24.01.2022 In a year unlike no other, we hope that many of our members and supporters who purchased our Sons of the Sea calendar late last year have still been getting a chuckle out of each month’s photo! Yet our ambition was always clear: to raise money and awareness for mental health. Recently, on the final weekend of junior sport, QFNC president Rowan Martin and Senior Football Captain Jake Hedley were able to present a cheque for $3,333 to @readtheplayinc as part of @aflbarwon’s Read the Play Round. A further $3,333 will also be donated to @beyondblueofficial as part of a 50-50 split of profits between these two important organisations. Thanks to everyone who purchased a calendar and we look forward to being back at the Couta Bowl in 2021 #CoutaCountry #AFLBarwon

16.01.2022 MESSAGE FROM THE PREZ: A closing statement from QFNC President Rowan Martin as the sun sets prematurely on the 2020 season at all levels of competition. Hello everyone,...Continue reading

16.01.2022 AFL Barwon today announced the results of their junior age group review, which will see the following changes implemented from 2022 click through for more information.

15.01.2022 VALE ARNIE BENCH The QFNC extends our deepest condolences to the Bench family on the passing of Arnie this weekend. He was a true stalwart of our club and contributed in so many ways. Arnie was a brilliant footballer who played with Fitzroy before moving to the country as a playing coach with Warracknabeal in the Wimmera. Finally arriving in Queenscliff he was a member of the glory days when Queenscliff won 7 premierships in the 1960's. Wearing the number 9, Arnie was a d...ominant force in that era and was duly recognised in the Coutas Team of the Century. Following his playing career he coached for the club and held numerous administrative roles in the club including President in the early 1970's. He is a Life Member of our club, a Life Member of the Bellarine Football League and was also the very first Life Member of the Queenscliff Community Sports Club. Arnie and his wife Marg (deceased) are regarded as true legends of our football club for their contributions both on and off the field. Our club is so much richer for all that Arnie did for our club and we will miss seeing him on a Saturday afternoon cheering on his beloved Coutas. The club is in contact with the Bench family and will advise if an opportunity is available for supporters to pay their respects. Go Coutas.

15.01.2022 QFNC JUNIOR COACHES WANTED Under 19s QFNC is searching for a dedicated football coach who is up to date with current coaching practices to coach our talented group of Under 19s.... The successful applicant must possess: a current AFL coaching accreditation knowledge of contemporary coaching and training practices a sound knowledge of the current game the ability to communicate effectively with players, committee, senior coaches and other coaching staff a love of the game of Australian Football a desire to assist players to improve their understanding and skills of the game Junior Teams As per our new club policy, coaching positions for all junior teams will be advertised each season. Coaching applicants will progress to an interview process in the event that there is more than one applicant for the position. Coaching appointments will then be made by the QFNC Football Director, Junior Coordinator and Committee members, based on the application and presentation of the applicants. QFNC will be looking for coaches to fill the roles for the following age groups in season 2021: Boys/mixed in U/17, U/15, U/13, U/11 & Under 9/10. At this stage, given the low numbers of girls in the area interested in playing footy, QFNC will not field an outright girls team, but girls are able to play in the boys teams up to U/13s. If there is enough interest, this decision will be reviewed. The girls competitions are at U/12, U/15 and U/18 age groups. Anyone interested in any of these positions would be required to have a current AFL coaching accreditation (Level 1 minimum) and hold a current Working with Children Check. If you don’t have accreditation, this can be arranged prior to the beginning of the season. Those interested please contact Pete Caddy (Football Director) via email [email protected] or call 0432 010 608 by Monday 14th December, 2020.

12.01.2022 Tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) our club legend Arnie Bench will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Point Lonsdale cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our club is unable to hold a traditional gathering and farewell at the oval. We understand people may wish to show their respects, so an alternate suggestion is that people position themselves along the roadway wearing their Couta colours and farewell Arnie as the hearse passes by, whilst observing road safety and social distancing at all times. The hearse will travel from the oval to the cemetery along Bellarine Highway and Point Lonsdale Road arriving at the cemetery at approximately 12:45pm (NEW TIME)

10.01.2022 Last night the QFNC committee met and confirmed the reappointment of Steve Clark as Senior Football Coach and Kent Hannam as the Reserves Coach. Steve has been instrumental in rebuilding our senior football squad and developing a strong team culture that exhibits our club values. Steve's reappointment reflects the confidence our club has in his ability to deliver success on the field but also acknowledges the positive influence that he has on the development of our junior f...ootballers as well. The club is also delighted to announce that Kent Hannam was also confirmed by our committee as our Reserves coach. Kent has been a pillar of strength for our club during the turbulence of the disrupted 2020 season and his reappointment reflects the club's confidence in Kent to further develop our senior group in support of Steve. QFNC congratulates both Steve and Kent on their re-appointments and acknowledges the support of their families, especially their respective wives Shelley and Cindy, to enable them to make this commitment. 09.01.2022 The Queenscliff Football Netball Club would like to pass on its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Terry (Joe) Weston, who passed away on Boxing Day this year, aged 74. Terry was a life member of the Club and was president from 19861987. His decorated playing career spanned two decades in the red, white and blue. Wearing the #14 guernsey, Terry started in the senior side as a half-back flanker before moving to full-back, noted as a reliable defender with boomin...g kick-ins and strong marking prowess. Described as a "dedicated trainer" who was "easy to coach and well respected by his team mates", Terry played in three senior premierships: 1967, 1968 and 1975, across a total of 213 senior games before rounding out his remarkable career as reserves captain from 19831986, the final year at age 40. Terry will be remembered at a private cremation this week. May he rest in peace.

08.01.2022 Hello everyone, We have just been advised this afternoon by AFL Barwon that the Under-19 Football and Netball competitions have been cancelled for 2020. The reason for this decision is explained in the memo linked below. Understandably, this will be very disappointing news for this age group who have had excellent numbers attend training and displayed such a positive atmosphere amongst the playing group. Our club has always acknowledged the benefits of mateship and teamwork... that comes from playing sport with your friends, and therefore, as the club has done with the senior playing group, we will also support our U19s if they wish to continue with some form of organised training to stay connected with each other. The club also thanks and expresses our appreciation to Luke Orvis, Gary Tucci, Hannah Stephens, Jess Anderson and Louise McVilly for volunteering to coach and manage our U19 teams this year. Rowan Martin President
