24.01.2022 Combining creativity and community, our student Creative Arts Committee has been coordinating a community mural art project throughout this year. They hosted a mural design competition with our students voting on the winning entry by Beth Moody (2nd Year Arts). Everyone then pitched in to help paint Beth’s design onto the walls in the Student Labs. It’s been slow going with social distancing being enforced and only a couple of people allowed in the room at any time (note: the video was filmed prior to stage 4 restrictions), but it’s been a wonderful project that has involved so many people at Queen’s. Now that it’s nearing completion, we’d thought we’d give you a sneak peak. #QueensCollege #QueensCollegeAU #ThisIsQueens #UniMelb

09.01.2022 The 2020 Sugden Oration was held as an online conversation between our Sugden Fellow, Dr Martin Parkinson AC PSM, Chancellor of Macquarie University and (amongst many notable roles), former Secretary to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, former Secretary to the Australian Treasury and inaugural Secretary to the Department of Climate Change, and Wyvern Dan Ziffer who covers Melbourne-based business issues for ABC News on television, radio and online. Eminently q...ualified by education and experience to address the difficult issues facing the economy, climate change and higher education, Dr Parkinson shared his insight across a number of topics. The wide-ranging conversation included how we might deal with issues of the global community in the era of low levels of trust in government and national self-interest, discussion on the government response to the pandemic, how traditional economic stimuli have omitted the group most affected by the economic downturn namely women, how to educate politicians towards evidence-based reasoning rather than opinion, the part to be played by advanced manufacturing in forward-thinking economic recovery, advice on First Nations recognition, and the role to be played by state governments. The Sugden Fellowship is run by Queen’s College Sugden Institute, founded earlier this year to provide a forum for the college community to engage in public discourse around the grand challenges of our time.
