25.01.2022 The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a SEVERE Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL for people in Central and parts of East Gippsland, Mallee, South West, Nor...thern Country, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts. A very humid and unstable airstream across the State with a slow moving low pressure trough in the west. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Bendigo, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne and Bacchus Marsh. Issued at 12:53 pm Friday, 14 February 2020. The next warning is due to be issued by 3:55 pm. Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads. * Check that loose items such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured and move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines always assume they are live. * Stay informed monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/ and warnings through VicEmergency http://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/.

25.01.2022 Taking steps to get prepared before the fire season means you know what to do when you’re at risk of fire. Just as every family or household is unique, every fi...re plan will be different. The information and templates in the Fire Ready Kit and on this website, are designed to assist you. 1. Which Fire Danger Rating is your trigger to leave? 2. Will you leave early that morning or the night before? 3. Where will you go? 4. What route will you take and what is your alternative in the event that a fire is already in the area? 5. What will you take with you? 6. What do you need to organise for your pets or livestock? 7. Who do you need to keep informed of your movements? 8. Is there anyone outside your household who you need to help or check up on? 9. How will you stay informed about warnings and updates? 10. What will you do if there is a fire in the area and you cannot leave? Remember to decide who will do what as part of your plan.. More Info | www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/your-bushfire-plan

22.01.2022 The Royal Australian Mint has today launched a commemorative coloured $2 coin to honour those who battled the horrific 2019/20 summer bushfires. The $2 coin wil...l feature a blaze of orange in the centre, with female and male fireys either side of it, looking ready for action. The Royal Australian Mint created the $2 coin to recognise the determination and commitment of our firefighting communities across Australia in battling the terrible conditions that confronted them. The Mint also announced $125,000 of the proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to fire and emergency service organisations across the country, including CFA. CFA’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Catherine Greaves said CFA is extremely grateful to the Mint for recognising the incredibly important work our members do in protecting lives and property. This coin will reach communities across the country and will highlight the risk our members take each and every day to keep Victorian communities safe, CEO Greaves said. CFA Acting Chief Officer Garry Cook said the Mint’s generous monetary contribution will go towards purchasing and maintaining brigade firefighting equipment. We are always very grateful for any financial contributions made to CFA it allows us to boost our critical firefighting equipment which further increases our ability to protect our community, CO Cook said. The new $2 coin has been made available to the banks for circulation across Australia. A version of the coin will be made available in a packaging card for coin collectors. The Mint will also be hosting a small exhibition over the summer months in Canberra to honour Australian firefighters. There will be a collection of notable objects on display, including these commemorative $2 coins, as well as a number of other medals and coins made by the Mint over the years to honour firefighters. CFA is encouraging its members and the community to try and purchase one of these commemorative firefighter coins as a special memento to hold onto. The timing of the release of the coin is a great reminder to those living in bushfire prone areas to prepare themselves and their properties for the upcoming fire season.

21.01.2022 As we continue to battle the current fire emergency we reflect on the events of this time eleven years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. Then, just as now, the land will heal itself and new life will emerge, but we will never forget those we have lost.

21.01.2022 Do you or someone you love use electric blankets? Last Monday 29th June, a 74 year old lady is lucky to still be alive. Fortunately rescued just in time by a ...neighbour when he heard the screams and is recovering in hospital. The house albeit destroyed and uninsured can be replaced. Lives Can Not Be! PLEASE follow these tips and check your electric blanket for faults TODAY. At the first sign of wear, replace the blanket or have it checked by a qualified electrician Keep the blanket flat on the bed and ensure controls and cords are not twisted or caught between the bed and mattress Don't place heavy objects on the bed while the blanket is on. Never sleep with your blanket on, even on low. Don't leave your blanket on during the day

20.01.2022 With the cooler weather here and more people using dryers, it is a timely reminder that we use our dryers safely. See below an incident that occurred over the ...weekend in Bangholme. Local CFA firefighters have issued a warning about the potential dangers of laundry fires following a fire that was started by a clothes dryer in Bangholme on Sunday, 2 May. Two CFA crew from Carrum Downs responded to the incident just after 7.30pm and were supported by firefighters from Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). Carrum Downs Captain Terry Larkin said crews on scene did a fantastic job of containing the fire to the laundry area of the small lodge property. The occupant safely self-evacuated before crews had arrived, he said. Thankfully, they shut the door of the laundry room, which assisted crews in containing the fire to the one room, making it more difficult for the fire to travel through rest of the house. Crews extinguished the fire and safely removed the damaged clothes dryer outside the house. Crews deemed the incident under control at 7.52pm and the incident was declared safe after 8.20pm. This is a timely reminder for Victorians to ensure their laundry areas are fire safe. It is important to maintain laundry electrical appliances and store chemicals safely to prevent fires, burns and chemical accidents. Laundry safety tips: + Keep electrical appliances and cords away from water. + Always let the clothes dryer complete its cool down cycle before stopping. + Clean the lint filter after each use. + Don’t use a clothes dryer without a lint filter or with a lint filter that is loose or damaged. + Clean the back of the dryer regularly to prevent a build-up of lint. + Turn your clothes dryer off when you are not home or sleeping. + Make sure that the clothes dryer has adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. For more information on home fire safety, visit the CFA website at cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home and for more laundry safety tips, read the CFA laundry safety guidelines.

16.01.2022 Santa will be doing his Christmas Morning run on the back of the fire truck this year. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions he won't be getting of the truck at most locations. The fire trucks will stop where safe to do so. We ask parents to please keep kids at a safe distance from the vehicles at all times. Brigade members will set up a barricade at the Pt Lonsdale road stop where Santa will be able get off and talk to the kids.

14.01.2022 Unfortunately the Queenscliff Fire Brigade won’t be on-site this year to provide our fantastic supporters with a sausage or burger but at least the lights will still go on. We look forward to seeing everyone next year bigger, better and stronger. Thank you all for your continuing support. From your dedicated volunteers at QFB.

13.01.2022 We need your help to share People are putting themselves and others at risk by entering the fire ground to take photos. The Wade Junction fire that started on J...anuary 3 quickly turned into an 886 hectare fire that burnt through pine plantations and crossed the Portland Nelson Road. Crews worked through the night to quickly bring the fire under control and all roads are now open again. Although the fire is not visible from the surface, there are still stumps burning underground up to 1 metre deep and up to 300 degrees Celsius. Burnt trees are also at risk of falling at any time without notice. People are advised not to enter the burnt area for their own safety. Tag a friend who needs to know! See more

12.01.2022 Its Spring now it’s time to prepare your property for the fire danger period Landowners and tenants should be preparing their properties well before the start... of the Fire Danger Period. A lot of things can be done in the garden and around the home to improve the chances of surviving the impact of a bushfire or fast moving grassfire. Now is the time to clean up leaves, twigs, bark and long grass around the home and farm properties as fires cannot be lit in the open air during the Fire Danger Period without a written permit from CFA or a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer. During the pre- Fire Danger Period clean up, if you plan to burn those piles of fallen branches, bark and leaves, call the VicFire Burn-off notification line on 1800 668 511 to avoid an unnecessary fire brigade callout. Once the Fire Danger Period has been declared in your municipality by CFA, lighting a fire in the open without a permit can attract a penalty of $17,000 and 12 months imprisonment. There are even greater restrictions for Total Fire Ban days due to the greater risk of fire. To view or download the Can I or Can’t I brochure, go to the CFA website www.cfa.vic.gov.au or call 1800 226 226 See more
