together in time, if not in place. Put aside the activities of the day, the undone work around you, the thoughts and worries that bounce around your brain. Know that as we enter the strangeness of worshipping together and apart at the same time - we do so as one body. Make space for yourself to listen and respond. You may like to read a reflection out loud with those in your house and share your thoughts. You may like to sit quietly in your garden. You may light a candle. You may play a song that makes you feel connected to God. Perhaps you would prefer to simply close your eyes and acknowledge God’s presence with you. Allow yourself to remain in that space a while. Allow yourself to think the thoughts that lurk beneath the surface. Allow yourself to become bored for a short while. Allow yourself to let go and be in the presence of God. Whatever it is you need to do, this first home-bound Sunday; May the peace of God grow in you. May you be blessed and refreshed by the strangeness of quiet. May you know that although you may be away from social interaction, you are far from alone. In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

13.01.2022 A nice story about HOME.

13.01.2022 Looks like we are in for a clear day. Looking forward to gathering with our community this morning.

12.01.2022 Following guidance from the NSW/ACT Uniting Church Synod, Church Council has taken the decision to stop holding live services at QUC. This will be effective immediately. We will follow the advice of Synod with regards to when we may re-open for live services. We are sorry to be losing this opportunity to be meeting and worshipping in person. However, we know you will understand that this decision is taken in the context of increasing instances of community transmission of coronavirus in Sydney (and now, Newcastle) and our desire to keep everyone as safe and well as possible. In your prayers, please include those in our church family who are working to keep us all safe, as well as those communities around our region and the country more broadly who are being more closely impacted by the spread of coronavirus than us.

12.01.2022 A Stations of the Cross painting exhibition, made available on Youtube has been shared among the ministers in our Presbytery. There are 15 videos in total and range between 1 minutes to 10 minutes. We will be posting the videos over the coming days for a short reflection time as most of us remain indoors due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.... Questions for reflection: - What resonated for me with this artwork? - What disturbed me about this artwork? - What questions were raised by this artwork? Please take a short time out of your day to engage with these artworks and think deeply as we approach the Easter season. https://www.youtube.com/watch

12.01.2022 Tonight on Hold That Thought @ Home, Rev. Christine Palmer says that as God calls us to be His hands and His feet, how might we reach out to others who may be facing loneliness at this time? #holdthatau #seasonsoflife #faithandlife

11.01.2022 St Benedict's is still providing meals (takeaway) to vulnerable people in Queanbeyan most days of the week. They are also providing emergency food to some of the most vulnerable in Queanbeyan. Are you in a position to help? You can drop off non perishable food items at their office. Even more useful are gift cards for Woolies, Coles and petrol. Gift cards give people the dignity of choosing their own items. Even a $10 card is a great offering. If you are able to give more you might consider multiple $20 vouchers so Bennies can allocate them either to more people or give larger households more vouchers. Please drop any vouchers or donations to Bennie's on Crawford St in Queanbeyan.

10.01.2022 This week on Hold That Thought @ Home Rev. Jon Humphries, Chaplain at Ravenswood School for Girls asks How are you coping during COVID-19? Many are going thro...ugh the constant uncertainty but Jon says, In times like this it’s hard to get perspective, but it’s good to remember we are people of faith. #holdthatau #copingwithcovid19 #faithandlife

10.01.2022 A powerful and prayerful reflection on this the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook landing at Botany Bay. Worth taking some time out today to prayerfully reflect on her gracious words.

10.01.2022 This is worth reflecting on, particularly in this time we aren't able to physically gather together.

09.01.2022 We are deeply saddened to bring you the news that the Rev. Kerry Bartlett passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday. Kerry has been a good friend to QUC this year. His support of Amy, his wise counsel and his willingness to preach and lead services for us has been immeasurably helpful. We appreciated the care and thought he put into preparing each service, his concern that his printed sermons would reach everyone who was not able to attend live or via Zoom, as well as his gentle stoicism whenever our technology failed him. Kerry will be missed by many, both in Queanbeyan, and across the wider church.

