01.01.2022 Vale Gil Albutt Thoughts are with the family of Gil Allbutt, who passed away on Wednesday, aged 88. Gil will hold a special place in Queenscliffs history as on...e of the towns original boat builders. He commenced his trade under Peter Locke in 1948 and almost a decade later launched Gilcraft boats, in a garage behind the Vue Grand Hotel. He designed more than 200 boats during his professional life, several of which are still in use today. He was an active volunteer and member of many local groups. Gil was a founding member of the Queenscliff Maritime Museum, performed at the early Queenscliff Music Festivals and was a long-term member of the Lighthouse Theatre Group. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the Maritime Museum in Queenscliff on Thursday 7th November at 11:30 am. See more
