10.01.2022 The Baaka Curation project is about to get underway. It will be coordinated by Wilcannia local Warlpa Thompson. The project will progress the internal content of Baaka Cultural Centre developing the themes and story lines that will be presented both in the keeping place and the visitor displays. Over coming weeks Warlpa and Sarah Dixon will be visiting Wilcannia to commence this important project. They will chat to the Community about what they would like to see in the disp...lays and exhibitions within the Baaka Cultural Centre. The project will ensure that the cultural centre represents Baakantji culture and achieves its purpose as a keeping place for physical artefacts, intangible memories, the performance and recording of story and song, painting, language and the knowledge of Country embedded in tradition. In addition, Warlpa and Sarah will encourage the entire Wilcannia community to get involved in fostering a rich cultural and authentic collection and exhibition that reflects their values. Speaking with the Wilcannia Community will ensure the project is led by the community through hearing stories, analysing and exploring artefacts, images and cultural items that will bring the cultural centre to life. It will capture the use of traditional language and deliver the themes to bring the local storytelling to the heart of the Centre. We are delighted to welcome Walpa and Sarah. Many artefacts are currently in storage and private collections and they will see to it we preserve and showcase Baakantji culture for the community and future generations. said Bob Constantine. We urge everyone to get involved and share their ideas and knowledge to make this fabulous project for Wilcannia a huge success. he added.