09.01.2022 The church council of Queanbeyan Uniting Church has been advised by our Synod and our Presbytery that at this time - it is recommended that all services of worship and activity groups of our church are cancelled. Church council has decided to comply with this recommendation and - regrettably - has cancelled all worship services and activities of our congregation. Briefly, this means; - there will no worship service at our Rutledge St building this Sunday morning... - the Jumble and Shed have been cancelled until further notice - activities that involve groups meeting together have been cancelled In the coming weeks, we will continue to offer support and resources to people within the community via e-mail, social media, our website, and a variety of other means of connection. Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions. Please call one another, check in online, follow public health advice and watch this space for connection and content. God calls us to community, even when we are not meeting in person.

08.01.2022 This is a topic that can be difficult to navigate both in our personal lives and in the church. This is worth reflecting on.

07.01.2022 Some words of encouragement as the world turns upside down.

07.01.2022 Mini Music Playgroup is back on again each Monday Morning and it is now held in the Uniting Church Hall which is on Rutledge Street. Mini Music is a friendly and inclusive playgroup for children aged 5 years and under and their caregivers. We meet every Monday from 9.30am-11.00am. Our program involves lots of free play, some stories and songs and some craft or another fine motor activity for the older kids. We have a cosy and quiet room set aside for a babies retreat, and ...as the weather warms up we'll be adding outside play in the sandpit and community garden. The current COVID-19 safety plans have some restrictions on singing, however we are still having music and storytime, but using pre-recorded music for the moment. We look forward to getting through this time and getting back to a more interactive music program in time. So if you're looking for a friendly and welcoming group, come along on Monday mornings from 9.30am-11.00am at the Uniting Church Hall on Rutledge street. Every one is welcome.

07.01.2022 WE'RE BACK TO MEETING AGAIN! Have you knowingly been in close contact with someone who has been infected with COVID-19 in the last 14 days? In addition, you must Have attendance details, including time of arrival and departure, recorded. These will be kept securely for 28 days and then destroyed. Notices explaining these requirements are posted around the church. We are also restricted to 50 people, so please register using the form on our website: https://queanbeyan.unitingchurch.org.au.

05.01.2022 Tonight Dr Armen Gakavian, founder of Neighbourhood Matters, talks to us about why neighbourhoods matter and how we should be supporting each other.. Dr Gakavia...n points out that during this time we have the old vulnerabilities and the new ones, both coming to the fore at this time - some are hidden and some are visible" #holodthatau #neighbourhoodsmatter #faithandlife

05.01.2022 Good to reflect on as we head into 2021 and think about the road ahead for QUC. A good time to give thought to what we want to keep doing and what we want to let go of.

04.01.2022 One of our neighbour churches, Gungahlin Uniting have put together a helpful list of podcasts for faith formation. Podcasts are an excellent way to learn and engage with a wide variety of ideas and ways of thinking about church, life and the Bible. http://www.gungahlinuniting.org/

04.01.2022 A useful resource for those with small children..

03.01.2022 Congratulations HOME in Queanbeyan. We are proud to be connected and privileged to have you as part of our community.

02.01.2022 Tonight, take a moment to read this calming prayer by Brian McLaren, titled, 'For Your Quarantine Safety': Spirit of Wisdom, Truth, and Peace, guide us throug...h this difficult time, and help us to resist the temptation to dream nostalgically of the old normal we have lost. Instead, help us lean forward toward a new normal, a wiser and better way of life that is more in harmony with your love for all people and for all creation. Help us better understand and value our interconnectedness on this beautiful, fragile planet. Empower all who serve the common good, encourage all who suffer, and expose all who mislead, whether through ignorance, greed, fear, or malice. Give birth to a new generation of moral leaders around the world, moral leaders who are guided by a just vision for the future rather than limited habits of the past in our families and faith communities, in our cities and states and nations, and around this interconnected world, for the good of all. #AllOfThisIsUs #StaySafe #StayConnected

02.01.2022 Simon was a QUC minister in the early 2000’s.

02.01.2022 Save the date. Mini Music playgroup will start up again on Wednesday the 3rd of February 2021.

02.01.2022 Make your own friends! Here's a fun crafty idea for isolated kids.

01.01.2022 Holy Week e-mail has just been released and will be in our members' inboxes shortly. The window for worship for the next few days is some time between 7pm and 8:30pm. We hope you are able to set aside a short pause during this 90 minute window to join with us in a reflective time together, and apart. The passage for Holy Week Monday is John 12:1-11.

01.01.2022 Worth reflecting on at this time of turmoil and uncertainty.
