15.01.2022 It is my experience that many "leaders" in our community have used this case as a "look at what we do for CSA" and try to deflect the attention from their own communities and what is going on in them. I have had over 200 members of our Jewish community identify to me as survivors of CSA. The majority of them are not from institutional abuse. The guidelines and procedures do not help them. (Not saying they are not needed in institutions, they are.] What I am saying is that we ...need to be open to discussion of abuse and be able to talk about it with out fear of rejection. The vast majority of them have said that I was the first person they had ever told of their abuse. I asked why and the answer was that they felt I would believe them. The first step is to accept that this is a huge problem in our community. Second start to talk about it in personal terms rather than as an intellectual exercise. There will be no change unless the community wants change. The status quo has been maintained since the Royal Commission departed the front pages of the papers. Be part of the change, be a person who is safe to talk to. If some one trusts you to the level that they share with you their abuse what should you do? BELIEVE THEM.* Be part of the change, be a person who is safe to talk to. Ari's basic guidelines are: Believe, accept, ask what support you can give, and hugely, confidentiality. Listen with out interrupting and don't give advise gratuitously. Sending acceptance to all survivors. https://lens.monash.edu//addressing-child-sexual-abuse-ins
