23.01.2022 Brisbane suburb becomes focus of council pool safety crackdown CARINDALE has been the focus of a Brisbane City Council crackdown on pool safety in the last year..., with 115 inspections taking place across the suburb. Council has undertaken pool inspections across Brisbane since new State Government pool safety regulations came into place in December 2015. Of 242 in Brisbanes southeast suburbs last year, nearly 48 per cent were in Carindale. A council spokesman said the high emphasis on Carindale was influenced by the suburbs high proportion of pools and community correspondence. Inspections are conducted proactively and in response to complaints, he said. Several properties with pools required more than one inspection to achieve compliance. Brisbane Lifestyle and Community Services chairman Matthew Bourke said council had done more than 2000 pool inspections since updated regulations came into place. Compliance ... is a matter of safety, particularly for young children, he said. For serious regulation breaches that impact on safety, council will issue an enforcement notice. More than 40 per cent of pool owners in Brisbanes southside fail to regularly inspect the safety of their pool area, according to results found by the Poolwerx healthy pools survey. The survey also revealed 53 per cent of parents with children under five were not confident their child could get themselves out of a pool if they fell in.
